Launch of Draft Dick Cheney 2012

Grassroots Movement Launched to Urge Former VP Dick Cheney to Seek the GOP Nomination for President in 2012

( Washington , DC ) – Today, Draft Dick Cheney 2012, a 527 organization formed to convince former Vice President Dick Cheney to seek the GOP nomination for President in 2012, formally launched. The center-piece of the draft Cheney movement is the website www.draftcheney2012.com. “The 2012 race for the Republican nomination for President will be about much more then who will be the party’s standard bearer against Barack Obama, the race is about the heart and soul of the GOP,” said Christopher Barron, one of the organizer’s of the Draft Cheney movement. “There is only one person in our party with the experience, political courage and unwavering commitment to the values that made our party strong – and that person is Dick Cheney.”

Over the last few months, a number of prominent conservatives have advocated a Cheney run in 2012:

“Of course, everyone’s first choice for president in 2012 is Dick Cheney,” – Bill Kristol, 4/24/09 The Weekly Standard

“As inconceivable as it may seem today, the 2012 election may end up turning on national security. Republicans would be wise to nominate someone with both toughness and experience. Under such circumstances, it’s hard to think of a better candidate–assuming, of course, that he could be persuaded to run–than Richard B. Cheney.” – James Taranto, 8/31/2009 The Wall Street Journal

“Well, Neil, I have to tell you, he’s my candidate. But I have yet to get him on board with the concept,” – Liz Cheney, 11/17/2009, Fox News

“The Obama administration is playing a dangerous game of Russian-roulette with the safety of Americans at home and abroad,” said Barron. “He has refused to stand up to the tyrannical Iranian regime of Ahmadinejad, refused to listen to our military leaders on the ground in Afghanistan , and is bringing the mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks to New York for a dangerous show trial.”

“When it comes to foreign policy, no potential 2012 candidate has as much foreign policy experience and expertise as Vice President Cheney,” continued Barron.

“The domestic policies of the Obama administration have been as disastrous as their foreign policy,” said Jimmy LaSalvia, one of the organizers of the Draft Cheney movement. “The tax and spend policies of this administration are an unmitigated failure. We need a President, like Dick Cheney, who understands that we need free market solutions to jump start our economy.”

“During his eight years as Vice President, Dick Cheney was an outspoken advocate for conservative economic policies. He was a consistent voice for expanding tax cuts, cutting spending and reigning in the size and scope of the federal government,” said LaSalvia.

Over the next few months, the Draft Cheney movement will begin to build grassroots support for a potential Presidential bid by the former Vice President. “We believe strongly that the Republican base is hungry for principled, experience, leadership. We hope to make the case to the Vice President and his family over the next few months and years that he alone can lead the Republican coalition to victory in 2012,” concluded Barron.

Highly doubtful. Although he’d be a incredible leader when it comes to homeland security.

The howling you hear is actually laughter. The same you hear when there’s a story about a Palin canidacy.

I hope the Republicans DO nominate either Cheney or Palin. Then Cheney could explain two botched wars under his watch, the erosion of our privacy under his watch, and the near total collapse of the economy caused by his Administration’s non-existent regulation.

As for Palin, people will tired of her ignorance and lack of inquisitiveness, just as they did G.W. Bush’s.

Pat, sorry to have scooped you, but I had this on my blog and Facebook on Saturday. ;) One of my other young Republican friends had posted it on their Facebook account.

As a lawyer, I am afraid as I don’t want Dick shooting me in the face while hunting. Otherwise, a Cheney/Palin ticket will give my Man Crush another four years, provided the world doesn’t end in 2012 like the Incas and Hollywood say.

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

Brett Favre would be a better choice.

I am a lifelong Republican, if Cheney were to be our nominee I would vote for a third party candidate. He would clearly be the wrong choice to lead our country. We need to be looking at serious contenders such as Huckabee, Thune, Jindal and others.

I’ve got a slogan for Dick:

Get those water boards out of storage! Cheney’s back in charge!

Todd

Wasn’t 8 years of him as president enough? Besides, is there anything left to break?

I’m hearing it’s the “log cabin” Repubs who are trying to draft Cheney. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.) Go gay rights!

I say this without snark: Cheney might be the strongest, most qualified candidate the GOP could find. I find his policies abhorrent, but a Cheney-vs.-Obama matchup in 2012 would be fascinating to watch… and Cheney could speak more substantitively to issues than any of the other Republicans I see mentioned above.

Bill:

My young Republican friend is also involved in the Log Cabin Republicans. I thought it was a joke at first but I think it is a serious draft movement. No howling from this Democrat. I’m guessing Dick is enjoying his retirement and doing a lot of hunting and carping about Barry.

He won’t do it, but if he did, I’d be the first to write a check to his campaign. Obama’s “reaching out” to radical Muslims and apologizing for America without talking about the good we’ve done has accomplished nothing; the jihadists and the Iranians are just mocking us even more.

And you know what? If that terror trial is under way in NY, most Americans are going to get sick and tired of it being used as a platform for those vermin. Eric Holder’s goal of putting Cheney/Bush on trial will backfire, big time.

Cheney’s a fossil but would be a good sec of state. I’m tired of pussy footing around with these desert dwelling, gun toting terrorist idiots. “Listen up or we’ll bomb you back into the stone age. Oh wait, you’re already there….”

We need youth and intelligence. Thune jumps right out. He has that JFK haircut and personna to capture even the left. Perfect choice, but he needs to get on the airwaves. Maybe a page out of Oblabla’s playbook, get a Direct TV channel and run it 24/7. Home shopping network, Thune plates, picture frames, tree ornaments, clocks. Gotta think big here.

Sorry. Too much coffee.
