Joel Dykstra rolls out his first TV ad

Joel Dykstra does a good job in his first advertisement of coming out and laying it on the line with an introduction, and the issue of Tim Johnson refusing to debate.

“Honest”, but not without a smeary, negative jab.

Honest Publius? In what way? …oh yeah, he had the dates right.

Plus, what’s up with the continuity at the front end?

“Here’s my family having a picnic… speaking of that, did you know Tim Johnson won’t debate me?”

Lame.

Notice that the SD GOP paid for the ad? Apparently Dykstra still can’t raise any money. Glad to see the republicans throwing money down this black hole.

Usually, the first commercial is an introduction of yourself. Dykstra didn’t say anything about himself, and didn’t highlight his family except to say that he has one. He didn’t talk about his position on issues or how he differs from Tim Johnson.

I think this was really a wasted effort, and the fact he did a commercial of this nature as his first one shows that he’s short on money and cutting corners.

9:26am: agree 100%

9:25 and 9:26 a.m. are both right on the mark with their comments.

And that he’s got nothing to campaign on other than Tim’s refusal to debate.

No real issues. No debate about it.

9:25 and 9:26:

I’m sure that the Dykstra campaign and GOP will pull the ad. They know you have their best interests at heart.

Maybe Dykstra should get Todd Epp to produce an ad and put it on his site! It doesn’t take much money apparently.

Dykstra wants to talk about the future of this country. Tim Johnson wants us to look at his past record and think that should be good enough to re-elect him. The Democrats all want change this year. Isn’t Tim running on his past record a contradiction to their change?

I found it interesting that the Dykstra campaign never released any sort of statement about the death of Joel’s mother last weeek.

The Johnson campaign is counting on the sympathy vote, and when Dykstra had the opportunity to garner a little of that himself, he took the high road and kept it private, as it should have been.

Nonetheless, you have the sympathies of many friends, Joel. Keep your chin up!

Good stuff! No debate about it!

The commercial hit the nail on the head. Obviously Joel’s strategy is working if it wasn’ the knucklehead overt Badlands Blue wouldn’t be bashing him. I have to see Badlands Blue has got to be the most negative Blog I have read in a longtime. These gus are like hire hitmen over there. To bad the Democrats are counting on another year of negative campaigning to win.

ONCE AGAIN:
Johnson will win BECAUSE OF HIS ILLNESS…not in spite of it!!

My name’s Joel Dykstra. And you should vote for me because Tim Johnson won’t debate.

Dykstra’s a one-trick pony, and his trick isn’t very impressive.

Great message!

Keep up the good work Joel!

3:10 - You apparently haven’t heard Joel in person if you think he’s a one-trick pony. This is only the first ad.

The first and last ad. How much money do you think the party should waste? There are real races that need to be funded. If Joel can’t raise his own money I don’t think the party should be wasting precious resources.

Mellow. That’s just it, most of us haven’t heard him in person.

And this first ad makes him look dumb as a post. (I’m sure he isn’t)

First rule of advertising. Never spend money to damage an image you don’t have yet. (i.e. don’t start negative.)

Joel opens with a negative attack, says Tim won’t talk about the issues.

So, Mr. Dykstra, why don’t you begin? Start by explaining why you sponsored legislation that told the US Congress we don’t care about clean water.

If that is your stance, you won’t get my vote for the Senate. Aww hell, you ain’t getting it anyway.

2nd Rule. You only get to be new once.

Negative attack, Tony? What a load of Male Bovine Recycled Grass! The point Joel brings up is valid. I don’t care that Tim Johnson got $6.4 million in funds approved so that the Keldron Fire Department could buy a ladder and get the Bellbottom family’s cat out of a tree. I would like to see what he is going to do, and who knows how much the Senator will improve (if at all) over the next 6 years? We hope greatly, but you never know…….

Wow Joel…releasing an attack on the day of your mom’s funeral…that is pretty desperate.

Tony Dean has spoken.
Sportsmen and hunters everywhere take heed!

Now to go dust off my “Sportsmen for Johnson” bumper sticker from ‘02…

6:50 - That comment is so incredibly stupid, it doesn’t deserve any response other than I hope you’re really proud.

The point Joel is making is Tim can’t defend his policies, much less fight for them.

I think it is working. If Tim “had it in the bag” the Democrats wouldn’t be worried.

Tony, Haven’t you thrown out your Republican registration card yet? You’d have to have registered Democrat to vote for Obama last June.
