Herseth Sandlin to Democrats – Stop picking on us

In this Hill this week, Congresswoman Herseth Sandlin privately complained that she’s being picked on:

But Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.), a leader of the centrist Blue Dog Democrats, made a call for unity, urging more liberal members to stop publicly insulting Blue Dogs.

“She said we shouldn’t be questioning each other’s motives,” said one lawmaker.

Rep. Pete Stark (Calif.), a liberal and senior Democrat on the powerful Ways and Means Committee, recently criticized Blue Dogs in a conference call as “brain dead,” and said: “They’re just looking to raise money from insurance companies.”

Well. That’s what happens when you spend most of your time riding the fence with a finger in the air to test the wind.

“I hope he will call for a pragmatic, bipartisan approach,” said Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, D-S.D., head of the fiscally conservative Blue Dog coalition. “I support necessary change, but not radical change.”

So, is she campaigning for Obamacare or not?  This is such typical Herseth, where she refuses to take a legislative position on nearly anything of substance.

But don’t worry. You don’t have to be scared just because Democrats are in charge.

I have never heard regular people openly mock her like I have in the last few months. I’m telling all of those interested in running against her they are going to get 45% of the vote by running a mildly better campaign than Chris Lien.

This is the year to be that candidate if you want to have a shot at the open seat in 2014. If it gets much worse it might even be the year to end her political career!

The princess is getting picked on by not just her fellow South Dakotans, but now her cronies in Washington, DC!!!!

Save the name calling from my thin skinned liberal name calling friends.

Does bi-partisian mean blue-dogs and liberals working together? I didn’t hear the ‘get government out of health care’ aspect of this issue yet!? Oh yeah, we don’t exist!

….Marty??????

I think her desire is to vote for obamacare but she doesn’t want to get tossed out on her butt! She is in a pickle!

Bill or PP do either of you know if there has been any polling done in S. Dak. on Health care reform?

Yes, there has, oldguy. I have news of it backchannel. It’s not a public poll however, but thoroughly reliable. You would be very surprised at the data, I think.

Health care reform and Obama/Pelosi/Reid health care/insurance reform packages are two entirely different things. Most everyone wants health care reform. We disagree greatly on how to accomplish it. Libs want complete gov’t takeover without addressing portability or tort reform. (Obama BTW did not promise to put tort reform in a bill; he just said he would let Sebelius study it or some such thing) Libs want it to cover abortion. Conservatives want to target certain areas to reform at much less cost and without saddling future generations with horrendous debt. And conservaties want portabiltiy and tort reform. They do NOT want it to cover abortion. (The present plan will cover it because it has no provision preventing it; in fact, the Dems voted down such an amendment; why, if it won’t cover abortion according to O?)

So, Bill, if you have a poll that says SD’ans want health reform, that wouldn’t surprise anyone. I would be very surprised if the majority want O’s plan though.

Whoa! Stephanie’s a Democrat?
