South Dakota GOP goes after Heidepreim for his comments as well
From the South Dakota Republican Party:
Heidepriem needs to apologize for ‘hate’ comment
PIERRE – Democratic leader Scott Heidepriem owes an apology to a large majority of South Dakotans for calling the Republican Party the party of “hate.”
“It is comments like that that show how out of touch with reality that Scott Heidepriem and the Democratic Party really are,” said South Dakota Republican Party Chairman Karl Adam said. “Most South Dakotans identify themselves as Republican, yet Mr. Heidepriem thinks he’s going to make political points by telling those same people that they are hateful? That’s not just hypocritical, it is indicative of the ‘win at any cost’ attitude that seems to dominate the Democratic Party.”
Adam called on the Democratic Party to publicly reject Heidepriem’s comments. “That is a very offensive statement that was made by one of their leaders,” Adam said. “The party has a choice: stand by these rabid, offensive remarks or make a clear stand against such vile rants. What Mr. Heidepriem and the Democratic Party does will speak volumes about what is truly in their hearts.”
Adam touted the respectful relationship Republican leaders have had with colleagues in the other party. “In the Republican Party, we highly regard a civil tone and we fully embrace the common sense values that have made South Dakota the great place that it is,” he said. “I just wish we would see the same courtesy in return.”
Badlands Blue, a Democratic blog, reported that Heidepriem made the comment last week during the Democratic Party’s McGovern Day fundraiser in Mitchell.

I agree, #1, that some sort of indication that the SDGOP staff is alive and well is long overdue. But I wish they would tackle more substantive stuff. Plus, this is old news.
Absolutely! Heinyprime forgets himself. He’ll need a good chunk of those “haters” to vote for him in 2010 ……….if he plans to win.
Daugaard, Michels, Knudson, Shoenbeck…..make a copy.
One need only look at the statements of people like Bill Stegmeier and his rants about ‘Zionists’ to see what real hate looks like.
Heidepriem is probably the phoniest man in the state. He has built his entire life around his desperate and pathetic quest to be elected to something. People back in the 70s and 80s knew he was just a Pressler-like say-anything, do-anything ambitious pol. When the GOP saw how phony he was and he didn’t win his primary in 1986 to be Congressman, he became the hater of the GOP for not bowing down to him. He’s been on a hateful, revengeful quest ever since to undermine the GOP and finally win the federal office he’s always wanted. The man is just a sad, Nixonian mixture of hate and bitterness.
What does he have to appologize for? The Republican Party is a Party of Hate. He was just being truthful.
Anon 9:27 speaks for much of the base of the Democratic Party. Which is why Heidepriem said it. He knew that calling the GOP the “party of hate” would thrill and stimulate his new base. He was catering to the Daily Kos/Chad Chuldt haters and I’m sure they lapped it up like kittens.
What has the SDGOP been doing lately?
Well the executive director has been busy hiring his girlfried to work for him.
Glad to see that the Chairman finally found time to respond to this item a week after it was news, and a week after even Dick Kelley had time to talk about it. If you can’t respond in time, don’t respond at all.
The GOP hasn’t been able to trot out anyone to verify whether Heidepriem said anything. They’re just rumormongering - passing off claims made by a blogger as the gospel truth without making any attempt to verify whether or not it is the truth.
As much as the GOP would like it to be true that Heidepriem said this, they need to be able to prove it. Either put up the proof or shut up.
I’m so sick of conservatives talking about how progressives are “intolerant” of others’ ideas. There’s a difference between disagreeing with many of the ideas expressed by the SD Republican party and being “intolerant” of them.
Really, it drives me up the wall.
10. It was a Democrat blog that reported it. If it had been a Republican blog, your skepticism would be warranted.
11. The reason the word “intolerance” comes into play is because that is a mantra of the progressive (liberal) community. On a related note, I find it interesting that there is a wide range of thought among the Republican candidates for President, while the Dems are pretty much lock-step lefties. Sounds like the GOP is more tolerant as a party than the Dems.

Adam is right on the money about this. So many liberal Democrats are intolerant of any opinion that differs from their own!
And after four months it’s about time Adam made his do nothing staff do something!
