SDWC Endorsement for GOP National Committeeman: Dana Randall

When it’s time to vote for National Committeeman at convention this year, it’s a choice I’m forced to ponder for a while as I have to select between Ron Schmidt and Dana Randall.

Ron, I’ve known long ago since my days of youth. I grew up with his son, Ethan, and we all lived in the same neighborhood. I volunteered on his US Senate campaign, and would do it again in a heartbeat. Ron has served the GOP in the position as National Committeeman through 3 Governors. That’s a track record that not many people can boast.

Dana has been a friend of more recent times, but I also know him as the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He’s demonstrated it time and again. If there’s a new candidate, Dana is one of the first people who will go out of his way to help, whether they’re in his area or not.

It’s a tough choice for me, because I’m proud to call them both friends.

But when it comes down to the ballot, as a delegate, I have to choose one or the other.

These party positions are a reward for service. But they’re also an opportunity to breathe new life into the party. For those who started their service to the party in the grassroots, it shows that our party is not led by those with a checkbook. It’s led by those who get out and do the work.

And with all due respect and thanks for over a decade of service in the same position by Ron – I believe it’s time to give someone else a chance. I believe Dana Randall deserves the opportunity to show us what he can do.

If PP is for Dana Randall, then I am too.

This is fine, but why not be honest and talk about how Ron worked for RINOs like Fuller?

As a delegate, you do “have to choose” one or the other, but you do not have to make a public endorsement. Similarly, you do not have to make a proclamation implying that one candidate is only in office because he and his supporters have big checkbooks. If it were a matter of truly choosing between two good friends, the classy (using a term you are so fond of throwing around) thing to do would be to make that choice quietly make your vote, and move on, not make a public abandonment and underhanded attack by implication of some for whom you claim to have so much respect.

I totally agree with the above post. Just because you have the forum, Pat, it doesn’t allow for a personal endorsement of your candidate, and a shadow attack on your “good friend”. Ron Schmidt is the epitomy of a “good Republican” … no, a “great Republican” in the vein of Ronald Reagan – one of his heroes. He will be greatly missed by those who know and respect him for his impecable honesty, values, and dedication to the Republican Party. I wish Dana well, but to say it’s time to take Ron out and “give someone else a chance”, is like saying its time to take a champion race horse out of the Kentucky Derby because he’s already proven his greatness. I find your comments to be tactless, inappropriate, irresponsible, and lacking in foresight and experience.
