Early Reports – Huge turnout

I’m hearing early reports out west that it’s a heavy voter turnout for the Rapid City Election. So armchair pundits: what is the biggest cause for it, and who does a big turnout benefit?

KOOIKER OF COURSE!!!
GAME OVER MAN GAME OVER!!!

the cause? big money, big lies, big mike, big Hamilton, big Adelstein, big TIF’s, big land give aways, big Cabela’s, big travel budgets, big negative newspaper adds, big negative flyers, big back room deals

Obviously, and unfortunately, it benefits Hanks a lot.

High turn out clearly favors Hanks, Ellie’s minions can’t survive when a lot of people vote.

Kooiker’s leading with 11 of 25 precincts in 2,074 to 1772.

Now, with 21 of 25 precincts in it’s Hanks 4,056, Kooiker 3,923

Now Hanks 4,631, Kooiker 4,295 – 3 precincts left. Stan might be about to put his puppet in the Mayor’s chair.

as of 8:58 mountain time
9:58 p central time
Hanks leads 4631 or 51.9%
Kooiker 4295 or 48.1%

sorry with 22 of 25 reporting

WOW…KOTA has 96% reporting and Hanks up by only 3 votes!!

The Journal’s slipping.

Hanks won, according to KOTA radio.

Another loss for your crew!

AdelHanks ™ wins

Adelstein’s back, in more ways than one. I don’t believe him for a minute when he said he was not seeking and would not accept an appointment by Rounds to Hanks’ seat. He will be back, mark my words. Way to go, Rapid City. We have been screwed.

This site wants to put an anti-Adelstein spin on everything, so the whining will now begin, and likely carry into next week or at least until you find something else to jump on Adelstein about. The wing-nut postcards and such didn’t sway the voters. This was kind of an obvious pick. Kooiker is too young and too transparently full of ambition to persuade an electorate. It is true that he is far more interested in glad-handing and showboating at public council meetings than he is in doing the real business of government. Perhaps in a few years he will put his public administration degree to use, but my guess is that the use will more likely be as a hired city manager somewhere rather than an elected leader.

Welcome back to the SD House, Tom Hennies!

This pretty much does it for me. I moved to South Dakota six years ago, thinking it was a a reliably conservative Republican place. Well, first the state Legislature, now Rapid City is starting to buy the RINO, “moderate” smokescreen. In short, I’m outta here. Missouri 7th Dist or Ohio 2nd, here I come.

Hennies can’t be appointed – this is still the term consecutive to his last term. He has to wait until the 08 election for the 09 term.

Hopefully the Temper “Stantrum” in over for now.

I hope this teaches the War College not to sound psychotically paranoid.

Someday I won’t feel embarrassed to call myself a conservative.

Someday the word “conservative” will not be synonymous with “neo-cons disconnected from reality.”

There is a reason we were called the party of hate.

PP, your divisive tactics continue to fail.

Anyone who follows the War College regularly can plainly see the spite controlling this site’s rhetoric that splits our party and loses elections.

Wrongo, anono 9:42. The absence makes it alright. He did not stand for election after his 4th term, and he has now had an absence from office. The constitution does not say that the absence has to be a full term. Hennies can serve the rest of this term, and 4 more complete consecutive terms (voters willing) before he’s term limited again.

17: South Dakota has always been Republican. It has never been Conservative. That’s what the wrestling match is about. The surge of conservative Republicans over the last couple decades is an affront and threat to the elite country clubbers who have run the state. Their sandbox has been invaded. They don’t care who is in office as long as it’s “business as usual.” They voted for McGovern, Johnson, Daschle and Herseth.

They like to call themselves moderates. It makes them feel like they stand for something. That’s a lie. They’re just liberal socialists in Republican clothing. Like Linc Chafee, Olympia Snow or Stan Adelstein. The taxpayers of Rapid city had an opportunity to take control of their government and they threw it away. Now they’ll get more back room deals….

Thank you for the explanation, 22. Good points. But now I want outta here more than ever.

I’m a liberal lefty and have lived in Rapid City most my life and I haven’t left here yet. If a extremely conservative republicans leave in droves, that’s alright with me.
