From my mailbox – Joel Dykstra says he’s going to be at Dakotafest. Now it’s up to Johnson.
From my e-mail box:
Dykstra Accepts Invitation to United States Senate Candidate Forum at Dakotafest August 20
Sioux Falls, SD – Republican Senate Candidate Joel Dykstra has accepted the invitation to participate in a United States Senate Candidate Forum scheduled for Wednesday, August 20 at Dakotafest in Mitchell. The hour long event is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. at the South Dakota Pavilion.
Dykstra said he is looking forward to the forum as it will be his first opportunity during the election season to participate in an open issue-oriented dialogue with Senator Tim Johnson. “The Dakotafest Candidate Forum offers a venue for me to articulate my positions and demonstrate the choice that South Dakota voters have when selecting their next U.S. Senator,” he stated.
Dykstra said the key issues among South Dakota voters include: the current energy crisis, stabilization of the economy, as well as the high cost of health insurance and access to health care. “All of these are of particular concern to agriculture producers and rural residents. These issues have been facing the industry for many years, but have not been addressed by the incumbents in Washington. It’s time for someone to step up and actually offer some solutions,” he said.
The U.S. Senate Candidate Forum is an election year tradition for the state’s largest outdoor farm show and has typically been voter’s first chance to see an exchange between the candidates for office. Todd Benz, Dakotafest Show Manager, said they are pleased to continue the tradition. “This is a chance for the political candidates to talk about the agricultural topics that are important to South Dakota’s farmers and ranchers and we’re pleased to be able to host this discussion,” he said.
The forum will be broadcast live on WNAX Radio.

I’m sure Tim will have a number of questions about SDAPV for Joel. I’m looking forward to Joel’s answers.

If Sen. Johnson is well enough to shoot a campaign commercial at Homestake, like he did today, then he should be well enough to debate at DakotaFest, Mt Rushmore, KELO, Meet the Press, SDPB, and to do it often enough to prove to us his fitness to serve and to advocate for our state.
On another note, are there any third-party candidates running?
Epp – perhaps you are not familiar with candidate forums, but typically the audience members or the moderator ask the questions. You’ll have to have your little Spanish Inquisition later.
Todd,
SDAPV??
South Dakota Airport Visits??
I will take the day off to go too.
Just out of curiousity–and so I can wear a Joel sticker and clap & cheer at the appropriate times.
I hope there’s a debate and all the candidates come. They work for us and owe us their presence if they want us to hire them. No excuses. It’s like a job interview – if you don’t show up for the interview, don’t expect to be hired!
Todd by your comments I am thinking you are all for Tim debating ? Good I am looking forward to seeing and hearing Tim at MANY debates. He owes it to South Dakota and as all are saying he can handle the work.
I think that #7 unknowingly hit it right on the head.
Typically, there are questions from the audience. However, the Johnson protection team will not let that happen this year. He’ll show up for the debate, but his handlers will have long before told the people in Mitchell what the “rules” of the debate are going to be.
Everything will be scripted. The candidates will know the questions in advance. No audience questions. No give and take between the candidates.
If Johnson is scripted, he’s far more able to communicate than if he has to go off the cuff. So his people are going to bully the organizers of any debate on the rules. They either play by the Johnson rules, or he doesn’t show up, plain and simple.
They will win that battle part of the time. Especially if the organizers are liberals, or when the organizers of the event are desperate to have a debate, cause the Johnson protection team will simply tell them to expect a no-show otherwise.
Come on Tim and crew, prove me wrong! Get up there and show the people of South Dakota you have what it takes to do the job.
We only have three voices in DC we need all of them working.
If you are unable to perform the duties, humbly step aside and let someone else have a turn.
And Tim is the only one working for us in D.C. Stephanie is busy voting with her fellow Republicans, and Thune is finding ways to help out his former lobbyist clients, Hospitals and Railroads while water runs dry in Eastern SD.
As for SDAPV, that was a little organization Mr. Dykstra ran, seems they FORGOT to pay taxes.
Go ahead and google it, lots of fun stories about a Federal Tax Lein against SDAPV. Yeah, just the guy I want as Senator, at least he would have something in common with John Thune, trying to screw the government out of tax dollars for their buddies.
Joel Dykstra’s time with SDAPV ended in August of 2004 and the tax lien deals with the company’s 2005 tax return…
Yes, I think Tim should debate Joel. And I think he will. I have no inside information one way or the other, that’s just what I think. Joel just better be careful for what he wishes for. Tim usually shines in debates. Do they need to debate ten time? Five times? Three times? I’d say a “reasonable” number of times. That’s how we lawyers roll.

This is the longest thread I’ve seen about Dykstra on the internets so far, it just might bump him up in the polls another point! 32% Here we come!!!

Well folks it is time for Tim to show us if he is capable of handling the job.
The press won’t be able to coddle him any more.
I will take the day off to go watch.
