Damage control? Or an admission that their previous line was all BS.
From KELOland:
It turns out Brendan Johnson wasn’t the only South Dakotan who wanted to be the state’s next U.S. attorney. Beadle County State’s Attorney Michael Moore also applied for the job.
and…
Moore says he thinks it was a fair process. He applied in February and says he was told in June that the Obama administration would recommend Johnson, son of U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson. Moore says Johnson’s Senate office helped him as he sought the job.
There were two who applied? What about the statement from SD Democrats:
Rick Hauffe, executive director of the South Dakota Democratic Party, said Johnson has “extraordinary abilities” and “his own star power,” adding that no one else expressed interest in the position because Johnson is so formidable and made his interest known early.
Read that here. And what about the statement that “Johnson’s Senate office helped him as he sought the job?”
Tim Johnson, D-S.D., who has served in the Senate since 1997, has said he did not take part in the nomination process.
Only one who applied? Now we find out there was at least more than one.
The Senator was going to stay out of it? Now we find out he and his staff went directly to the Judiciary committee.
There’s enough political doubletalk and deception to fill a novel in this tale of family favoritism and political dynasty building. All courtesy of Senator Tim Johnson.

So…the truth isn’t the truth even when it happens. Maybe, some people no longer recognize the truth.
Wow, that quote from me is being stretched out of context here. My quote was a response to a question from a D.C. reporter, not an official statement of the S.D. Democratic Party.
The reporter called me after the election to ask if I had had calls from anyone seeking appointment to the U.S. Attorney position. I answered that nobody had talked to me about it and that I was not in a position to know much about the process as a state party employee.
I did say that I had heard (from a South Dakota news reporter) that Brendan Johnson was interested and I said that he would be a very good choice. He is a great choice for the position and our state is lucky that he was selected. Brendan is a sincere, dedicated individual. Ask anyone who knows him.
Until seeing your posts here today, I was unaware that there was another candidate for the position. I trust Michael Moore at his word that he felt that the appointment process was carried out fairly and appropriately.
Sure, moore had a fair shot, check resume’s…he would tower over BJ by any standard other than his last name.
Well, I’m shocked, PP, just shocked that with all the ’spies’ you have that you didn’t know another attorney applied for the job.
The Johnson Lie Machine knows no limits. When will someone finally blow the whistle on this hack!!??
Where did Johnson spokeswoman Fischer learn to lie so well? remember how she lied for a year about the press not being able to interview Tim? remember how she lied about Tim debating during 2008? now she’s lying to protect Prince Brendan? i can’t believe what a bunch of dupes and lackeys the SD press can be
I’m confused what you’re really upset about here, Pat. It is that someone that’s related to Senator Johnson got a new job? Is it that he stayed hands off with who the nominee was going to be until there was a snag with the nominee out of our state at which point a member of Congress stepped in? Is is that he’s going to get a nice check for leaving his law partnership? Is it that another applicant has come forward and said he was treated well by Senator Johnson?
I fail to see where our Senator or nominating system has failed us.
Thank you, 12:50. I had a sneaking suspicion that was part of it, but couldn’t quite put my finger on it.
