Contact Rep. Joel Dykstra, (605)  310-3398

Sioux Falls, SD – State Representative and U.S. Senate candidate Joel D. Dykstra (R-Canton) believes that South Dakota can play an important part in a federal initiative to produce 20 percent of our energy through wind power.  This afternoon at 2 p.m., Dykstra will moderate discussion amongst a panel of experts at the “Wind Energy & Transmission: the South Dakota Landscape” forum at the Sioux Falls Convention Center.

The 20 percent wind energy goal is part of the President’s Advanced Energy Initiative.  Panelists include representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Intertribal Council on Utility Policy, and other national and regional experts.

Dykstra served on the planning committee that put together the two-day conference which is expected to draw about 300 people and address everything from the reasons South Dakota offers remarkable opportunities for wind power, to transmission constraints and potential solutions in an effort to facilitate more wind energy in our region.

South Dakota has incredible wind power potential and represents an important part of the national solution to greenhouse gas emissions,” Dykstra said.  “But our federal government must establish a cross-country transmission corridor to deliver power from new generating facilities and renewable resources in the Midwest to high load and high populations centers on the coasts.”

Dykstra was tapped to participate in the planning and implementation of the conference because of his experience and legislative priorities.  He enjoyed a 20 year career in the international oil and gas exploration and production industry, including nine years of global business experience working and living in Europe. In 2004, he served on Governor Rounds’ Energy Task force, and was House prime sponsor of legislation that created South Dakota’s Energy Infrastructure Authority.

Dykstra has championed legislation to promote development of both traditional and renewable energy sources in South Dakota and to enhance South Dakota’s opportunities to develop into a major power exporter.

Did Jole spel wynd frm okaa this tymm?

Is Dykestra now mimicking Frank Kloucek? Frank has held meetings and organized trips on wind energy for a couple years. Joel isn’t doing this because he’s running for Unites State Senate, is he? Or is it just State Senate?

Dikestra? On his best day, he is no Frank Kloucek.

I knew Frank Kloucek. Frank Kloucek was a friend of mine. Myster Dikestra, you’re no Frank Kloucek.

Should that ad have said “Paid by Dykstra for Senate”? Is this a State PUC/US Senate Candidate effort?

Oops, 4. was posted by me.

If this campaign is about who has done more for renewable energy, Dykstra is in a world of trouble. Dykstra served on a panel, sponsored legislation in Pierre to create a new bueracracy, and spent his career in the oil industry – which has been openly hostile to South Dakota renewables like ethanol and biodiesel.

Johnson will have a long list of accomplishments from his work on both the appropriations committee and the energy committee. He’s never been on the side of oil, and has always supported ethanol and biodiesel. Dykstra will say that he “moderated” a meeting.

I can just hear the campaign slogan now — “Joel Dykstra – A Strong Moderator for South Dakota…”

Dykstra didn’t even put this together, all he was asked to do (likely because he’s a candidate in desperate need of exposure) was to moderate a panel at the event that was “co-sponsored by 12 political and energy organizations, including the National Wind Coordinating Collaborative, of which [Gary] Hanson is a member,” according to the AP Story.

Sounds like he’s trying to take a little more credit than he’s due…

Interesting that PP is promoting a release in which Dykstra is talking about positioning South Dakota to be part of the national “solution greenhouse gas emissions.”

When Herseth-Sandlin talks about positioning South Dakota to address greenhouse gas emissions, PP says that it’s evidence that she’s out of touch. But when Dykstra talks about it’s good economic development for South Dakota.

Or I just said “Hey, I got this in my e-mail box.”

Thank goodness that Dykstra is no Frank Kloucek! #3 you are so right, he is no Kloucek!!

Frank is a pretty nice guy, but he introduces so many bills and resolutions but hardly any get passed because they don’t make sense.

Couple years ago he introduced about 14 bills and I don’t think any were passed because he doesn’t think them through before dropping them in the hopper.

Frank works hard but runs in circles, puts in a lot of time to accomplish nothing. Very good at PR though, always introducing this person or group, great for reelection, but no substance.

Again thank goodness Joel is no Frank.

Sandlin’s positioning of South Dakota to address greenhouse gasses consists mostly of carbon credits, which allows big corporations to continue to pollute by paying for it, and also on cutting back the energy we use.

We need to find new sources of energy whether it is tapping the hugh tar sand oil deposites, ANWR, offshore drilling, wind or nuclear.

The technology to develop and use these is known and proven to be safe.

9, you are quite correct.

But these comments leave me a little confused. Is Frank going to be putting forth wind this year?

11. yep, got yer six

It’s all very commendable trying to reduce greenhouse gasses and trying to save the planet, but does any of this make that much of a difference when China and the far east are churning out pollutants and gasses like there is no tomorrow?
