2009 GOP House Forum in Sioux Falls
From my mailbox:
Siouxland Republican Women’s forum for the three declared candidates for the Republican Primary for the US House of Representatives race included a full house at Westward Ho in Sioux Falls Tuesday night with over 100 people attending including television and press representatives. The three candidates, Sec. of State Chris Nelson, SD State Rep. R. Blake Curd and Technician Thad Wasson each gave a seven minute presentation about why they feel that they are the best person to represent South Dakota in Washington DC in our lone house seat. Then they answered questions from the audience for a full hour. All three are quality candidates. The questions covered a multitude of topics. Here are a few photos from the event.
As you can see in the photos, Blake Curd’s son really was the star of the show. At almost eight years old he handled himself with decorum that rivaled many adults. He helped himself to brownies, sat quietly at the table or with his father for the entire two hours, and even though he sat where everyone could see him he was not a distraction. In fact, at one point he really brought home the reason that these men are willing to represent us–because there is another generation that doesn’t deserve the debt that this administration is racking up for them.

Very good event. Stephanie will have a real race on her hands this next go-around.
In particular, both Chris Nelson & Blake Curd provided well thought out rationales for their candidacies, demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the issues & great extemporaneous responses to audience questions.
Burning coal and oil doesn’t reduce the options for the future of energy–it simply gives us a current option while others are developed.
Carter created the Dept of Energy to develop those new sources back in the very early eighties, but as government does NOTHING well–that dept has simply spent our taxpayer dollars and not worked very hard toward renewable sources.
Case in point. Big Stone II would have continued use of clean coal while building transmission lines for wind–making it a win-win–but short sighted government officials stopped the project.
GREAT FORUM, great candidates, great questions, great answers!
Thanks to the Siouxland Republican Women for sponsoring and running a very good forum. Stephanie will finally have good, solid, competition for her seat this year. Especially since the Dems are throwing her under the bus too! I hope everyone takes advantage of an opportunity to hear these excellent candidates.
looked like a good crowd with lots of interest!
I don’t get the kid at the front table thing though. He couldn’t sit with someone else in the crowd?
At this point I like Blake Curd.
good candidates – this is going to be a fun election year (Cory – maybe not so much for you though buddy
)
Wish Schoenbeck was running for Congress!
If he was in a James Bond movie they’d name him “Passion Galore”!
Guys got skill and appeal

Yeah, but we should burn up all the coal and oil we can and reduce their energy options for the future, right?
