from my mailbox – everyone is opposing cap and tax on the gop side of the ticket
From my mailbox
Sioux Falls, SD – On Tuesday, four gubernatorial candidates urged Senators Tim Johnson and John Thune to oppose Cap and Trade legislation in the US Senate. Dennis Daugaard, Dave Knudson, Ken Knuppe, and Scott Munsterman joined with state legislative leaders, Rep. Tim Rave, Rep. Bob Faehn, and Rep. Kristi Noem, U.S. House Candidates Chris Nelson and Blake Curd, and nearly four hundred South Dakotans who signed an online letter opposing the negative impact cap and trade will have on South Dakota’s economy. Cap and Trade legislation purports to limit carbon emissions, meanwhile businesses and consumers will pay higher prices for gas and energy utilities as a result of this legislation.
Candidate Dennis Daugaard said, “Cap and Trade would hike energy taxes on families and businesses who are already struggling. We should be focused on keeping taxes low and creating jobs.” Fellow candidate Scott Munsterman argues “economic development is important to communities across our state. Cap and Trade would hinder growth across our state at a time when we need to grow the economy.”
Recently nearly four hundred South Dakotans signed an online letter to Senator Johnson asking him to look out for South Dakota ’s interests and oppose Cap and Trade legislation. The online letter and full list of signatures can be found at www.danlederman.com/capandtrade. A study conducted by the Heritage Foundation shows South Dakota would lose an average of $2,718 jobs per year between 2012 and 2035 and reduce the state gross domestic product by $967 person.
Gubernatorial candidate Dave Knudson adds, “today, South Dakota is struggling to survive the toughest economy it has seen since the Great Depression. Cap and Trade legislation would place an unbearable tax burden on South Dakota businesses and result in more job losses, that is simply unacceptable.” West River candidate Ken Knuppe contends “this legislation would burden U.S. farmers and ranchers, consumers will be forced to pay more for the same goods and services they are getting now.” U.S. House candidate Chris Nelson also stated, “agriculture, tourism, and manufacturing will be harmed by this legislation which will unnecessarily drive up energy costs. This energy tax will make it harder for all South Dakota families to make ends meet.”
Cap and Trade legislation H.R. 2454 has passed the U.S. House and is currently pending Senate Committee approval.

Johnson won’t listen to letters, phone calls, or any type of contacts. He will vote the straight Democrat line and that includes cap and trade. He said as much in a recent email. Just goes to prove that he cares more for being a good little doggie than looking out for the true concerns for SD, and just proves what a huge mistake people make last election with their pity vote. He wouldn’t meet with constituents last summer, and he won’t listen to them now. It’s a sad commentary on politics. After his last email to me which was full of half-truths and feel good/say nothing comments, I told him he didn’t need to bother contacting me anymore if he couldn’t tell the truth. Don’t imagine he read that one either!
I see Dan Lederman is still pushing the anti cap and trade petition! Keep it up Dan! Good to see so many people are standing strong on this issue.
I know we have two real challengers in the congressional race right now but I feel there is still a lot of room for a dynamic personality in the GOP primary like Lederman, Kristi Noem, Shantel Krebs, Lee Schoenbeck or Dusty or Jarrod Johnson. Even Larry Russell from the Lincoln Day Dinners a few years ago would do himself some good to show up again in 2010.
There is a lot of talent in the SD GOP!
If cap and trade is implemented, everything that uses energy in its production or delivery will experience higher energy costs that will have to be passed on to consumers. By the time an ear of North Dakota corn gets planted, harvested, processed, and gets put in a can on a grocery store shelf, it will have been taxed at least 10 times. Prices on most of the food, medicine, hardware, and most of everything else that we buy will be forced up by 40%.

Well include Herseth in that bunch and I guess Tim Johnson is hanging on a limb!
I like that Tim Johnson is so liberal these days. That way Brendan will be damaged goods when he runs for congress.
Brendan should show a little clout now with his dad if he wants to get elected.
