Volesky to tap his child to run his campaign.
Well, I have to say that this is probably a first.
Ron Volesky, a Democratic candidate for governor, will have his son serve as campaign manager.
Tucker Volesky is a sophomore in high school. He has participated in debate and varsity basketball and track.

Kudos to a young person for wanting to take this on. It will give him some experience for later political stuff if he wants. But Ron Volesky????
Is Ron going to appoint his potted plant as his driver, and then sit behind it, and go “vroom, vroom?”
I’m sure the young man is quite capable for his age, but I don’t know that dragging him in as ‘a gimmick’ for the campaign does anything for Ron’s credibility.
PP it really points out what it takes to run a campaign!
Second, Volesky and credibility in the same sentence- HA!
I am sure his son is a great kid, but are you kidding me? It shows he isn’t very serious about his campaign, has no money, he can’t win and no one wants to work with him.
One of two things. Either this is one of the most brilliant moves, or one of the stupidest moves of all time. Time will be the judge of this one.
Kind of reminds me of when John McCain named Sarah ‘Who’ the Governor of ‘where’ as his running mate.
I think what it says is that Tucker is interested in politics, Ron understands his chances of winning the Primary are slim, so he is investing in his son. Good for him. It will be a great opportunity to learn some of the very basics of campaigning and hopefully continue to build on those interests. Tucker is going to learn some very valuable lessons.
Amanda – well said. Plus, even in an unsuccssful effort, they will get some great father-son time travelling around the state, meeting people, and attending events. Ten years from now, nobody will know that Ron ran, but his family will take some great memories of time and events together.
Like Lee and Troy, I spent a good part of my youth stuffing envelopes, putting up posters and listening to speeches from candidates. The first campaign I clearly recall was Nils Boe, but remember meeting E.Y. (10 points to the first poster that knows what E.Y. stood for) Berry and may others from what I call the “Eisenhower era” of the GOP in South Dakota. I clearly remember sitting in the Senate dining room, when I was 11 or 12, and Ted Kennedy looking down to say hello to me.
My public policy education came far more from our dinner table guests and experiences like that than from my degree in Political Science. I think Ron should even consider taking his son out of school for the duration, if possible. It will be the best education he will ever get.
I have no doubts that the young Mr. Volesky will gain an valuable education while running his father’s campaign. However, I have to disagree with the idea of pulling him out of school, unless there is some arrangements made to allow Tucker to keep up on his studies. That is more do able now given our current level of technology.
It should be a good educational experience for the lad. What he has learned so far from his father is how to lie publicly. Volesky promised to never run for office again after conceeding before returns were in last time he was on a ballot.
Not all titles are what they seem. Tucker will learn alot, Ron and he will enjoy their time together, and someone else might be called “Campaign Director.”
I know many think Ron a laughing stock and maybe electorally he is. But Ron Volesky is a fine man who has contributed much to the political process, loves this state, and loves being involved.
Les- Many. Not sure it qualifies me for anything. I do think I am a little smarter for a few of them.
He’ll probably do just fine, have fun, and learn a bunch that he can then teach to his peers. It’s good that young people want to be involved in politics, and cool of Ron to involve his son. Think Boy’s State on steroids.
Grudz, I bet PP serves up a mighty tasty lunch, actually. But Pat’s right. Tucker will probably just have to settle for a Heidepriem patty melt and a bag of DoritosĀ®.

Tucker’s a debater — Volesky wins!
