BREAKING NEWS! Johnson to decline ALL debates!
I just got a heads up that Tim Johnson is not going to be declining not just a debate at Dakotafest, but the campaign will not debate at all!
This is pretty convincing evidence that Senator Johnson is not up to the job, and that while his staff can carry him just so far in an effort to save their jobs, there are some things on which they just cannot fake the job description.
Unfortunately, Johnson missed the deadline to withdraw. Because if he’s not up to the rigors of the campaign, as well as the duties of a US Senator, then as sad as it is to say, he should not be running.
Period.

“It’s a tactical decision to prevent an unfunded challenger from getting free press from debates.”
Bull—.
Best spin I’ve ever seen.
The BREAKING NEWS (and good news) is that SD voters are smarter than that. This tactic will backfire, big time.
There is no way that Dykstra will be able to get his mug on television now, given his inability to raise a dime this cycle.
This is certainly a tactical decision. And it pretty much ruins Dykstra’s only chance to get some media attention.
Let the GOP whining begin…
He just needs to run one ad.
Johnson’s inability to talk to people. Declining debates, Avoiding the Press(from the Farm Bill round table in Aberdeen). It may not be much now. But by the time of the election, there will be VOLUMES of examples!
Are there still forums both are being invited to? If so, I would think Dykstra should be there and take the questions. They can always say we don’t know what Senator Johnson thinks about this.
Even when Senator Daschle was running against a lady from Madison, if my memory serves me correctly, he debated her. Senatorial candidates debating is a tradition that goes back a long way. I would think this is an indication Johnson is not up to the rigors of debating. When he speaks without a script, he sounds terrible. Maybe some voters don’t care. Maybe others do. The bottom line is he is taking away from the voters of SD the opportunity to decide whether he seems to be able to do the job.

This BREAKING NEWS that is featured on the Argus website doesn’t “prove” that “Johnson is not up to the job.” It’s a tactical decision to prevent an unfunded challenger from getting free press from debates. I’d advise any other candidate running against someone in Dykstra’s position to do the same thing.
The decision as to whether or not Tim is up to the job is not up to any blogger, commentator or journalist - it’s a decision that rests solely with the voters. That’s the way our democracy works.
And I’ll bet dollars to donuts that the voters will decide that Tim Johnson has earned, and is capable of continuing to serve, ably in the United States Senate.
