From the Desk of Tom Daschle….
Just in case you needed to spend some money on a Democrat today, because Tom Daschle told you to do so…
Dear XXXX,
Senator Tim Johnson needs our help today. Karl Rove is looking for weakness, and it’s up to us to show Tim’s support is strong and deep. Can you make a contribution today?
I am writing you today because one of our closest friends and allies needs your help.
Last December, Senator Tim Johnson underwent emergency brain surgery. Today, with the love and support of his family, he is making a remarkable recovery.
Tim is more than a colleague to me. He is a dear friend and my partner for nearly 20 years in Congress serving the people of South Dakota. There is no one that I trust more, and no one who works harder on the important issues facing our nation than Tim.
Now Tim needs your help. He is focused, as he should be, on his recovery and his work in the Senate. What he is not able to do is raise money for his reelection race next year. It is up to you to stand up for him instead.

Tim was in great political shape before he suffered the attack on December 13th — he was consistently in the top 10 in the Senate in home-state popularity in the monthly polls done by Survey USA — and I know that his popularity at home in South Dakota is as strong as ever.
But I also have no illusions about what Karl Rove and the National Republican Party will do to him — just as they did to him in 2002, just as they did to me in 2004 — and I am absolutely determined and committed to make sure that he has the financial resources needed to answer the inevitable charges that will be made against him.
This early fundraising deadline is crucial. Karl Rove is looking for weakness. A strong quarterly report will demonstrate the strength of Tim’s campaign, and let Republicans know that if they want to take Tim on, they will be in the fight of their lives.

I was talking to a friend from South Dakota recently about Tim, and he reminded me of the fact that when a farm or ranch family suffers some tragedy, the neighbors get together and harvest the corn or wheat, or tend to the livestock. Folks back home know that we’re all dependent upon each other, and that — in the final analysis — we’re all connected.
I’m asking you to recognize that connection to Tim, just as if you were his neighbor living next door. This will almost certainly be the highest profile Senate race in the country in 2008 — just as it was six years ago — and we can’t let Tim down in this, his real moment of need.

We’re nearly at the deadline for Tim’s next quarterly fundraising report. Let’s make it as strong as possible. Every dollar you donate now will make Tim’s race that much easier in the months ahead.
Tim Johnson has spent a lifetime fighting for all of us. Now he needs your help. Please, stand with him today.
Sincerely,
Tom Daschle
Of course because Tom told us something we’ll believe it. Like he always used to tell South Dakota he was pro-life.

Guess he trying to use up those tax payer funded letterheads!!!
Isn’t that just great or then you know it could also be fro those people who supported him; the ones for the most part he was not telling the truth to!!
Protocol does allow him to use the title of Senator even after leaving the chamber. Even the guy who filled for the remainder of Paul Wellstone’s term is referred to as Senator.
Rumor has it that Johnson is not recovering sufficiently to run again. If Johnson would give a television interview, he would quiet those rumors and stop people from believing that Senator Reid is directing Johnson’s staff.
All this speculation is getting old. We know that Johnson will not be allowed to resign, and if he isn’t doing well, will not be allowed to speak to us. Basically, what we have now in representation from Johnson will likely be all we get until he says he won’t run again, just in time for the next candidate (Steffi of course) to step in and run. And then his money will becomes hers. Good deal for her, huh? Politics stinks at times!
If Johnson is aware of anything, he is aware that he is not helping South Dakota. Earlier predictions by his staff that he would be back to work “soon” have been replaced by “he will be back at work in August”. If he is not back by August, will he have the integrity to resign and allow South Dakotans to be represented once more?
By not insisting on a Johnson interview with the press, the Republicans are the ones acting disabled. Meanwhile, we get all of these “releases” from Johnson’s staff that resemble the ones coming out of Senator Reids office.
I like Tim Johnson personally, but he should resign as a senator. Pure and simple, he is physically incapable of representing South Dakota. I believe that us being represented is too valuable to wait till he is better, assuming he ever is.

The WHITE SPACE IS BACK!!! Arrghhh.
Now on to Tom. When will people realize that he is a has-been, and the Karl “Boogeyman” Rove scare tactic is getting old?
