SDCAC/Open and Clean Government Shot down at the GOP Convention. And they’re not very happy about it.
From my e-mail box:
SOUTH DAKOTA REPUBLICAN PARTY SAYS THEY SUPPORTOPEN AND CLEAN GOVERNMENT BUT VOTE THE OPPOSITE
SD GOP WENT ON RECORD TODAY DEFENDING GOVERNMENT SECRECY, TAXPAYER FUNDS BEING USED IN POLITICAL PROCESS, AND WASTEFUL GOVERNMENT SPENDING BY OPPOSING INITIATIVE #10
Oacoma, SD – In a traditional establishment move the SD GOP opposed the common sense conservative reform initiative, the South Dakota Open and Clean Government Act, preferring the status quo of closed government, wasteful government spending, and the appearance of corruption.
“It is a sad day for conservatives across South Dakota and America. The SD GOP hammered a resounding nail in the Iron Curtain of government secrecy and corrupt wasteful spending on no-bid contracts,” said Lee Breard, Executive Director of the South Dakota Conservative Action Council.
“The same party’s leader, Governor Rounds, earlier this year vetoed common sense transparency legislation, HB 1233; that had received overwhelming support from the state legislature. It seems that it has become the policy of the SD GOP to support closed government and fight efforts of transparency,” said Breard. “The party did submit an amendment that states the governor is working on his own transparency website. I ask the question where’s the beef, why wait; we had a great opportunity in HB 1233?”
South Dakota Republicans need to understand this opposition resolution was brought forward by a telecommunications lobbyist and supported by the liberal Obama-backing teachers union SDEA and many other taxpayer-funded employees, contract holders, and lobbyists.
The South Dakota Open and Clean Government Act would simply place these common sense reforms into law:
* Take taxpayer funds out of the political process like lobbying for more and higher taxes.
* Limit the wasteful corrupt process of no-bid or direct bid contracting.
* Require a transparency website for all government contracts over $500.
* Prevent taxpayer funded employees from immediately taking high paying jobs from the same corporations that hold contracts with the state.
* Place the same ethical standards we require on federal contractor’s contributions at the state level.Conservatives across South Dakota should be encouraged to rally behind the Open and Clean Government Act. The South Dakota Conservative Action Council believes in conservative reform through citizen activism.
Actually, many of us supported the resolution opposing the measure – including yours truly – because it’s just like last years’ JAIL-4-Judges act; poorly written with the measure’s supporters ignoring the clear results of their words being put in action. This was the first shot across the measure’s bow, with many more yet to come.
Also.. Did I miss the part in this release where Lee Breard discloses where all this out of state money is coming from to fund this measure? I didn’t think so.

These Initiative 10 guys are a joke and anything but real conservatives.
Hey, Lee, congratulations on completely ruining your chances of ever finding gainful employment in this state. First the Whalen debacle and now your scorched earth attempt to defeat the anti-10 resolution. Way to make enemies of the very conservatives that you need to build your CAC group, bud.
