Do Dems see John Thune as Invincible this election?

From Dave Kranz at the Argus Leader:

Hauffe says the ultimate let down for Democrats would be if the Democratic Party would let a race go without trying to field a candidate.

That suggests that the party could find a dark horse to run in the race.

However, state Rep. Bill Thompson, a veteran Democrat, says the party’s focus is elsewhere.

“The Democratic Party’s focus is on the governor’s race and the constitutional offices. The governor’s race in terms of discussion seems to be at the top of the party agenda,” Thompson said.

Read it there.

It looks like Dems are potentially throwing in the towel when it comes to John Thune.  They just can’t find a candidate who even wants to try for a piece of him.  It sounds like the sacrificial lambs in the SDDP understand that he’s one of the strongest, and most popular Senators in the nation.

Can’t we find a Bruce Whalen? I mean, why not throw Volesky at em?

“strongest, and most popular Senators in the nation.”

That’s true, if you are only counting his fellow Republican senators. The rest of the country doesn’t give two sh’ts about Thune. This is a guy who recently voted against rape protections. Yeah, real popular, especially with the women folk.

Maybe Detroit would like to run against Thune as he always has the answers. If not him how about Mosses as he “hates” Thune. In other words if you dislike the way a person votes either run or get somebody to run who thinks like you. So far it doesn’t seem like that is going to happen.

I like Thune, but I hope he doesn’t get too comfortable. That’s when the head swells and he starts thinking he can do anything he wants.

A representative fearful of his constituency is the best representative.

Jeff J. I think Thune is too well grounded and has sane people around him to keep him from catching any “Daschle – ‘I’m a proud DC resident’” diseases.

Funny this article came up as I recently this morning saw Thune on FOX responding to Oblabla’s comments that “he’s not tired, we will have healthcare reform, we will have clean energy, we will have safe schools, we will have…. bla, bla, bla” Thune’s response was that this was a bold statement to make and his question was only “how are we going to pay for all of this??”

Typically absent from any airwaves is our illustrious other Senator, TJ. Typical non presence at our expense. Now that TJ’s done greasing the skids for his kid’s job at the US Attorney’s office he should have some time for Julianne – - I mean him to appear in public and actually make a cognitive comment. Don’t hold your breath. What a waste.

“That’s when the head swells”

It’s already so freaking big you need a flatbed to carry it around.

detroitless-you went dormant for a while now your back and as angry as ever. Why did you come back and why are you so angry? just curious.

Detroit: I just posted this on you pathetic website but since you opened the door here about the “rape vote”:

When liberals show some intellectual honesty and admit:
1. That what Roman Polanski did was, yes, really rape.
2. When they quit playing the homophobe card with people who question Safe School Czar Keith Jennings about how he failed to report what may have been the rape of a minor boy by an older man.
3. When they show some outrage over Tim Johnson’s chief of staff making money from a Playboy article he wrote about a rape he witnessed….

Then the hypocrisy factor will be diminished considerably.

I saw Thune on Fox this morning. He looked like he was in Obama’s league.

The Dems really should wake up before he looks around and realizes he wants Obama’s job and it’s to late for them to do anything.

Thune is the man!!!

Oh yeah with $157,000 in the bank Herseth really should’ve taken on Thune and his $6,000,0000.

I bet he would’ve beaten her 58-42!

stopstephanie .com

does anyone still go to this site???

The comical thing is that “Jumpshot Jesus” — the libs’ favorite put-down phrase for Thune — more accurately describes Nobama!! After all, he plays basketball, and his Kool-Aid-drinking, swooning fans think he’s the Messiah!

I am not all that busy next summer. I have to work again in the fall, but I have some free time in the evenings to campaign. I am not registered as a Democrat, but I could do that fairly quickly. I would be willing to apply for the job if it paid $100k for the next year. I would not require any advertising. I would be willing to debate John Thune any time and anywhere as long as it is in Sioux Falls after school starts and at night. If interested, Dems, let me know.

GOdug I bet you wouldnt vote against veterans on health care would you. Mandatory funding for all veterans like Thune has in the past.My vote is for Dug.

10:48 — where have you been Moses?

I really want a strong candidate to run against John “I like rape” Thune and get him out of office. He is a constant embarrassment to South Dakota.

1:01, that is a ridiculous statement. See 12:40. When yiou can address the Schools Czar, etc., with some intellectual honesty, them there can be a real discussion.

Anon 7:06, this is the first I’m hearing about any of those things. All I care about is that Sen. John Thune voted against protection for rape victims and that his vote was unethical, unAmerican and does not represent South Dakota. Thune should be ashamed of himself and should appologize for that vote.

You mean Thune voted against a law that was designed to affect a single case against a single company currently under litigation?

In SD, that measure wouldn’t even be allowed to have been brought up. It is bad law, and regardless of the circumstances in the case, it is using the power of the legislative branch selectively and inappropriately.

8:16, that’s right. John and his hypocritcal liberal friends don’t get it. This vote was about interfering in the procedures of a corporation, not about rape victims. And let’s face it. Any other company but Halliburton and Franken wouldn’t be pushing this. What’s even more ridiculous is Franken being behind this, when he made a “living” from crude sexist “satire.”
And John..if you haven’t heard about those things (particularly #2), that’s because you are listening only to the liberal media. No way would they talk about anything that reflects badly on their precious Obama and the nutcase czars he is surrounding himself with.
Finally…if this Halliburton thing (which is a real stretch) is all you can come up with to trash Thune, then you are truly desperate.

Thank you two for once again proving that conservatives only pretend to have morals and compassion for other human beings.

This isn’t about Halliburton or KBR. Sure, they’re the bad guys in this story, but they actually helped us by showing us an unethical loophole that needed to be closed. Companies that have a clause in their contracts protecting them from being sued if their employees rape another employee should NOT be in business with the United States government. Halliburton can continue to have that clause in their contracts, but they can no longer be in business with our government. What’s wrong about preventing that? It should be the job of our elected officials to protect us from crap like that.

And did you guys notice how all four female Republican Senators voted for Franken’s amendment? That should be a clue for you. And I’m not doing it because I want to trash Thune, I think it’s outragious and unethical that any elected official would vote against an amendment like that. Thune is supposed to represent South Dakota, but that vote is another example of how he has failed us as our representative.

I also think it’s funny that you mention “using the legislative branch selectively” while right now a bunch of Republicans are trying to eliminate ACORN’s funding.

Anon 9:33, it’s true that I don’t follow all sources of news. I don’t have the time. But I don’t follow only liberal news, for example I get a lot of news from conservative sources like this very blog. But, y’know, I think I’ll humor you and look at that list you place so much value in:

1.) Sure, after doing some research I would agree that Roman Polanski is guilty of rape. He was found guilty of what ammounts to statutory rape and it seems like some other charges were dropped to protect the identity of the victim.

2.) Most of the time conservatives are homophobes and in this case I think they’re mostly attacking Kevin Jennings because he’s gay. He recently admitted that he wasn’t prepared for a situation like that as a teacher and wishes he would’ve handled the situation differently. Hindsight is 20/20. But I don’t think that’s enough to fire him.

3.) The main thing I found about that Playboy deal was this:
http://www.politico.com/politicopros/dreysamuelson.html

I don’t think there is anything to be outraged about. Samuelson didn’t write it as a sexy story, he wanted to write about a painful experience in his life. And he even confronted/interviewed one of the criminals from the story.

So there, are you happy now?

Thanks John for looking into these things.
You predictably played the homophobe card with Jennings. If this had been a young girl with an older man, don’t you think this would have been reported? This guy is in charge of Safe Schools. That’s pretty significant.

Either way, you need to retract the ‘I like rape” thing. That’s ridiculous.

Perhaps I did go too far with the “I like rape” thing. But Sen. Thune did vote to protect corporations’ ability to cover-up employee rape. I strongly believe that vote was unethical and against South Dakota’s values.

Sometimes conservatives are deserving of the “homophobe card” because they unfairly attack gay Americans pretty much because they’re gay. It doesn’t surprise me to see conservatives looking for any possible way to destroy President Obama’s gay appointees.

As for Jennings, I’m giving him some slack because teachers weren’t trained to deal with situations like that back then. I’d like to think I would make the right decision in that case, but we’re all imperfect. Jennings says he wishes he would’ve asked the kid more questions about that relationship. If anything, that mistake probably taught Jennings how to better deal with those situations and that might make him a good person to be in the Safe Schools Office.
