Palin not only knocks it out of the park, she takes the hide off of the ball.
The Democrats are in trouble.
Palin’s speech last night was incredible. Not just for the reaction to it on the day after, but because she effectively drew a line in the sand for the democrats and the media, and told them “don’t tread on me.”
She was not a pick such as Dan Quayle’s ill fated stint many years ago. I think her own comparison to Harry Truman is the closest that you can come. But I don’t know that even that is accurate. She’s that good.
I don’t know that the television monitor could effectively pick up the energy and raw emotion that she invoked in the crowd. It was unlike anything I’d ever experienced in my life. The room was as charged as if she had been the presidential candidate herself.
She was funny. She was direct. And she superseded any expectations that the audience might have had.
Again, the Democrats are in trouble.

Does it give you and pause, whatsoever, that she lied about the Bridge to Nowhere?
First being for it, then after it was named “The Bridge to Nowhere” she was suddenly against it?
And she had the balls to say she said, “No thanks”?
Are you at all bothered that her “abstinence only” program didn’t even work where it would have been easily applied?
Aren’t you somewhat concerned that the American public is finding out about her, right along with McCain and his staffers because vetting was “complete” in less than 24 hours before she was offered the job?
In trouble? Maybe, maybe not.
You were at the convention which is more “echo chamber” than “window into the soul” of the electorate. Much of her speech was simply a laundry list of mean spirited Republican attacks written by hacks for whomever McCain would chose to deliver it. We’re to a point where the VP candidate needs to show a little more substance and inspiration than a “pit bull with lipstick” which are things Palin failed to deliver. And, I’m betting most people outside the convention hall noticed.
Oh, never mind.
Who wants to be bothered with glaring obviousness?
She sure is cute in her delivery.
Pat, I know you vested idealogues have to take that official stance, but try and think about it rationally once you come down from convention euphoria.
By the way, I am sure the press is shaking in their inkwells
Tgrind. You’re not worth the response and the laundry list that you went through could easily apply to your former favorite Hillary - i.e. White Water, bla, bla, bla. Oh, well, I got a couple minutes. Hillary and her husband’s legacy is really no different than the idiot Chicago Mayor who just got whacked at sentencing. Nonetheless, Palin was very impressive and that was her FIRST major speech. Anyone can be under ethics investigations, your entire party invented it. The rest of your “obviousness” dicta is pure garbage and immaterial. She was impressive and again, doesn’t have that screachy wicked witch from the west yell that your buddy Hillary has. One thing that I’ll agree with you, she did look cute in her delivery. To bad there’s nothing like that on your side of the isle. Your tacky jealousy of that fact is very humorous.
Anon: 12:35 if you didn’t see or hear any substance in her speech, you weren’t listening or were listening with demo pissed off ears.
tgrin
Maybe you should go on over to Todd’s site where the two of you can pout together. It will help his hit count.
Tgringo, Empty talk is what Obama and the dems are all about. Lies? Didn’t Comment on issues? I think Obama is finally understanding what his speech had in it!
Palin CAN speak. Obama can’t. Palin has created jobs. Obama hasn’t HAD one. Palin had RUN Governing bodies. Obama hasn’t RUN anything.
The more you look the better she gets! I’m NOT assuming she can’t have skeletons in the closet. But AT LEAST she isn’t afraid of people finding out!
Well, Duh, for all your dicta, all I got out of your ramblings that were a positive about Palin was that she was “impressive.” The end.
Then you negatively attacked the rest of the world.
You can’t think of anything at all that she said in her speech last night that would make the U.S. really get behind the McCain/Palin ticket?
And for everything that’s being laid out that are grevious problems with Palin, you’re not at all concerned?
Under your ideology, a reincarnated Rasputin should be the next Surgeon General. He was “impressive” too. The end.
Mom 1:22. That is a funny observation. Todd spends vastly more time over here than at his own site. Kind of like the unpopular neighbor that sets up a patio party and ends up invading another house for companionship. What is is site anyway?? http://www.deadinthewater.com or is it http://www.nocloutnohat.com??
One of my friends (who is a new mother and a working class individual) said she was so upset with Palin’s lies during her speech that she donated $100 to Obama’s campaign. I betcha he was rolling in dough last night.
Obama wants to thank you Palin for such a great performance.
Guy: Palin created jobs?
Maybe you want to read Fleming’s (long) post over at “Summary of the Arguments by Dem’s…”
Specifically under this heading:
“REALITY: PALIN SUPPORTED EXPORTING NATURAL GAS WHILE ALASKA BUSINESSES CLOSED BECAUSE OF SHORTAGES”
Tgrind. Obviously, you and I both heard the speech last night. You didn’t listen or became instantly pissed off as usual. In short, McCain is better at international relations, he will defend the country better than Hussein and his wife Momabama. He has the clout, Hussein has the speech writers. Government, Hussein wants it bigger M/P don’t. Hussein hasn’t made one executive decision and has no background to ascend to this job. She has had accomplishments (that you heard but didn’t listen) as an executive. Hussein has none.
Economy, talked about it. Energy and alternative fuels, talked about it. Environment, talked about it. Governmental relations and efficiency, talked about it. Socialized free give aways of Prozac for whacked out liberals - didn’t talk about that.
The rest, do a google search for the text of the speech then read it.
She set forth her ideology that will govern her decisions. An ideology that I subscribe to.
tgrind, I could throw all kids of “are you concerned” statements at you about your obvious choice, Obama Hussein. I could include names like Rev. Wright a known racist and mentor to Obama, and Rezko. But I won’t mention those side issues. Let’s talk about things like experience that one should have, not a heartbeat away from the presidency, but one that would be elected to the office. Your friend has none. He only has words, “just words.”
Peace
Even ‘if’ Palin’s speech would not have been littered with lies, it offered no substance in what the McSame adminstration plans to do to help this country. Nothing. The DNC proved to be uniting - the RNC so far has proven to be dividing. I’m glad they still think the Rove playbook will work this time, boneheads.
Tgrin,
My favorite topic is integrity, manners, and being kind in how we make a point.
And this time you have it right–Duh should use his manners and chose his words more carefully.
Yeah, Tgringo, The smears were so green, the ink wasn’t even dry yet. And the first one had to be corrected, because it was wrong.
I suppose dems are mad and they’ll give more to Obama. But HOW is that possible in the economy created by GWB?? And Detroit, especially your friend, when she was just PUNISHED with a baby.
So, I suppose you can find the Laws Obama sponsored or wrote. Cause I can find the BOOKS!
How about telling me what management experience Obama has.
Or tell me what how his tax plan works.
My liberal friends, just keep up the mob attack but it’s only helping the McCain/Palin ticket. 37 million viewers took a look at Palin in the comfort of their small middle class towns across America. Do you naysayers think they didn’t hear that Sarah Palin is a person like them? Do you think they will buy in to the Dem charges that she didn’t have her state in mind with any decisions she’s made? If you do, you’re mistaken just like the underestimation of whether those viewers have figured out that Alaskans love her (80%-90% approval rating in her state.) Stay tuned America.
(I’m a voter who doesn’t want my neighbor to pay for my healthcare!!)
His tax plan isn’t rocket science:
Cut taxes for 98% of Americans. Have the wealthiest 2% of Americans pay their share. Close corporate tax loopholes.
Want to know how much your Obama tax cut will be? Check out this handy calculator: http://alchemytoday.com/myobamataxcut.html
So what makes the most sense: Obama, a guy who understands the economy and the middle class, and has real solutions, or McSame and Co.?
Interesting Notes:
1) 52% of Palin’s viewers were women while Obama’s female viewership was only 38% women.
2) Palin’s viewership was 55% more than Biden’s and 40% more than Hilary Clinton’s.
“Nielsen Co. reported this afternoon that an estimated 37 million people watched her address on the three broadcast networks, plus CNN, FOX News Channel, and MSNBC. That’s just 1.1 million shy of the record audience for Barack Obama’s acceptance speech last week, which was carried on four other cable networks as well, Nielsen said.
And her audience compares to 24 million who tuned in last Wednesday when Senator Joe Biden accepted the Democratic vice presidential nod, and 21 million who watched the GOP convention on Tuesday night.
Nielsen also noted that 19.5 million women watched Wednesday night, 4.9 million more than a week ago for the Democratic convention.”

The last time I enjoyed a political speech as much as last night’s, it was Ronald Reagan was doing circles around the media and Dems. Palin’s the real deal. As one droll GOP e-mailer put it, “I like our Messiah more than their Messiah.”
Obnoxious neighbor that I am (Pat, can I borrow all your “power” tools?), my informal poll of women I work with, my wife, and women clients is not a single one of them liked what Palin said last night or liked her. “Patsy” was one term a client of mine used about Palin. These are hard working women who aren’t particularly political.
It’s ain’t a Gallup Poll, it’s even better. It’s an EppPoll.
I’m just sayin’.

What is pay their fair share? The wealthy pay the majority of taxes already at a higher marginal tax rate then you or I. The Marginal rate increses as the income increases so a larger % already leaves our state to be redistributed among the least productive in our society. Class envy doesnt work anymore so please stop trying to use this process of class envy. How much is fair anyway? 50%? 60% 70% please tell me oh great one what us poor stupid working stffs can keep of our paycheck. In fact just stop all investment, after all where do you think the money comes from to start new business, new inventions, venture capital, and the rest. Please public/private schools teach some economics!
Yeah, I had to visit a few laywers once. Wasn’t places I’d really hang out in.
What’s the saying “Nobody likes lawyers until you need them.” I don’t think they change their minds, they just shut up.
Sarah Palin is just a good hard, WORKING woman, who can speak for a lot of people.
All these comments disparaging her after one speech. The Democrats are going to be busy the next 2 months if they are this wrought up over her first public appearance.
“Again, the Democrats are in trouble.” - PP.
Typical Republican elitist who forgets his simple opinion does not make him right. ![]()
My girl and I watched the Palin speech last night. Actually, she started watching it and I ended up joining her. Both of us were going to vote Obama. She liked his message and I just wanted to shake the pot up a bit.
After the speech. Both of us have switched to McCain/Palin.
My girl liked her speech and pull no punches attitude. She wasn’t afraid to put it out there the way she saw it. “Truth” will be argued about like a football on the field by the pundits. She also liked her use of humor to make the attacks a little less personal.
My informal poll was of real working class women… who don’t hire attorneys… and they ALL liked Palin. None were really interested in the election before last night. They were sure chatting about it this morning.
The wife of a co-worker had switched to a “D” so she could vote for Hillary said last night that she was voting for McCain and would probably switch back to a “R”.
Fletch
Anecdotal but indictative of what I’ve been seeing.
Wife, born a “Kennedy / Bostonian” Democrat. More conservative over the years but STILL a Democrat. Switched parties after Sarah Palin’s speach and anger over Hillary’s mistreatment by the Obama campaign and the DNC.
In a union workforce, women are openly impressed by Sarah Palin AND openly showing support. A new awareness that Obama has not been a strong supporter of union goals and is NOT supported by union workers in his home state of Illinois.
Democratic co-workers asking the “Elephant Man” (me) for more information about Sarah Palin.
Democratic “activists” voicing worries about the general election and their own misgivings about Obama.
General backlash against CNN and NBC, in particular, in their reporting about Sarah Palin.
Increasing solidarity in support of the McCain / Palin ticket by “lukewarm” conservatives.
Emails from conservative friends around the country excited about the GOP ticket.
“Nam Era” veterans contacting me about their support for the McCain / Palin ticket. Veterans tired and upset about the lack of support by a Democrat led Congress.
I’m beginning to think the GOP may not only win the Presidential election but may outperform in the “down ticket” races, as well.
Democrats that are counting on the Hillary Clinton voter’s support, particularly if they endorsed Obama may find a lack of enthusiasm in their “ground troops”.
http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/forumdisplay.php?f=13
If 18% of the Hillary Clinton supporters actually VOTE for McCain / Palin, Obama will lose by roughly 4 million votes.
If union membership votes for a fellow union member (instead of the union endorsed candidate) there’s a few million more. If union membership becomes aware of his sellout of the union to Maytag, union workers will desert his campaign in droves.

If urban blacks become aware of who made money from the substandard housing they can’t occupy, Obama’s “community organizing” credentials are ruined:

You go William,
Points well made, no nasty words, no attacks–just the facts and the references to back them up!
You are the man tonight!
Todd had to take some medicine and go to bed because the RNC convention made him sick. It would be better if he would refrain from TV and blogging until after the election.
PP’s power tools would be OK though–maybe he could keep himself busy building a fort in the backyard
I avoid watching speeches. Instead, I read the transcripts to get the content without being misled by emotional cues to which my Italian red corpuscles are overly vulnerable.
Sarah Palin impresses me. A suggestion for her: Retire the expression “hockey mom.” A suggestion for her left-leaning critics: Retire the word “moose.”
Even though I’m a Republican on paper, Joe Biden impresses me. He’s off-the-chart brilliant, and he knows how to laugh at himself. That’s good. I have a feeling that there will be time enough for crying in the next four years, no matter who wins this election.
The Biden/Palin debates ought to be worth watching live, my corpuscles be d****d.
Apparently, Biden doesn’t impress too many considering he went nowhere in his 2 (or was it 3?) Presidential runs.
Well, all that integrity Biden has in his pinky still didn’t get him anywhere in his Presidential runs.
Just because you know how to Google news doesn’t make one a reporter, Detroit!
Please don’t cry when Palin wipes the floor with Biden. Just tell me ‘he kicked her ass!’ So I won’t have to feel sorry for you!
Stan, She doesn’t USE the term ‘hockey mom’ and ‘moose’ she’s refering to actual events. Why doesn’t Ombama stop using the term ‘community organizer’ and ‘U.S. Senator.’
Detroit: If you think Biden has any integrity, albeit more than Palin, than you’re again a lost cause. Biden does have the same integrity as the Mayor of the city that bears your monikor. I can’t wait until the debates. Again, Biden is nothing more than recycled news and is someone that is always coming out of the closet/box because the Dems have no one else. Problem is, so is McCain, but McCain has the distinction of being a hero. Hussein, is a talker pretty boy with above average speech writers. Form over substance always loses. When this is all said and done, all the speeches and commercials are over and the voter is at the polls, McCain, for whatever reason, i.e. international fear, fear of the unknown, stability, will get the votes.

Keep telling yourself that, Pat. If you do, just like Palin, you start believing your own line of bull.
