That’s it? The Argus is worked into a lather over that?
Greg Belfrage has the entire Dan Scott speech posted over at his website, Dakota Watercooler – here’s just a snippet:
After reading the entire thing, I’m left with an odd question in my head. “That’s it?”That’s what generated several news stories and the snide Randall Beck editorial?
Seeing the part that originally generated outrage in its original context really doesn’t seem so outrageous. Sure, the “get out of our way” was a bit of chest puffing, but it was also done in the context of how the changes in the Sioux Falls community have positively affected the state, and not in an” us-versus-the-rest-of you” vein.
Which makes the Argus’ negative coverage of and the event and reaction to the comments even more puzzling.

This is exactly why NOTHING the Argus Leader “reports” should be believed. They are agenda-setting liberals who are simply there to attack conservatives and promote their liberal agenda. Dan Scott should be a hero to us all for sticking it to them for their arrogance.
Everyone should remember how this scandal started. At a breakfast, a man make a crack about how bad the Argus Leader is and the whiny publisher, Arnie Garson, stormed out and vowed revenge on the speaker, Dan Scott. Then the Argus newsroom went to work and smeared Scott without reporting his anti-Argus Leader remark. And then Randell Beck, the editor, started slamming Scott. Now the full story has been told about how the Argus practices agenda/vendetta/destroy-our-critics journalism. The Argus Leader’s bias has been proven many times before and now their must be consequences.
Contact Gannett headquarters and demand that the liberal idiots like Garson, Beck, Lalley, Kranz, and Baldwin who run the Argus be fired for smearing another honorable public servant. And tell Gannett how these bozos are destroying a corporate profit center of theirs. The Gannett execs will listen to a bottom line argument about how their newspaper is shedding readers like fur.
Also, start reading the New Media, like this website, which has billboards all over town:
If only mysiouxfalls.com can make a go of it. Wouldn’t Sioux Falls have something to be proud of from a print media perspective?
SF’s residents and businesses please support and advertise with that site.
The Argus USED to be a liberal rag, we expected it and took it with a large grain of salt. They had their viewpoint, but also had some standards and tried to run the operation according to some understanding of the ideals of good journalism.
Under Beck, it has devolved into nothing more than a printed coffee-table bitch session. They call people names. They make no pretense of seeking balance in a story. People think they’re still a liberal rag because Republicans are a frequent target. Frankly, I think it’s because we’re in power. If the Dems ran the show, the Argus would be calling them names.
They’ve adopted the oldest play in politics: try to make your self more powerful by attacking others, exploit people’s fears and never give your target credit when they do something right.
All in all, the exact same thing they accuse Republicans of doing. They don’t a philosophy anymore, just a lust for power.

I don’t even think that the “get out of our way” was too chest-puffing. I enjoyed his speech, and I think it was mostly well-expressed. Sioux Falls should be applauded for their triumphs and they should be given encouragement for further growth, not hindrance.
