Here’s the scoop – the draft language to repeal the Embryonic Stem Cell research ban.

Just two posts ago, I referenced a post that Bob Mercer did on a committee being formed to repeal the Embryonic Stem Cell research ban.  Here’s the rough draft of what they submitted to the Legislative Research Council in all it’s glory.

Or infamy, since it is designed to allow repeal the ban destroying human embryos for purposes of experimentation.

You can, of course read the whole thing via PDF as well.

“South Dakotans for Lifesaving Cures” also has a website set up at http://www.sdcures.com/.    In case you were wondering who our former Republican State Treasurer Dave Volk is promoting this measure with, the registry information for the website points us in the direction of where the measure is being managed out of:

That’s right – just like pro-choice group “Campaign for Healthy Families” this measure is being promoted and ran out of Hildebrand Strategies, the company of Democratic political consultant Steve Hildebrand.

(And just remember – you read it here first at the SDWC).

Cool. Thanks for posting this, PP. I hope it gets to the ballot because this is something I’d like to vote for.

Looks like you’re missing at least a page of the printed bill.

Democrats and a Republican are promoting lifesaving cures? Good for them.

I love the smell of bipartisanship in the morning.

Democrats and a Republican are promoting using embryos for medical experimentation, literally chopping up children?

It’s like the campaign for healthy families all over again. Except this time the huge anonymous donor will probably be T. Denny.

Life saving cures! Is that like Abortion saves the political life of a promising young Democrat!?

Progressives: finding new ways to kill people…legally!

It’s my understanding that most of the stem cells used for research were created for use in in vitro fertility treatments.

From Wikipedia-
“Most of these embryos are to be destroyed, or stored for long periods of time, long past their viable storage life. In the United States alone, there have been estimates of at least 400,000 such embryos. This has led some opponents of abortion, such as Senator Orrin Hatch, to support human embryonic stem cell research.”

So there are really 3 options:
1. Outlaw in vitro fertility treatments for couples who can’t get pregnant. Outlaw stem cell research.
2. Allow in vitro fertilization, destroy/store the extra embryos.
3. Allow in vitro fertilization, allow research into life-saving cures on the extra embroys.

The option that many Republicans support, number 2, doesn’t make any sense to me, and it seems to be the least “pro-life” of the three.

Yeah, Braden. To start, all you have to do is just label one life inferior, then the next one isn’t so hard.

Is there a way for us to repeal Senator Tim Johnson if he votes for Cap and Tax and ObamaCare?

I would sign a repeal of Tim Johnson letter!

The main essence of the bill: Legalize all embryonic stem cell research.

The stated name of the bill: Strenghen the prohibition against human cloning and establish ethical guidelines for other medical research.

Offensively misleading.

In Huntesque fashion, under the new capaign reporting law, it will be interesting to follow the trail of money that is behind this.

moronic, cures are happening with ascr RIGHT NOW. remember dr. oz on oprah, “escr is a thing of the past!!”,,,hmmm but spend money on research that hasn’t produced anything but tumors for decades…except of course to drain $$ that ascre could use to help even more folks right now, produce life-saving solutions now ascr or never escr, every credible researcher nows the facts, it’s 73-0 ascr!!!! game on!

seems like a great way to mobilize folks that steve would prefer stay home,,,the rough polls indicate bho will not serve s.h.s. well in SD,,,we know these two have had their problems,,,conspiracy?? just odd they would move a piece like this in a year like 2010, oh well should be fun
