Knuppe raises $20k in campaign cash
Saw this on the Rapid City Journal’s website:
Buffalo Gap rancher Ken Knuppe, one of four Republican candidates for governor, said this week that he has raised $20,000 in campaign contributions.
It’s a relatively small amount to the leading candidates, Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard and state Sen. Dave Knudson, who have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. But Knuppe said in a news release that he isn’t deterred by the funding gap. He’s just grateful to the 100 or so people who have contributed.
“The kind of people who are supporting me, who are looking for a new direction in this state, are the kind of people who probably don’t have $1,000 to spend on a political campaign,” he said. “That’s OK with me. This is a grass-roots effort.”
Knuppe said he and his campaign team have been frugal with the donations so far. “We’ve mostly spent the money on gas and brochures and a few stickers,” he said.
They’re right, it’s a small amount, but I have to admit, I’m happy to see that all the candidates are raising money, whatever amount it might be.
But 100 people have contributed, to give him a total of $20,000? It sounds like a few people might have $1,000 to throw around for this campaign…

West River Ranchers are very conservative with their money and are the same with other people’s money. Just the type of fiscal constraint we need in Pierre. I’m sure they won’t be sending the big checks that the groups who live off the government will be making sure to donate.

His friends are wealthy West River ranchers…likely millonaires all of them, and $20k is it? He needs to ask for more.
