Sarah Palin speaks at the Republican Governor’s Association meeting
Dang – when she’s not fettered by handlers, she’s pretty darned good:

Dang….when she has a script in front of her….she actually speaks in coherent sentences.
Just like a TV anchor.
It wasn’t her handlers. She gave great speech’s with her handlers. She can give a good speech, she just can’t answer the tough and not so tough questions.
. . . .”when Obama has a teleprompter in front of him…. he actually speaks without saying umm and having pregnant pauses. And when Biden has one, he doesn’t put is foot in his mouth. Just like a TV anchor.”
THC: I said this because the above is true too. I don’t know a single politician who doesn’t have “speech” flow and “conversation” flow and aren’t different. In fact, the one’s who sound the same are only responding in talking points and not really thinking but spouting talking points.
Obama, Biden, McCain, and Palin are all smart and gifted politicians, each with their different traits and characteristics which leads to different types of charisma and charm.
My question is: Why is the criticism of Palin so directly personal and derogatory? Criticize her views and positions if you like. Such criticism is good for the body politic.
To demonize and denigrate is a display of a lack of decency as well as intellectual heft. I’m sure you can do better.
I said what I said because, like a lot of TV anchors I have known over the years, she displays great heft when she has words to read.
But when she has to think on her feet, she displays an overt unfamiliarity with facts.
Again, just like far too many TV anchors.
Obama and quite a few others don’t speak well…but they speak with a knowledge of facts, context and history.
She doesn’t.
That’s not demonizing.
That’s not denigrating.
Why personal? Because she has to get a lot smarter before she is qualified to be more than a governor of a state with more moose than people.
You guys aren’t serious? Are You? She should go back to Alaska and stay there. We had an idiot for president the last 8 years. We don’t need another one for at least another 300 years.
I don’t see any of the criticism of Palin in this post as being too personal or derogatory. If you do Troy you really need to get some thicker skin.
Comparison to a TV anchor is never meant as a compliment but an insult. And it is confirmed when it makes the statement about “complete sentences”.
Did anyone ever sit and listen to Moynihan talk? It was so clipped, subjects or verbs were missing and interchanged. New Yorkers definitely knew what he was saying but for us midwesterner’s it was a struggle. Or Ernest Hollings of SC.
For South Dakotan’s to make fun of her speech patterns is almost self-flagellation. She speaks like many people from this region.
But my real point is that we need to raise the nature of the debate. There is too often a tendency of people on both sides to define intelligence/knowledge/cognitive ability as “we agree”. To the extent their is disagreement, the other person is characterized as stupid/uninformed.
When I worked in the US Senate, none of them were stupid. As one who worked directly for a Governor and saw what it takes just to get through a day, none of our nation’s Governor’s are stupid. And, to the extent that people want to flippantly denigrate overtly or covertly as a means to claim superior positions on the issues, all of the theme’s (post-partisan, less rancor) Obama claimed to represent will be denied.
I can only hope and pray that this woman keeps getting trotted out as the voice and salvation of the GOP.
Bush isn’t an idiot, he’s a criminal and a traitor who broke his oath to uphold the Constitution and encouraged his staff to do the same. He will do it again several times before he’s finally out of office, and he’ll attempt to pardon himself and everyone involved when he leaves.
For the sake of our Charter with each other, and for the good of our nation, he needs to be brought to justice.
Bush did a top notch job for us these past 8 years. Look what great shape the country is in after 8 years of his leadership. We need more presidents just like him. The fundamentals of our economy are strong. (JOhn McCain) We have become a nation of whiners. (Phil Gramm). I’m tired of people saying anything bad about Bush. He’s the best president we have ever had except for all the rest.
You sound so bitter. We’ll see, in the next couple of months, won’t we? Again I say, to blame everything wrong with this country on Bush is very narrow-minded and short-sighted.
Hey, Palin is OK and her detractors are contemptable. This story plant on MSNBC – Jack Beaty on NPR – elitist (D) baloney and out and out fraudulent smears against a decent person of good sense and reasonable judgment.
I don’t see her as presidential timber, and the (R) party will likely move away from the segement of the party she mostly appeals to, but I think she’s more than a bit of all right. Joe.
Sarah Palin has demostrated an ability to adapt (rather quickly) to new challenges while moving from PTA, Mayorship & the Governorship of Alaska. On issues she’s faced in these positions, she’s very comptent. On issues outside of her experience, ie international affairs, she obviously needs to broaden her “range” if she aspires to higher national office.
That said, other than governor’s that have been plotting their path to the White House, few governors would have any more expertise, than she.
The stock market does not seem to believe in Hope and Change. I wonder what it might be doing if we had elected a Republican president. How are your investments doing?
Bush gives idiots a bad name. No self respecting idiot would want to be associated with Bush.
Mellow Redhead is one of only 24% of the country who thinks Bush is something other than an idiot. I’m with her. He’s not an idiot – he’s a dipsh!t.
It is simple. If Palin were pro-choice and went to a fancy college, she would not be considered an “idiot” by liberals. Obama was no more “qualified” than Palin in terms of experience, but that was overlooked by elitist liberals (and, unfortunately, other Kool-Aid drinkers who want something for nothing) because of his philosophy and Ivy League education.
11:45 – According to your logic, the country must think Congress is idiots too, as last I heard their approval rating was lower than that of President Bush, having dropped even since the Democrats took over 2 years ago.
First, Palin and Yobama haven’t been treated equally. That’s a fact Jack. Any rumbles about Yobama and his wife Mamabama’s clothing? Any complaints over their expense? Palin returned her clothing after the election, did they? Hell no. That attrocious dress that Mamabama wore on election night should be cause for a recount. Any furvor over that, no. Palin was thust into the limelight and the poster above correctly commented that because of her less ivy league, affirmative action back ground, she didn’t get the same respect. Yobama has NO experience to lead and the soundbites that you’ve all heard relating to his reeling back his promises are evidence of that.
Yobama’s Hope and Change mantra was pure bullsh!t. Who’s predicted to be the next secretary of state? Hillary. There’s change for you… Who else is predicted to fill Yobama’s cabinet, Clinton administration cronies. There’s change for ya. What does anyone here really know about Yobama. He hasn’t even been around long enough to have a record. One thing I know is that I don’t know. Exception, his lovely biggoted, unpatriotic piece of work pastor, extremist buddies who like to blow stuff up, his bitchy wife is now proud to be an American (even though she’s worth about $6 mil.)
No President could have come out of the last 8 years smelling good: First attack on american soil; enemies that exist for our demise (muslim extremist), enemies that have no loyalty, no agenda, no purpose other than to wreck havoc on EVERYONE, an economy that is floudering at the fault of everyone in charge, not just Rep. Timmy “I’n appruve of this messssaaagee” Johnson was one of the heads of the Banking Committee that oversaw this mess. His punishment: reelection and another 6 years of embarrassing work and a ranking as 90 out of 100 senators in terms of effectiveness.
I approve of Mellow Redhead’s stance. Bush is the fodder of all the bullsh!t liberal media and we’ll see Yobama on how much crap he gets when he further tanks the economy, makes our military weaker subjecting us to further attacks, trashes the capitalistic incentive of US employers through attempted enforcement of stupid taxing policies, guts the heart and soul of America through the legitimization of vile social policies and acceptance of the least common denominator so that “everyone can feel good”, albeit at the expense of true Americans that actually have dreams, actually work.
Check out the radio bit by Howard Stern where he had one of his people go out to Harlem before the election. The bit was to switch the policies of McCain and Yobama and hear their reactions. The individual asked Harlem residents such things as what they thought about Yobama being Pro-Life, anti stem cell research, anti tax increase, wanting to finish the mid east wars and his selection of Palin as his running mate. Every single voter agreed with Yobama’s apparent stance and said that Palin would make a wonderful VP. Stern was shocked. I was not. The average voter is a moron. 3 of 5 average voters can’t tell you who the VP is. 2 of 5 voters don’t know that there are 3 branches of government, 3 of 5 voters couldn’t tell you who are main adversaries are.
Just watch, if Yobama gets his way and the demo congress is blind to checking him: second amendment, gone; taxes through the roof; miliatary spending, slashed; risk to the US waaaay up; economic confidence, through the floor; over all way of life, waaay down. Demise of the US probable. Just watch.
Blah, blah, blah, duh, whine … blah.
Mellow Redhead is an idiot expert. He/she knows idiots like he/she knows him/herself. You’re right, Mellow. People thought a whole bunch of republic congressmen were idiots and kicked them out. Voters overwhelmingly reelected their Democratic congress people and elected new Democrats to replace the repubic idiots. With Bush out and democrats strengthened, it should be a little less idiotic around DC for the next few years.
Anon 12:32 Typical democrat, rebuff facts and concise points with drivel and baseless broad statements.
Not whining at all, just not going to pay for the lazy asses who don’t have the sense to get a job.
As for DC not being a little more idiotic, I think the demos will redefine what it is to be an idiot. If the reps are idiots, at least they’re strong, feared and have an agenda. Dem idiots – BS everyone into thinking they get a free lunch, reduce the military and focus on “hugs” for the muslims. I have no doubt that your party, comprised mostly of gullible morons, will redefine the term “idiot”.
Thank you Duh. Dems on this site are pretty fast and loose with the word idiot. And 12:32, just so you know and don’t wear out your / key, it’s she. And you still didn’t answer my question about why the Democrat majority Congress of the last 2 years has had their approval rating drop even lower than the President’s?

Your’e kidding? Right?
Rommney is going to be the 2012 Republican Nominee. Duh.
