It’s Fulton
Neil Fulton will be the new chief of staff to Gov. Rounds come November. Yes, THAT Neil Fulton, the Pierre lawyer who was campaign treasurer for Democrat Stephanie Herseth and who personally testified against the abortion ban legislation a few year ago. He replaces Rob Skjonsberg who’s jumping to Jeff Broin’s POET energy company in two months.
No, ye of the conservative end of the political spectrum, chiefs of staff don’t need Senate confirmation in South Dakota…

From what I have heard Neil is very smart and intelligent..top notch….but with the Herseth thing…interesting…maybe the Gov needs a strong arm on both side to help pass some major upcoming issues in the next session???hmmmm
Put the Gov’s power on one side and a person in place the the Dems may respect…..it could actually get some things done in Pierre.???
Good for Gov. Mike to be open minded enough to get a good person in place no matter what side he may flip flop on.???????
PP:
Maybe Gov. Rounds joined the MAINstream Coalition when you weren’t looking. Better let up on it.
I don’t know Neil but he sounds like a good choice. Like my buddy Mitch Krebs at press secretary, maybe Mike just likes to hire good, competent people rather than ideologues. I think that’s refreshing. . . I feel a blog post coming on. . . Hmmmm.

This is an outstanding appointment. Neil fulton is extremely bright, hard working, and honest. He has a solid understanding of the arcane workings of state government. He knows almost all of the legislators, and almost all of them like and respect him.
This guy defines straight shooter. His word is good.
An A++++ decision by rounds to recruit him; an A+++ win for good government that fulton agreed to take the job.
And no, i dont work for rounds and never did, but i do know fulton and he is top shelf.
I believe Neil Fulton was a registered Democrat up until a few years ago, Nov of 2003, when he registered as an independent. He supported Daschle, Kerry and of course Herseth in ‘04.
It sure will make for an interesting legislative session in January. Let’s see, Gov. Rounds and his chief of staff meeting with the Senate and House Republicans leadership to talk about legislation, potential consequences if passed or defeated and what approach to take to pass or defeat.
Afterward, Mr Fulton just happens to talk to the Democrat leadership on what’s happening Wow!
So much for the conservatives taking back the party. The top staffer for the de facto leader of the party is far to the left of the MAINstream coalition. I doubt we’re going to see any whip cracking in the next three years.

Neil is a brilliant choice. He’s intelligent, well spoken, and highly regarded in Pierre.
