When it comes time to demonstrate class, there’s one person in Rapid City who knows how to bring it to the gutter.
I’m so absolutely appaled by this, that I can scarcely believe it as truth. But, my sources were direct witnesses to it. And they were left reeling in an uncomfortable moment caused by someone without a lick of class.
The West River Republican Victory office was just opened recently, and Republicans came from all around to celebrate it’s opening. Including one of them who is running as an independent.
It was related to me that Elli Schwiesow, former State GOP Vice Chair, former Republican Women Chair, and a host of other Republican related things brought cookies for the occasion, even though she’s running as an independent candidate in the District 32 Senate Race.
And what happened?
Despite showing up in congratulations and fellowship for the occasion, I’m told that in front of God and everyone, she was rudely escorted from the premesis by none other than the office’s landlord himself, Stan Adelstein.
When the opportunity afforded itself to be the bigger person, it sounds like the man who funded democrats last election decided to show his petty side at a public function.
Shame on Stan.
He showed a lot of class in his actions. Too bad it was all “low.”

This inhospitality and exclusion coming from a man who just brought an exhibit to Rapid City featuring the Pope, advancing the idea of love and caring among all faiths and people? Stan’s only religion is money and power, with a special emphasis of hatred toward Elli. I hope this story grows legs, it needs to be told.
Hmm, I notice PP’s post and some posters are taking a backhanded potshot at Democrats. Like there is nothing more evil in the world than supporting democrats.
Which is why I am so happy that I will support Katus and that he will win. He is truly the best person for the job.
Maybe they didn’t want any cookies that day.
Were they oatmeal raisin, or what?
And maybe they only wanted people who were running on the Republican ticket at the meeting. That was the idea, right?
And in what way was she “rudely escorted.” PP?
In my circles, pointing a finger at the door and saying “get your tired, phoney, sanctimonious ass out of here” would be rude.
And by contrast, an escort with a minimum of comment would be quite polite, actually.
But then, we plebeian Dems are admittedly far more coarse and less socially adept than you refined, elitist, Repubican, frat-boy aristocrats, I suppose.
Admitted Plebian Bill Fleming surely must know that an “Opening” is far different from a closed “meeting”; it’s an open-house of sorts, even YOU could have attended, Bill, sans the cookies.
3:22 I hear ya, anon.
But if I’d have shown up with my usual batch of Alice B. Toklas Brownies, and my gObama badge, in my Daschle for Senate sweatshirt, I would have understood why I might have been shown the door, you know?
(I can hear Stan now. ” Billy (or maybe even “Mr. Fleming”), why don’t you come back tomorrow? … but oh, say, can I take one of those brownies for xxxyyy (name withheld)?)
…I’m thinking maybe the Gov might secretly want one.
Either that or Newland was on his way over.
…or maybe Jerimiah was lobbying for one.
Or Todd.
Or Jody.
Or even Nemic…
Who knows?
BF
p.s. “…of all the things I’ve lost, I miss my mind the most.”
Bill, which category does Stan fit into? plebian Dem or refined, elistist, frat boy Republican Aristocrat?
Stan tells me he is a Republican and I believe him.
He has always operated in what I consider to be a different social circle that mine, but I attribute that not so much to politics as to the difference between us in age, aspiration and avocation.
There has never been a time when I thought Stan was anything but one of South Dakota’s finest, proud, hard working Republicans.
And I respect him for that, even as I have always been (since age 22) —and will most likely will always be— a Democrat.
Because, like my favorite cartoon character, Jessica Rabbit says, “I’m not really bad, I’m just drawn that way.”
Bill Flemming, sorry buddy, but you have issues. As a friend, I would like you to talk to someone who can help. Stan has “all about me agendas” and if you cannot see it, you need to get help. Most of the reading public do not care about your Jessica Rabbit…it just indicates once more that you are hallucinatory and in need of help. Most people humor you; it is time to call a “spade a spade”. You are out there somewhere and it needs to be addressed. I feel sorry for you and your brainwashed ideas…you seem to have a Stan fixation…why? Please DO NOT answer in your fashion of typing something in and then saying something right away as a follow up. I am truly tired of people humoring you.
Isn’t the Victory office for people who want Republicans to win? It seems Elie is not one of those people. Miss “I skipped the republican primary to run as an independent so as to split the republican vote and make it harder for the republican candidate to win” doesn’t really belong at the Victory office.
I don’t know this, but I suspect that Stan Adelstein probably provided the office free or well below market price to the party, and if so, then some respect is owed to him.
How passive-aggressive is it of Elie to show up at Stan’s building at the Victory kickoff knowing Stan would be there and knowing that her sole purpose of running as an independent is to prevent Stan from enjoying victory. She wasn’t really there to bring cookies – she was there to antagonize one person by her presence.
Elie is a petty person. She is a small person. Her smile is fake. Her motives are impure. She was a skunk at the Victory garden party, and was treated as a skunk should treated. If Gordon Howie had been there he would have sent that skunk home to be with Jesus and eaten her.
10:33, the last paragraph was icky and unnecessary. You sound like BF.
I don’t know who the heck you think you are, but you must be a FOS, because you don’t know Ellie. There was no reason why she shouldn’t be there.
The problem here is that Stan writes checks for stuff (and lets everybody know it) and so everybody’s gonna like him. He needs to learn that CASH does not equal class. COURTESY does. And if this story is true, he showed none of the latter.
I am always amazed at how many people can say the nastiest things and then sign them “annonymous”. The post regarding the skunk comments couldn’t be more off the mark. To begin with, I know Elli. There is nothing fake about her motives….. or her smile, for that matter. She is one of the most genuinely nice people I know. There certainly is plenty of “smell” in this situation, but it resides with the author of the skunk comments and the behaviour of others. For the record, if I had been there, I would have chosen to leave if Elli were not welcome and treated with respect.
Stan is just upset that he can’t walk into this seat and run over Tom Katus like he expected to. Stan’s a bully, and Tom Katus now realizes that.
If only Elli was a democrat, then stan would have welcomed her in with open arms.
I am only guessing, but I believe Stan Adelstein also owns the property next door (duplex rental) and there is an Obama for president sign in the window,,,Wonder how hw feels about that ??
10:11 Let me get this straight.
You’re signing on as Anonymous, telling me you’re my friend, then accusing me of being insane and hallucinatory even as you presume to tell me when, what, and in which format and creative style I should make posts to a blog?
Are you nuts?
Look, if you don’t like what I write, who cares?
Don’t read it.
End of discussion.

Gordon Howie, I didn’t write #13
but I did ask Tony Dean
if you ate that badger.
Did you?
Your pal,
BF
The “Elli haters” don’t know this woman, obviously. Do they know her family helped build a hospital in impoverished Liberia because they felt a burden for the people? They then brought a young, black Liberian man to Rapid City to live with them, paid for his education, helped him through a life-threatening illness. They always introduced him as their son, Martin. He is now married and just graduated as a physician’s assistant. Elli and her husband also brought Martin’s sister here, where she was educated and now gainfully employed as a hair stylist. Elli saw another need and filled it when she gave her own car to a single mom who had no transportation. Elli has made a difference in this world, quietly, unlike her opponent. Her motivation is love, not publicity. I only tell these stories because I know Elli won’t, and I want you to know her like I do.
The Elli haters are directing their hatespeech at her because of her conservative pro-life philosophy. So they attack her on a personal level. Whatever happened to the civil discourse that liberals like to tout?
2:44 and 7:14
Are you kidding? Have you heard the whisper campaign Elli’s got going? I mean come on. Talk about hate speech… give us a break.
Prove it BF. What is Elli whispering?
And if she is whispering, are you saying that two wrongs make a right?
Why can’t people just challenge her positions instead of attacking her personally?
And 2:44 makes a good point. Elli does generous things without fanfare. Unlike Stan, who makes damn sure that the whole world knows everytime he writes a check.
Eight thirty two:
What’s to prove?
It’s all over this website and any others who will take the bait.
PP is a prime, (if oftentimes ignorant) practitioner. (i.e. He thinks it’s cute to commit political murder, I guess. Like a computer game or something.)
Blogmore recently had to kill a post from “Larry.”
Did you see it?
There are more on the way, I’ll bet dollars to donuys.
Just note that the reason they call them “whisper” campaigns is
precisely because they can’t be traced or properly accredited.
That just means the people who are doing it are ninja style character assassins.
It’s not hard to understand, just hard to accept that people who claim the hold the moral high ground are doing it.
Especially hard for the innocent faithful, may I please add.
And I do so because many of these are good friends and family.
What the world are “ninja style assassins”??? Some urge to say that ??
… I know a person back in the day that said similar comments…back to the day to Vietnam..he sat in overcoat and fur cap on a 95 degree day outside in the sun and laughed and laughed while people pitied him and did not know the degree of his pain or affliction.
We should all pity ourselves for not understanding that and for not rising to the occasion to tell him that he needed help.
He was classified as schizo.
If the SDGOP leased office space from this cretin, even if he “probably provided the office free or well below market price to the party,” It is such a blunder. I will NEVER contribute to the SDGOP ever again!
James,,Thunes office 2 doors down is also Adelstein property. Adelstein is the political equivalent of fibromyalgia – hard to diagnose, no cure, hurts bad all over,,,,,
So last election cycle Adelstein supported Katus, and now he’s running against him? Last cycle he was Dem essentially and now he’s back to Rep? That on top of his childish behavior above. If he didn’t have money, he’d be sliding on his backside all the way to wherever he popped his head up from.
Go, Elli!
#25, BF will likely argue that the wingnut mailing was true and therefore not character assassinatin. It’s all in the perception. If your friends are passionately pro-life conservatives, many of us would consider that a good thing. The carefully selected recipients of the mailing did not think that is a good thing. Even in a local election where it probably won’t matter.
BF, you say: “And I do so because many of these are good friends and family.” I am unclear on that. You are doing what? And how are friends and family connected to this?
Complaining about the whisper campaign. I’d put “Larry’s” post up here (I saved it for proof) but I don’t really want to part of anyone’s having to read such garbage again. (See my post 24… sorry if I was unclear.)
As for friends and family, many of them are good, pro-life conservatives who are appalled that people who supposedly share their values are behaving in such a manner. (i.e. they are hearing the whispers and are disgusted and offended by them.)
BF — Just curious, were your pro-life friends offended by the “Something you should know” campaign piece? They should have been, because it painted some pro-life conservative people as borderline evil.
The fact that a councilman counted them as among his friends was reason enough, according to the mailing, not to vote for him. Doesn’t that imply that there is something bad about them?
And you didn’t answer the question. Avoided it, as usual, with a question.
Were any of your pro-life conservative friends (all one or two of them???) offended?
No, none of them were offended (by the flier). Why would they be? They know who they are and aren’t trying to pretend they are something they’re not.
Last I checked, there’s nothing offensive about being honest.
p.s. there are scores, and perhaps over a hundred of the, I have a lot of conservative friends and family. Sorry to disappoint, but hey, I’m a friendly guy with a ver big, predominantly Catholic family.
And now how about you? Tell us about yourself. Otherwise, it’s easy to presume that you are a despicable, anonymous, whisper-campaigning slime-slinging, dastardly coward. So tell us why we should refrain from making such a presumption. And thanks in advance.
So because I must be anonymous, for good reasons which are none of your darn business, I have to prove I am not any of the things you mention? I’m not those things. I dont’t spread rumors, despicable or otherwise, here or elsewhere. Thanks for putting me in that category just because I asked a pointed question. Real tolerant and liberal of you.
As for your comment 39: “They know who they are and aren’t trying to pretend they are something they’re not.” That makes no sense, unless you are saying that Kooiker was targeted because he pretended he was not pro-life and conservative.
No, he didn’t. That’s why I fail to understand why pro-life extremists found the mailer so offensive, unless they are in denial that their views, as compared to the rest of society, are indeed extreme.
Look, I am extreme in some of my views too.
So what?
Where’s the insult in admitting that?
Why try to pretend you’re mainstream or moderate when you know you’re not and in fact constantly argue your position against those who are?
Sorry, I don’t get it.
And as for posting anonymously, it’s not my fault that you make yourself and your sincerity suspect by doing so.
Maybe you shouldn’t pick fights when you clearly have chosen to tie both hands behind your back.
Interesting discussion in the last few comments about the company one keeps and how they portray themselves. Now I don’t feel so bad about being afraid of an Obama presidency because the people he fraternizes with are extreme…and far more dangerous.
42: “That’s why I fail to understand why pro-life extremists found the mailer so offensive, unless they are in denial that their views, as compared to the rest of society, are indeed extreme.”
Do you consider your pro-life conservative friends and family “extreme”? When, in your view, if a pro-life conservative not extreme?
I hope someone who was there can tell us all the names of the “real men” who just ate their cookies and watched this happen !!! I heard rhoden was one of them,,,, who else ?? cowards!!
sounds like she had it coming to her. showing up to the republican CANDIDATES hq univited and knowing that Stan would be there. i heard from reliable source that she knew full well that Stan would be there. in fact, she had been told not to attend by seveal people, but, being the headstrong, overzealous ultra-conservative that she is, she shows up anyway. i hope it didnt set the tone for the upcoming election. we should be focusing on the real issues, the economy, education, etc., and not some petty dispute amongst children

IF it is true, then Stan is not only low-class, but also a hypocrite. I’ll bet if a Dem showed up, he would have welcomed him/her. And what the hell is the West River GOP doing renting space from him? Wasn’t there SOMEPLACE ELSE they could go?
