Long time carrier of water for the elephant passes away in Rapid City
From the Rapid City Journal:
Helen Daughenbaugh, a longtime Pennington County auditor, a leading figure in local Republican politics for decades, and a member of a pioneering Black Hills family, has died.
Daughenbaugh died Tuesday at age 90 at Westhills Village in Rapid City.
She worked in the Pennington County Courthouse for more than 40 years, including 18 years as auditor from 1969-1987.
Back when I was out in Rapid City in the early 90’s, Helen was already a long, long standing institution within the local Republican organization.
I remember when we had Bill Janklow for our Lincoln Day Dinner (right before his 2nd run for governor); in his speech she was one of two or three that he specifically singled out as having been a significant and important part of Republican politics in Pennington County for decades.
I know Helen will be greatly missed, as people of her dedication and integrity simply don’t run for office as much as we need them to anymore.
