Apparently, liberals think it’s all a big Catholic plot.

Wow. I’m a bit surprised to say the least. I didn’t realize that anti-Catholic paranoia and bigotry was that widespread in South Dakota.

If you recall the comments from Thune challenger Kurt Evans last year, which I noted again recently….

It was pretty darned offensive. But, unfortunately, that kind of ill will & bigotry seems contagious. As noted today on the local bastion of liberalism, Dakota Free Press by it’s author Cory Heidelberger:

….and since he’s a fellow conservative Catholic, Powers gives him softball press.

Read that trash here.

“…since he’s a fellow conservative Catholic..”   I’m not sure what a shared religion has anything to do with anything, but it’s pretty telling how liberals in South Dakota have a tendency to divide people up.  I doubt anyone would give him a pass if he said something of that nature based on the color of a person’s skin. But introducing one’s creed into it… the liberal left in our state apparently just smiles and nods as if they were all wearing white peaked hats.

But that’s apparently how they roll. And they have no problem or moral qualms about putting it to paper.

  1. His point was mounce has only lived here a few years, but you give him a pass on that bc he is an R.

  2. Anti-Catholicism has strong roots here. The display of the KKK garb at the Cultural Heritage Society noted that KKK presence is South Dakota had as much if not more to do with hating on Catholics than on blacks.. CH allows all sorts of anti-Catholic speech from Larry Krutz to stay posted.

  3. Planning Student,

I saw that display a long time ago and I learned a lot about South Dakota’s less than pristine past. There are three kinds of anti-Catholic bigotry.

    1) Hating from ignorance and inaccurate understanding of what Catholicism teaches. This is most common and is usually overcome with conversation. In most cases, this is the form I first assume when confronted with anti-Catholic bigotry.

    2) Hating because one knows enough about Catholicism and understands how it threatens their world view or deeply held prejudices. This is what drives Kurt Evans and Larry Kurtz. At the end of the day, haters are just going to hate.

    3) Thinking Catholicism is just another ideology with maybe two branches (liberal and conservative). So for many non-Catholics, if one is a liberal, they trot out the Church when it says something that sounds liberal like what many liberals did with the Pope’s most recent encyclical. Conservatives trot out the Church when it talks on things like abortion. This is the mistake Cory made. He is unable to grasp a Catholic like me can love and appreciate the writings and life of Bishop Sheen and Dorothy Day equally. Thus, he insinuates Pat has an affinity for Mounce because he is Catholic.

In short, bigotry against Catholics comes in many forms, some more insidious than others but make no mistake it is still bigotry.

  4. Porter,

I’m conservative and a Catholic but I’m just fine with the Pope because I read more than skin deep and know this Pope isn’t actually departing from Cathloic theology. You seem to be a bandwagon fan of a fictional Pope created by the media… And I think a few studies have shown conservatives are a happier bunch than our liberal brethren. Just as you said, those are only stereotypes, and you know what they say about stereotypes…

  5. Planning Student,

If I believed how the liberal media has described and defined the views of the Pope, I’d not love him as I do. I’m old enough to have lived during the Papacy of Paul VI, John Paul I, John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and now Francis. I have loved them all equally.

  6. They sure are reaching over there on that hate brigade blog. Catholic conspiracy& Catholic cronyism, obsessed that another Catholic Marty Jackley is ready to pounce to bust these stoners and the constant paranoia. They need to quit smoking that ditchweed. It’s the left version of Hubbelmania and of course Evans.

  7. The more one reads Heildelbergers rag and the comments of his sicko compadres, one wonders why any internet provider would allow such bigotry, racism and sexism.

Any idea on how Heildelberger is supporting himself these days; other than through the kindnesses of many Christians provided to his wife?

Just like the gay marriage troopers, it’s time to hold those who support Corey and his rag accountable for the hate that is seeded and that grows there.

  8. “As noted today on the local bastion of liberalism”

Uh no. Madvile Times is a bastion of Nazi-like hate and racial purification.

Don’t paint REAL liberals with the stinking tarred brush of Madville sewage.

      1. Did you read Krazy Larry’s string of invectives for some SD progressive who dared to disagree with Larray’s views on basing SD progressive policies on free pot?

I think he even called her a “fat pig”. And the posts remain.
