Apparently only “powerful” women need attend Sutton event. Sponsored in part by former Hillary Clinton spokesperson

I was just e-mailed this invitation via a friend of a friend which was sent out by a group calling themselves “a Gathering of Powerful Women” for Billie Sutton.

It might be just me.. but does that invitation come off as a bit “elitist?”

Well, when you’re a West River Democrat trying to collect checks from Sioux Falls, I guess that’s the way you have to be.

I would contrast that with the fact that every once in a while I run into Kristi or her husband at HyVee in Brookings.  Of course, HyVee is very much “non-elitist,” despite the fact that there’s a helpful smile in every aisle, and you most certainly don’t have to be powerful to pick up deli meat or a head of lettuce.

Honestly, I think that’s how most South Dakotans prefer their candidates.

I did notice that the invitation goes a long way to strengthen the point that Republican candidate for Governor Kristi Noem makes about the connection of the Billie Sutton for Governor campaign to Hillary Clinton.

If you look at the sponsor list, notice event co-sponsor Erika Batcheller. Who happens to have an interesting business profile…

Prior to relocating to Sioux Falls, S.D., Erika served as vice president in the Washington, D.C., office of Fleishman-Hillard, a leading global communications firm. She managed public education programs for a wide range of award-winning cause initiatives, including the largest ever Federal media campaign to prevent and reduce illicit drug use among youth.

Before that, Erika served as deputy press secretary and official spokesperson for First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Read that here.

The former official spokesperson for Hillary Rodham Clinton? Of course she’s happy to help sponsor an event for Billie Sutton.

But that’s how the “elite” and “powerful” roll. As they do their best to put Hillary’s main South Dakota supporter Billie Sutton in the Governor’s office.

  1. If anyone here knew Suttons wife.. who is listed on this announcement, this would make total sense. She has done editorials in the hometown Gazette about abortion and womens rights. A liberal feminist who has literally never worked for a living in her entire life. Im sure her and her husband cant wait to rub shoulders with fellow Hillary supporters.

      1. She wrote her first pro-choice letter to the editor when she was a senior in high school, the same week her grandmother wrote a pro-life letter.

          1. Absolutely. She has been pro unrestricted abortion for the 12+ years I’ve known her and was very vocal about it until her and Billie’s political aspirations got in the way.

            1. How people can support unrestricted abortion is so sad. Imagining a baby’s neck being cut with scissors while it’s head is still in the vaginal canal is so disturbing. How do they support that? Just evil.

    1. Kristi better win this race. From what I hear it isn’t going her way right now. I feel nausea just reading this card and the egos they have. I can’t imagine them running government.

    2. Kelsea is employed full time as First Fidelity Bank’s in house attorney. She was previously employed as an attorney in a law firm in Gregory County.

      1. There’s this great song Kylee Zempel wrote about empowered women, I thought of you when I heard it.

  2. Is Billie running for governor or is his wife? Because her name appears above the Lt. Governor candidate’s name on the invitation.

    1. Id say Kelsey Kenzy Sutton is the one running the show on this campaign. And she will call the shots if he gets into office. So vote Red.

  3. Two comments

It is bizarre to put the First Lady candidate above the Lt. Governor candidate. I’d attribute it as a mistake if the organizer didn’t have the experience she has.

It is bizarre it mentions over and over these are powerful women. O.K., we get it. You are drunk with your own power and crave more of it. Just know you sound ill-suited to be given it. You sound despotic.

  4. I wonder what the response would be if this was a powerful man event? BTW I have heard nothing but nice things about Sutton and his wife..

    1. Oldguy-
Billie is nice enough. Always has been. Since he got with Ms. Kenzy however, his moral compass has went all over the place. Kelsy isnt nice. Ask anyone back here that knows her. Shes all about herself. And knows WAY more than all the people. What she tries to get people to believe in the public eye is not who she is. Her reference back here among many is that she is “nasty” woman.

      1. What next? Should we explore the interpersonal dynamics of the of Kristi and Byron Noem? What are they really like up close rather than past voting records and policy proposals?

        1. Shouldnt an informed voter know what a candidates voting record looks like? And who they will be surrounding themselves with once they are elected? If ones spouse is a liberal democrat feminist, i think thats cause for concern. Cause guess who will have the most influence? And go ahead and look at Bryan and Kristi. You should. Stop being an ill informed voter falling for the act.

          1. Enlighten us, what’s the real reason she left Northern State? Come on, we know you want to be libel.

          2. Why should a liberal wife make any difference? She has nothing to do with policy, etc. Why just a couple of decades ago, we had a President who was married to a liberal democrat feminist. That didn’t cause any trouble, did it?

      2. You sound like you had a crush on Billy in high school and Ms. Kenzy stole him from you or something.

          1. Oh Alicia.. no dear. I just dont really care for anyone who supports murder and pretends to be something other than what they are. And yes.. if you actually new the “Sutton” clan, you would also know that Kelsey wears the pants. So yes, it does matter that she is a liberal democrat feminist.

  5. See, Billie boy loves Hillary’s policies. He is aligned with the far left. Don’t let his supposed nice guy act fool you. He is moderate.

    1. So….Your saying Billie would fit right in at Berkeley, CA and fit right in with the ultra liberals and be really excited to throw on a black mask, gear and bang some heads with Antifa?

      1. Crazy videos are posted showing Antifa as traffic cops and threatening an elderly driver.

Billie wouldn’t fit right in with these Antifa thugs, but there are plenty of DSA members (far left) working tirelessly behind the scenes. James O’Keefe has videos of their tactics, Billie may fit right in with them?

When the DNC’s chair says there are no moderate Democrats, I believe him.

        1. Do you even live in South Dakota? Did you ever live in South Dakota? South Dakota is far removed from what you say. Yeah there are a few isolated liberal nutjobs in South Dakota but they are by far a minority & rarely if ever gain any traction or get elected to office. Associating Billie Sutton with what you mentioned is far removed from reality and hyper partisan ship given how close this race is. It is grasping at straws.

          1. Ha!! Associating Billie? Of course he is associated! When you go to Hillary conventions and support her “ideals” as what South Dakota needs is not far removed from reality. Do you want someone who thinks like a Clinton to be governor? Stop being so naive. Thats the problem here in south Dakota. sutton supporters just think we are so far “removed”.. well guess why that is? Cause he keep the liberal nuts voted out. And I dont think this race is close at all. But you know Democrats. They constantly post how close their candidate is then come to find out they couldnt be more wrong.

            1. What next? Billie will turn South Dakota into an Islamic State and help impose Sharia Law?

              1. Well actually if that ever camnup, I can honestly say I dont see him standing against it. He bends to the winds. If thats what the DNC wants him to do he will.

              2. An American Imam said Sharia law should be applied to Christine Ford’s allegations against Kavanaugh.

                1. Kristi’s campaign is in trouble and it’s obvious things are getting desperate in the attacks against our next governor of South Dakota Billie Sutton.

                  1. Clarify “attack”.

Did someone physically hurt Sutton or is it more about your feelings?

                  2. Oh please.. theres no attacks against Billie.. what? A little ad exposing the truth of what Billie supports? And he is doing the same thing to Noem. Her campaign is far from in trouble. Id say Sutton is the one in trouble.

                  1. From what I know about Billy, is that he is very open-minded. I think it would be good to have some checks and balances in Pierre. Think about it…if the situation was reversed and it was all Democrat rule for over 40 years…I would be supporting a R., I, or third party.

                    1. Tara I would also. 40 years of control lead to over confidence, complacency, corruptive unchecked power, cronyism, scandals, lack of competitive atmosphere via gerrymandering where in a competitive environment a number of unqualified legislators would never have been elected.

                  2. Desden, that often happens to Tara. I remember how she was duped into dumping a cleaning product into Lake Mitchell.

                    1. I wasn’t duped. I knew exactly what I was doing. The taxpayers are the ones that are getting duped.

        2. Big difference between east coast, west coast/ mid west democrats. Most Democrats in SD want what everybody else wants…..lower taxes, good paying jobs, family values, less government intrusion and cleaning up corruption.

          1. Like a state income tax? Like unions that takes away advancement based upon ability and installs seniority instead? Family values such as abortion, same-sex marriage single parent homes? Less government intrusion such as forcing schools to allow any sex to enter any bathroom, depending upon what that student thinks he/she is? When I see the corruption in the last Presidential Administration, I am not sure I trust the Democrats with corruption either.

    1. I remember all of the women who were giddy about Kristi running for Congress. They don’t seem as energized or organized as they were 8 years ago when Herseth went down. I will say those women were very inclusive.

Now we have Powerful Women for Sutton. What a total ego trip.

    2. Lots of Republicans are supporting Billie. Some prominent elected GOP officials are telling people they are voting for Billie but not endorsing.

    1. Stay-at-home mothers certainly aren’t powerful enough for these women.

We too have powerful purses, but because we chose to raise our babies and didn’t put our career before family, we’re pushed out. Our voices aren’t good enough.

        1. Tell that to these “powerful” women.

It was disappointing to read what you said about single-mothers, Tara.

  6. Unfortunately for this group they overlook one of the most accomplished and power women in SD….Kristi Noem! Just another partisan front group with no credibility.

  7. Hilary Clinton, who Sutton supports, says…

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about. That’s why I believe, if we are fortunate enough to win back the house and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again.”

    Does Sutton agree?

    1. I’m sure a moderator will ask Sutton that relevant question during the KELO debate Oct. 23 and/or the SD Public Broadcasting debate Oct. 25…unless by chance said moderator is an ardent progressive pro-choice Hillary Rodham Clinton supporter who (unlike the majority of voters) considers Donald J. Trump a terrible president. But what are the odds of that?

      1. I’d be shocked if the moderator asked any hard-ball questions or dug deeper into their stance on the issues. Here’s what I predict…

Moderator: Do you support an income tax?
        Sutton: Well, sort of.
        Moderator: Okay.

    2. Has Billy Sutton been at Hilliary’s side when she made campaign trips to SD. I saw Hilliary and Bill twice, and Obama once at campaign events in SD…..but I didn’t vote for them. I really don’t think he was overly involved with Hilliary. Can you show me some proof?

      1. Tara!! His wife and he have travelled just to attend her “rally”! Please ask anyone back in Burke about that and they will tell you. Its one thing just to go cause it was here and close and to check it out, but they made the effort cause thats who they support! And still do!
Oh and: “I am proud to join my fellow state legislators in endorsing Hillary Clinton for President,” Senate Minority Leader Billie Sutton said. “Secretary Clinton has shown she has the same values as families in rural America. She understands our issues and has been a tireless advocate for our farmers, our ranchers, our veterans, our Native Americans, and all working men and women. As First Lady she brought the importance of pre-k education to the forefront of the nation by piloting literacy programs and fought alongside Senator Tom Daschle to create the first national children’s health insurance program. As U.S. Senator, she worked with Senator Tim Johnson to secure vital investments in renewable energy and bio-fuels, that helped drive the economy of our state. As Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton lead this nation in an increasingly complicated world. Hillary is the most qualified person running for President. I couldn’t be more thrilled to support her campaign.”

  8. Elitist?…as compared to a $500 entry fee and $5k for a photo? You guys are really grasping at straws. Billie is more salt of the earth than Kristi could ever be.

    1. Trump was here for a FUNDRAISER specifically for Kristi because she was integral in a lot of legislation. This was not a rally. He is out working for legislators but because he thought so much of Kristi he did this and maybe a couple other gubernatorial stops only.

    1. It was a fundraiser and there were plenty of people ready and willing to help support her campaign, no one was forced.

      1. The vast amount of South Dakotans do not have $5,000 to attend a private dinner. Many are working multiple jobs. Talk about a disconnect from everyday S. Dakotans. Bought & paid for Kristi Noem bringing DC Swamp and expanding the swamp in Pierre.

        1. Don’t lie, it was $500 to attend & $5000 to meet our President. Again, there was a vast amount of people ready and willing to pay. There’s not a disconnect, stop with your propaganda.

          1. I never said anyone was forced, I’m saying $500 to attend and $5,000 for a picture with the president is exclusive and elitist. It’s not representative of the average South Dakotan. To say that an invitation “looks elitist” while the GOP candidate skirts campaign finance through loopholes where rich friends can rub elbows with Trump is hypocritical.

            1. Fundraiser, it was a fundraiser.

Are you mad at rich people because you’re not rich? I’m not angry we couldn’t donate and attend. Trump will be back, we’ll see him at a rally.

When it comes to politics, you should try to leave your feelings at home.

              1. That’s cute. I’m not upset. I am pointing out that the author of this article attempted to smear Billie as “elitist” which is ironic because of the example listed above. Later…anonymous.

                1. You did a terrible job of making that point. You did much better looking like an ass.

                  Peace…Aaron.

  9. Erika Batcheller worked for HRC two decades ago. More recently than that, before she entered politics, Kristi Noem was a guest at Senator Tom Daschle’s Leader’s Retreat in the Black Hills. Using your logic I guess Kristi’s a Daschle Democrat! Pretty desperate personal attack, PP.

  10. Well Randy, the thing is, Ericka is still supporting Democrats and their ideas, as Noem isnt. So guess theres that… what other enlightenment you got?

      1. The point flew right over your head.

If PP is so gross and creepy, why do you come here? You do know every click and comment equals dollar bills? You help pay his bills!

    1. Are you also creeped out that Google and Facebook track every move you make, every email you send, every ‘like’ you click? If you have school-aged children, they’re being tracked too.

I searched several names on the list, looked at their FB page and noticed that many of them freely gave information about themselves from 10+ years ago.

      Your comments are… boring.

  11. At least two of the hosts are related to Kelsea. Cathy Piersol being married to Kelsea’s great uncle and Leah being Cathy’s daughter.

      1. Did you see those protesters clawing at the Supreme Court doors? That was a fit to be seen.

Their fits grow, I read an article about a MN teacher asking someone to kill Kavanaugh. Terrifying.

    1. Oh you dont like the truth?? Lol.. then go follow another site and comment elsewhere buddy! Ha! That made my day.. lol

    2. Desden has provided interesting information.

You’ve provided hate, thanks in advance for that.

  12. Desden I’m telling you, you extremists are going to loose it for Noem.
The polls have shifted in favor of Democrats since the Kavanaugh protests. You are not helping Republicans. Please, stop.
    Be better.

    1. Never thought someone would be at such a loss to plagiarize others’ comments. See Anonymous 11:17 – Noem Campaign stops.

    2. You tried and failed. The polls have shifted in favor of Republicans, you obviously don’t pay attention.

Desden is far from an extremist, but you don’t know that because to you think any Republican/Indy is an extremist.

    3. Anonymous 11:57. Your comment is an exact copy and paste you just put as a comment on a different article. Be more original. And btw.. im not extreme. Im shedding light on the misconception people seem to have about sutton and how hes a “different” democrat. Dont like it? Then dont vote for him.

      1. They stole that comment from a more moderate Democrat desperate for the far left to stay away.

    4. anon 11:57 if anything kavanaugh exposed for sd voters the hyper-partisan dictatorship called the congressional democrat caucus. i feel sure that if anything, the kavanaugh episode has helped republicans across the board.

      1. Kavanaugh effect, polls showing pts increasing for:

        Cruz (TX)
        McSally (AZ)
        Blackburn (TN)
        Cramer (ND)

Nate Silver dropped his prediction Dems will take the House to a 19.4% likelihood. The “Blue Wave” is gone, but it’s still going to be a battle.

  13. The big point is that Billie is not “different” as he claims to be. He has a DC lobbyist speak for him when announced his candidacy. How is that different? He says he is pro-life and then has fundraiser a home of PP employee. How is that open and transparent? He is a politician. I am not saying that’s bad. I am saying he is not the “messiah” just as Obama claimed to be. He is trying to play both sides of the fence. Just like a politician. I have a great deal of respect for Billie and the obstacles that he has overcome from his accident. But, I will NOT compromise my beliefs just to support someone who does not share the same convictions that I do, just because he is a nice guy. I am sure that. He supported Hillary and her vision for our country. His words, not mine! If that is the vision he supports for our country, then it has to be the vision he has for SD if he becomes our governor. He and his supporters like to say that its not about party, but make commercials of Republicans supporting Sutton. If its not about party, why do they bring it up? Sutton is 100% the same as every other democrat that runs in a conservative state. They run as a conservative and if they win, they govern as a liberal. Sutton and his supporters slam Noem for being in DC, but Billie would switch places with her in a heartbeat and satisfy his political ambitions. If you think a congressional run is not in his future, you are kidding yourself. He complains about Noem DC money and takes money from Tim Johnson for SD. Where in the hell do his supporters think that money came from? Wake up people. Also his supporters need to quit crying foul if a true add exposes him. Politics is a contact sport and if he or his supporters cant handle that they need to pick a different sport, especially when he is “attacked” with facts. He obviously has told PP supporters something to get them to hold a fundraiser? What other pro-life candidate in SD has EVER had a fundraiser hosted by a PP employee at their home?????? Billie is a politician, just like every other politician. That’s not the problem that I have with him. My problem is with his politics. I will support him as a person, but I will not give up my belief to support his.

      1. Solid points raised. Not ad hominem attacks. If we’ve any chance to save our Republic, adults left and right must embrace that form of debate, eschewing taunts & tantrums.

    1. and your values were shown at Charlottesville during the Tiki Torch parade? Helsinki with Trump blowing off our nations security advisors and cuddling up to Putin?

      1. So, now I am a racist? WOW, that didn’t take long. Cant you come up with anything new? All these “ist” labels?

    2. Trump was here for a FUNDRAISER specifically for Kristi because she was integral in a lot of legislation. This was not a rally. He is out working for legislators but because he thought so much of Kristi he did this and maybe a couple other gubernatorial stops only.

  14. GOPDAD – They’ve got to reach real far to come up with violence from the right and we all know those those people in Charlottesville don’t represent Republicans/Conservatives.

The Democrat mods are out in full force and they’re being encouraged to be violent by Democrat politicians and activists.

Rep. Steve Scalise was shot while playing baseball.
Rep. Rand Paul was attacked while mowing his lawn.

White powdery substance sent to Ted Cruz’s campaign office.
Cruz and his wife were harassed while having dinner in DC.

A Wyoming GOP office was set on fire.
An Illinois GOP office was vandalized.

A man threatened to murder Congressman Bob Goodlatte (VA).
CA man attempts to stab a GOP candidate.
UT man arrested for sending ricin to Trump.

Democrat staffer doxxed several Reps and was going to release info about their children.
A MN teacher aid tweeted she wants someone to kill Kavanaugh.

    1. Domestic Alt-Right extremists with a stockpile of weapons, drugs and grenade launchers arrested in Willmar, The same type of group that bombed the Mosque in Bloomington, we could go on listing plenty.

      1. No Republican or Conservative, Libertarian or Independent supports or encourages that type of behavior. It’s disgusting and evil. Our weapons are truth, facts and data. Take your trash elsewhere.

The party displaying a trend in violence is Democrats/Leftists. Celebrities and the MSM are helping it grow. The list above was based off memory, it wouldn’t take long to add to it.

        Clap back.

        1. Another display of violence against Republicans…

Manhattan Republican Party and the New York City regional office for the New York Republican Party, was vandalized, including broken windows and spray-painted anarchist symbols. The criminal group that did the damage also left a note warning of more violence.

Leftist mobs are out in full force.

  15. Ive always been completely baffled by why smart women intimidate people like you. I have met and interacted with most of the women who you disparage and they are thoughtful and wise. I glanced at responses to your ignorant post..thank you for reaffirming why I will always support kindness and intelligence over ignorance and bigotry.

    1. Rachel, I thought they’re claiming to be “powerful” women? I didn’t see smart listed in their ego trip.

It’s difficult to separate people by gender because we are unified. Together, we all have fathers, wives brothers, sons, boyfriends, mothers. Democrats are not united, they over-played their hand; the Kavanaugh effect is real. When it seems you’re being unfair and assassinating a man’s character just because you can, that’s a problem.

      Sutton is rowing up-stream.

  16. Hey do you guys remember that fundraiser Kristi held in Minneapolis last November that cost a bunch to attend and was hosted by wealthy business people?

    1. Awww, someone else bitter they’re not wealthy:(

I remember when Trey Gowdy rallied for Kristi. Rock Star!
I was soooooooo mad the event was only held west river.
I’m soooo hurt that I don’t know if I can vote for her.

    2. No. How much and where snd hosted by who? Fundraisers sre held. Did the hosts also tout themselves?

  17. Anonymous…They are smart because I know most of them. They have all been strong, positive voices in my community and statewide. I am appalled at the most muck on this blog. Done. I will vote for Billie. I will vote for Tim. I

    1. Just because you know someone doesn’t make them smart. Just because Christine Balsey Ford said Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her doesn’t make it true.

They support babies being torn apart and sucked from their mother’s womb. That’s not strong or postive, that’s sick.

Who cares if your appalled, Rachel? I don’t. Great, vote for who you want. I’ll vote Noem and Dusty, so I cancel you out. You can’t resist coming to SDWC, you get high off your anger.

  18. Yep, keep supporting rape and sexual assault Anonymous. I’m sure your community is grateful for your presence.

      1. What Rachel forgot to include –
        You’re a Nazi,
        Trump is your Hitler and
        Russia, Russia, Russia!

  19. I was just wondering, if you shop in the natural, organic, and whole foods section of Hy-Vee, is one still a non-elitist?

(Come to think of it, I once saw Paul Erickson at HyVee….. 🙁 )

  20. Billie won’t be there, but staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Would they be willing to answer this question, “Does abortion kill a baby?”
I’d like a powerful Democrat woman to answer that.
