Herseth Sandlin a Firm No, Says Party Leaders Are Poisoning the Well with Underhanded Procedures
Blue Dog Chair Says Win-At-All-Costs Attitude By Dem Leaders Is Toxic:
“There’s also been talk about using a legislative maneuver called ‘deeming,’ which would consider the Senate bill – without a direct vote on the bill – it would consider the Senate bill ‘passed’ with changes. While deeming – like reconciliation – has been used by Republicans and Democrats in the past, the context in which it would be used in this case leads me to conclude that it would poison an already terribly partisan atmosphere and leave the Congress even less able to find bipartisan solutions to fiscal problems that are on the verge of becoming overwhelming.” (Stephanie Herseth Sandlin Conference Call, 3/18/10)

I am curious. What are the chances she might decide to switch parties? What will the reaction be if she chooses to switch?
The “partisan issue” especially in the House is bogus and she knows it. If the Dems were being partisan, all this would have been passed months and months ago in both Legislative chambers and signed into law.
What is she doing to bring her fellow Democrats around to her way of thinking. This is not leadership.
The Herseth statements are rather critical of her own part.
Her commitment to a NO vote is a pretty good indication the
demorats don’t have the votes to pass this disastrous bill.
Anything to make the phones stop ringing. . .
First she votes No on Tarp/bailouts and then No on the health plan? If she hadn’t endorsed Obama after Edwards, and to make Pelosi speaker, I might consider voting for her myself.
Sidenote: Hildy seems to have cooled off a little. Now he’s saying he will “probably” run if the Health Care Reform Bill doesn’t pass. My hunch is, it will most likely pass and he won’t run. I’m guessing he was just trying to put the squeeze on her and it didn’t work.
Buzz is also growing around a possible candidacy by popular term-limited Gov. Mike Rounds (R). Rounds left the door slightly ajar in a recent interview with the local Argus Leader.
“My plan is to go back to my business,” he wrote in an e-mail. “Do I plan to make a change to my existing plans? Not at this time.”

If I had to put my money on a candidate that Herseth doesn’t want to face it would be #1 Noem, #2 Curd and #3 Nelson.
I think Noem has the most appeal to the average voter because she is a natural at retail politics and Curd and Nelson (Dykstra, Whalen) both seriously lack that charisma.
Nelson is a B- candidate, Curd is a B+ but Noem has the potential to be a Rockstar. Those other guys just don’t have that kind of (John Thune) potential.
I think this is a stupid move by Rep. Herseth Sandlin. What does this get her exactly? It pisses off her loyal liberal supporters and runs the risk of them sitting out her campaign. And the stupid conservatives who are against health care reform are probably not going to vote for her anyway. So what was the point of deciding to vote the wrong way on this issue?
Tin, I think it’s the exact opposite. I think it’s a pretty clear indication they have more than the votes they need so now they’re protecting seats by allowing members in tough races to vote no. When Kucinich flipped Wed, I think it was game over.
Anybody who thinks this is anything but election positioning, and is a true statement of principle on SHS’s, part is living in a dream world.
I agree MHS. The only way we will really know is if it doesn’t pass and her vote would have been the deciding one. Otherwise, based on her past voting history and the fact of her upcoming election, it is suspicious. Maybe if she had been more willing to meet with her constituents and discuss with them openly, we would not be so suspicious!
How in the world did the dems create a bill that costs 1 trillion $, 2,000 pages and not really fix anything?
What is so difficult about allowing insurance companies to sell across state lines?

I’m glad to give credit where credit is due, good for her!
