KCCR – Scratch one GOP Candidate from 2010. Michels just says no.
Tony Mangan at KCCR News has some breaking news that we can take one person’s name off of the GOP list of 2010 hopefuls.
Former state Speaker of the House Matt Michels of Yankton has decided not to run for the Governor and will instead support Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard, who is already a candidate for the job.
and…
The two served together in the Legislature when Daugaard was a Senator and Michels served eight years in the House, the last four as Speaker. Michels says the two have worked well together and share the same position on many issues.
Michels, whose wife Karen is a Pierre native, says he expects to run for public office again sometime. He isn’t sure for what yet, but says he plans to again serve the public.
Click here to find out more. Why does the political cynic in me see thinly veiled code for Michels being courted as a Lt. Governor pick for Daugaard? I might be wrong.
Or maybe not.

That is too bad, however Michels will make a great candidate in the future. Maybe consideration is for Lt. Gov!
It’s sad news that Matt won’t be our next Governor, but his support for Daugaard pretty much guarantees Dennis a win.
I hope you’re right on your Lt. Gov. speculation… What an awesome team that would make.
Lee had no chance of winning before, but I hope he realizes there’s no point in running now.
Scheonbeck/Michels would be a strong ticket and provide better geographic balance than two (Daugaard/Michels) from SE South Dakota.
Go Lee!
I could see him running for Sec. of State or something along those lines. Matt is a great leader for South Dakota and we need him serving the people of our state as an elected official.
Matt is a good leader, those who have followed have tried to replicate him and it has not worked. Matt has what others want and they can’t do it.
Matt will be back and he will be great. Do I agree with him 100%, most likely not, but I support him.
Joshua Haeder, are you flipping kidding me. SOS, please. The thought that michels would even consider that is laughable. Thanks for the chuckle. I’m sure Rich Sattgast will do a fine job there.
Hey Josh, how about Lee S. or Denny D. agreeing to run for SOS if they don’t get the nomination. Dave K. may be interested as well. Sure Michels would want to give up his law practice for Kip’s seat.
Michels has a very good law practice that includes serving as counsel for Avera. He is not going to walk away from that unless he gets something pretty attractive.

I sure didn’t see anything printed on their website. Can ya give us the news, let it be known that you have not verified it.
