Building a Dynasty – South Dakota Style.

How Democrats and the media hate nepotism in South Dakota. How they despise even the hint of potential special treatment. For instance…

A brother-in-law to Gov. Mike Rounds is working as a consultant for Powertech Uranium Corp., the Canadian business that is exploring for uranium near Edgemont.

Randy Brich of Pierre, who is married to the governor’s sister, Michele, is working in media relations on contract for Powertech. Brich also is part of the public-relations team for the corporation’s Dewey Burdock project in the Edgemont area.

Such a close family connection to the governor worries Dick Fort of Lead, president of ACTion for the Environment and an opponent of Powertech’s uranium-development plans.

“This is a clear conflict of interest, it seems to me,” Fort said. “I think it would be clear that there’s a vested interest involving the governor’s relatives that raises a serious question here.”

(Read that here.)  In the instance of Governor Rounds, they scourge the Governor and his Brother-in-law because the brother-in-law works for a company that might be seeking mining permits.

But for these same people who are giving Mike Rounds a hard time because of who his brother in law works for – a question. if there is the possibility of some deference due to who the brother-in-law is related to, someone please explain to me how that conflict compares to another instance of potential nepotism and familial favoritism that’s swirling around South Dakota at the moment:

As President-elect Barack Obama continues to fill his cabinet positions, there are already whispers of who will become the next U.S. Attorney in South Dakota.

One of the names floating to the top of discussions is Brendan Johnson, son of South Dakota’s Senior Senator Tim Johnson, which could raise some ethical questions.

At the age of 33, Brendan Johnson makes it no secret, he has dreamt of becoming a U.S. Attorney.

“My real passion has led to prosecution and to represent South Dakota that way,” Brendan Johnson said.

Johnson says he is considering applying for the position but will wait until the process begins to make a definite decision.

and…

Traditionally, the senior U.S. senator nominates someone for U.S. Attorney; in that case, it would be Brendan’s dad, Senator Tim Johnson.

If Senator Johnson does select his son, it wouldn’t be the first time that’s happened. Political analysts say if history tells us anything, it’s almost certain Brendan Johnson would get the confirmation.

Read it all here.  The hypocrisy that comes from democrats on the issue of nepotism is just incredible.  While they cast stones at the Governor for having a relative who works for a company that might want to apply for a permit granted by the state, their reaction on Tim Johnson’s dynasty building in conjunction with his offspring’s desire for the U.S. Attorney’s position is completely opposite.

As opposed to saying something like – “you know, while you might be qualified, it just looks bad. You need to wait until your dad isn’t Senator anymore.” We get the opposite. They’re not just dismissing charges of nepotism, it seems as if they’re embracing it.

And the Johnson family isn’t much better.

According to an interview conducted by Denise Ross at Hoghouseblog.com, the Johnson family is doing everything they can to avoid the appearance of dynasty building and impropriety. Despite the fact that it’s impossible to do:

For the younger Johnson, the elder’s seat in the U.S. Senate complicates matters rather than paves the way. It is the normal protocol for the senior senator from the party of the president to nominate candidates for jobs such as U.S. attorney, but the Johnsons have decided that protocol wouldn’t be followed should Brendan Johnson decide he wants the job. He lays out a few alternatives.

“If I do apply, my father’s not going to have any role in the nomination process. He would not nominate, endorse or lobby on my behalf whatsoever,” Johnson said.

Instead, perhaps the decision would be left completely in the hands of a new Obama administration. Or a bipartisan committee of respected members of the ranks of South Dakota’s legal profession might be appointed to a committee, and that committee would forward a nomination to the White House.

(Read that here) Or, in simpler terms, we might just say that the elder and the younger members of the Johnson Dynasty are doing everything they can outside of normal procedure to get the nomination through without people scratching their heads going “Isn’t that kind of B.S., with the dad is nominating his kid?”

The problem is, they can’t accomplish it.

If Senator Johnson’s son – while very likely qualified – is named as the U.S. Attorney, no matter how they try to game the system to avoid it, it is impossible to avoid the appearance of improprety. Unless we now have adopted the monarchy that our forefathers eschewed so long ago, and endorse the naked building of political dynasties. Because that’s the only way this can be justified.

Otherwise, the naming of Brendan Johnson as U.S. Attorney in the same state his father holds the position of U.S. Senator is improper. No matter how much Senator Johnson’s son wants the job, no matter how much he might be qualified, the honorable thing to do is to take a pass until his dad is no longer U.S. Senator.

Period.

Sorry PP, stretching it again. Tapping someone to be a US Attorney (a person who has the creds to do the job, BTW) from the same party our President and Senior Senator are from (ohh, big surprise) and having a brother-in-law representing an energy company that wants to mine hazardous materials in our state is quite different. Especially when you have a governor that 1) has mentioned building a Nuclear plant in SD publicly and 2) bases every decision he makes on how it can benefit him, his family or his campaign contributors.

Last I checked, the job of a US Attorney is far different then the job of a marketing person working for a private company that seeks our natural resources. One works for us, the other works for themself.

You figure it out.

The silly thing about the Rounds/Brich/PowerTech story is that Randy Brich is not working for the State, he is working for PowerTech.

So the question is if Brich can use his relationship with the governor to the advantage of the project. PowerTech has to deal with the county commission, the Board of Mining, and the appropriate federal agency. I don’t think they need to really deal with the governor at all.

Detroit L is right that the jobs are different. One is a job in private enterprise. The other is a public position.

PP is right – Tim Johnson should not recommend his son for that job. There are others who are more qualified.

Tim Johnson annointing his son as heir to the throne and ignoring many more qualified people is disgusting. And it’s causing a LOT of anger in Democratic circles. Everyone pitched in and helped Tim pull off an election when he was “sick” and now this outrage.

To 9:33: You say: “Tapping someone to be a US Attorney (a person who has the creds to do the job, BTW) from the same party our President and Senior Senator are from (ohh, big surprise).”

The same party, yep, no surprise, no problem. The same family, that’s bogus, unless Brendan is the only lawyer in SD who is qualified. And that ain’t the case.

10:16, that’s what people get for voting with their sympathies instead of their brains. Johnson should have done the right thing and not run for re-election. But he did. And we are stuck with the fallout.

Awww, come on now… you all realize that Democrats don’t have to play by the same rules as Republicans. I don’t like Rounds, but trying to tie him to a company his brother-in-law works for is a stretch even for Dems, isn’t it?

Noooooooo, on second thought – nothing is too much of a stretch for Democrats. And the things they think we should ignore just amaze me!

10:21 – Johnson won because Dykstra was a lousy candidate. That’s the SD GOP’s fault for not putting up a candidate that could be a ’sick’ person.

10:24 – The RCJ wrote the article, not the Democrats.

I don’t see Democrats taking after the governor or his brother-in-law. There is one person from an environmental group complaining. He isn’t an elected official, he’s not speaking for the democratic party nor does he claim to, and in fact the article doesn’t even mention the democratic party.

In fact, I’m dissapointed the SD Democratic party hasn’t gone after Governor Rounds. It takes six years in to his administration for the SD MSM to finally say anything about his corruption.

What are they so scared of? He is the Governor of one of the least populated states in the nation – big whoop.

Johnson choosing HIS SON to be the highest federal law enforcement official in South Dakota!?! oh, no nepotism or smell of corruption there! this is ridiculous. where the h–l are the SD media like the Argus on this travesty? this is why newspapers suck so bad and lose money. they can’t the obvious corruption in front of them!

If a Republican tried to pull off this dynastic politics and give his son a big political plum and give him the political career he wants, the Democrats and the media would be going apes—t!! When a Democrat does it after to lying to his constituents for 2 years and dodging the press, the reporters don’t think it’s a big deal. Pathetic

Detroit you are so predictable at least Todd and even Bill F. can be talked to but you…… The brother- In-law works for a private company and to my knowledge does not have a contact with the state and even if they did so what. I see nothing wrong with Johnson’s son who, is qualified, as US attorney.

Old guy, I would agree under any normal circumstances about Brendan Johnson’s qualifications.

However, with his dad in the drivers seat for who gets the job, for it to be a proper – and honorable – selection, he cannot be the choice.

By virtue of the relationship, picking one’s own son should be off limits.

PP.
I understand your point I just don’t agree.

So there are no other Democrat lawyers in the entire state of South Dakota besides B. Johnson who might be qualified for the job???

How long are people in this state going to allow Tim Johnson to get away with these outrageous activities. Pretending to be “healthy” and “working hard” for South Dakota when he’s clearly not healthy and then PICKING HIS SON to be the top federal prosecutor in the worst case of nepotism this state has ever seen??

Impeach Johnson for misleading the electorate.

Give me a break people. I do agree Johnson with his health issue should not have been elected but he was so I will live with it.

12:46, agreed, but when Johnson starts pushing his son, that’s where the line is drawn. Let the kid run for office himself. He’ll get elected ’cause South Dakotans are too sentimental.

What does a low-life hack know about “honorable?”

(I suspect a bit more than a commenter who lacks the testicular fortitude to stand behind their own words. Whom I suspect is an even lower-level hack. -pp)

People he is qualified. The Dems won the election. remember when we had Kevin S. who only got appointed because he was Presslers Chief of Staff. Now that was a bad one.

Brendan Johnson has been running for political office since he was 15. It’s his destiny. His whole life in the fancy Washington suburbs was built around going back to South Dakota to fool the rubes into voting for him. And now Big Daddy Tim is greasing the skids and giving Prince Brendan the boost he needs. When are South Dakotans gonna stop being suckers? I know the media loves the Johnsons because they are liberals and they protect their own, but normal South Dakotans need to put a stop to this.

Hey idiot “oldguy.” Schieffer was not Pressler’s SON! Brendan is Tim’s OWN SON. have you ever heard of nepotism? isn’t their any kind of Democratic chicanery you won’t defend?

Pi are you saying Johnson is not qualified?

You guys continue to bash Johnson yet are in a state of denial about Dykstra. Why won’t you admit that you recruited a lousy candidate? I mean seriously? He put the sucky in suckiness. You couldn’t beat a guy who 1) Had a stroke 2) Has a speech impediment 3) has to get around in a wheelchair 4) Did not do one single debate. Pretty lame, if anything, the election should have at least been close. Not even.

I think South Dakotans learned there lesson with electing Thune to the Senate and how big of a mistake it was to replace Daschle with him – they were not going to give up another senior senator this time around for a half-wit neocon.

Almost as bad as Rounds’ deputy chief having all of her family members working for state govt as she did at one time.

The Reps couldn’t have won against Johnson no matter who ran this time around. Johnson and his staff wouldn’t allow a legitimate campaign. Any criticism was met with the “it’s unfair to criticize Johnon because of his illness.” Debates weren’t allowed because of Johnon’s speech problem, but that couldn’t be mentioned either without being attacked for picking on Johnson. Johnson esentially said to vote for him because he had done a good job in his opinion, and SD’ans are essentially good-hearted and sympathetic and they said sure we will because “we feel sorry for him and appreciate your hard work to get better” (even I applaud that, but it doesn’t mean that he deserved re-election).

Johnson’s son might be a good candidate or might not be. If he gets appointed in this manner, no one will ever know. For the sake of his political future, Brendan shoulld do the honorable thing and wait until he can try for the seat without a cloud hanging over him.

And Tim Johnson should have retired!

How many Senators have had their sons installed as the US Attorney of their state? Hello? Media? Argus Leader? are you going to get off your butts and look into this or just keep kissing Johnson’s butt?

You mean like when they Endorsed McLame & Governor Moose Drool – that kind of butt kissing?

It’s kind of like the Coach’s kid getting to be quarterback on the High School football team. If the kid is good, what’s he supposed to do, move to another town because his dad won’t let him play on the A team because of pressure from resentful neighbors?

I say, if Brandon wants to be considered on his own merits, let him apply and ask his dad to stay out of it. If he gets appointed, he should serve with pride and tell the PP’s and Springers of the world to stick it where the sun don’t shine.

That’s what Republicans do. Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander. You guys just gott get used to not being in charge any more.

But then again, you whined the whole time you were in control, and now you’re whining that you’re not, so what’s the dif?

IBesides, whining just might be the only thing you’re good at.

I have to agree (ugh) with Detroit about Dykstra. I did vote for Dykstra but help my nose while I did.

Bill –

This is real life, not high school sports. And it’s easy for the Johnson’s to do the right thing.

I’m sure there’s at least one other qualified Democrat in the state.

That’s funny Pat, when I was playing HS football it was pretty real, especially when you got your hand smashed between two football helmets when the windchill is -15 below.

Yeah, I remember getting my leg broken doing a side body block on Casey Verick from Hot Springs. Then the next year having to make sure Ken McClung was on the ground after every snap, defense or offense.

That all seemed seemed pretty real life to me, PP.

And Gary Simms, the coache’s kid was quarterbacking.

Hey, did you play football, PP or were you a cheerleader?

“I say, if Brandon wants to be considered on his own merits, let him apply and ask his dad to stay out of it.”

Apply to whom??? it’s Tim Johnson who makes the pick! It’s starting to look like Illinois politics here in South Dakota.

Dop, read PP’s post above:

“…but the Johnsons have decided that protocol wouldn’t be followed should Brendan Johnson decide he wants the job. He lays out a few alternatives.
“If I do apply, my father’s not going to have any role in the nomination process. He would not nominate, endorse or lobby on my behalf whatsoever,” Johnson said.”

Illinois politics? How so?

Do any of you really think that young Mr. Johnson won’t be appointed if he wants this thing? How do you keep the fact that his father is the senior Democrat Senator out of the process? And do any of you really believe that qualifications have anything to do with the appointment? Mr. Johnson is qualified, although clearly at the ripe old age of 33 there are many others who are more qualified. At best, he has been practicing law for 9 years. It just won’t pass the smell test if he is appointed.

Detroit, I see you are still showing that magnificent intellect of yours by calling people names. Most of us got over that in grade school.

The coaches kid got to be quarterback because he had his father’s talent and then practiced more than the rest of us. He had to. He was the coaches kid.

Seriously now. You all should read “Outliers”. Malcom Gladwell’s new book.
(Author of “The Tipping Point” and “Blink.”

If you do, you’ll understand. Success is not at all what you might think it is.

Besides, heaven forbid some powerful guy’s kid should
get a good job and not lose his reputation.

Take Jesus, for example.

I think most of you are putting too much credence into the actual power that TJ has with the Senate, which isn’t much. You don’t get whacked with a 90 out of 100 ranking in the senate for being influential or respected. He’s merely a thumping mass of veins, skin and hair, nothing more. His back stage goons will do all the work, good or bad. However, the dems being dems will probably scratch TJ’s back (i.e. confirm little TJ to US Attorney) so the Senate can get TJ’s rubber stamp on everything they want to do. Ya know, they wouldn’t want to put TJ in the position of having to “gasp” debate or complete coherent sentences would they?? Again, this will be the dems version of Kevin Schieffer. There are many, many more qualfied dem attorneys that have deeper allegience to the demo party and have worked far longer and harder for their causes. What will mini me be able to offer to the US attorney position? Not much but a car dealer smile and a ra, ra. Again, this is the nature of the beast. I feel really sorry for the existing US attorney crew who will have to take orders from a guy who’s probably younger than their offspring.

Jesus = Brendan Johnson. That’s a good one Billy. Hey, maybe he could multiply all of SD’s corn so there would be enough for ethanol and our children’s bellies….

Nice to see Duh’s wearing his Scrooge hat for the season.

Hey man, brush your teeth before you come on here.

And wash your feet.

I can smell you a mile away.

The Rounds-Brich deal stinks. Rounds balked at nuclear until his brother-in-law struck up a contract. It’s the first thing he mentioned pre-2009 budget. Sorry, gov’s bull of beans on this one.

Being appointed U.S. attorney bugs me less. It’s an appointment, after all.

Brendan has been rehearsing for his debut on the political stage for a decade. He’s been a spokesman for his father and whenever he can get mug on KELO they trot him out. This is his birthright. He’s priveleged and entitled. Just be around him. You’ll get it. This is a really dumb start to an attempt at a political career. But then again, the Johnson crew just pulled off a huge scam on the voters in 2008 after stealing the 2002 election. Nothing is beneath them.

So do you think when Tim appoints his “committee of brilliant lawyers” to then choose his son as the “best qualified” that they will follow orders? of course they will–that’s why they are being chosen. The fix is in, babies.

President Kennedy’s daughter gets annointed as the holder of the New York Senate seat that her uncle held. The skiis are greased for Biden’s son to take over his Senate seat in Delaware. Lots of fairness in these events. Now “Senator” Tim Johnson annoints his “qualified” son to be the top federal law enforcement official in South Dakota because he wants to start his son’s political career. How’s that for fair America??

This is why people are fed up with politics. But that doen’t mean that O is going to be any better. O and his followers may think that he is perfect and close to the Messiah, but the rest of us know just how human he really is.

And judging by Billy Boy’s posts above, I would say that some of us are getting under his skin. It’s so fun!!

Son of Privilege. A Product of the Washington Beltway and Virgina suburbs. Born to the manor.

I’ll take a smart person who really does understand South Dakota any day over this silver spooner

where is the Argus Leader??? where is Brendan’s constant cheerleader and Timmy fan club president Dave Kranz?? Hey Dave, can you pull Jarding’s ____ out of your ___ long enough to actually write something critical about a Democrat?

this appointment would be indefensible. don’t do it Tim

Wow, the Republican whiners are out in full force today. It seems that just about everyone who voted for Dykstra has put up a comment in this thread. All 14 of you.

I want to see Tim Johnson on camera explaining this travesty. Not drooling and mumbling, but really explaining this blatant nepotism. Can Tim be recalled? Because this is sinful.

Good point, why isn’t Tim defending what he’s doing?? are there any reporters with any balls left in South Dakota?

Blatant corruption: now there’s change we can believe in!

Senate seats are elected offices. If family members get appointed to these elected offices then there is something illegitimate about it. Kinda like when US Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska) got elected governor and appointed his daughter to his senate seat. Thing is, it didn’t bother the voters. They re-elected Lisa Murkowski – then kicked out Frank in favor of Moose Breath.

But if giving non-elected jobs to family members is improper, then why is Rounds’ son working for the state? Why is Rounds’ brother an executive with the state? The precedent is set – by repubs. Your silence is deafening when it comes to repubs already doing what you complain about dems possibly doing in the future. Your hypocracy speaks loud and clear.

Brendan Johnson isn’t getting this appointment because of his father. He’s getting it because he is close friends with Hildebrand who has a direct line to Barack Obama.

if you to talk dynasty, look at Princess Stephanie…she’s the granddaughter of a governor and secretary of state and the daughter of a majority leader….

Tim Johnson wasn’t elected to feather his family’s nest with public offices…can we impeach him? let’s have a vote

Troy, Lee, PP, oldguy,
are these really your people?

Say it ain’t so, guys.

Impeach Johnson?? Yes, along with all the other Demos on the Senate Banking Committee for opposing the strong regulatory bill offered in 2005 to rein in Freddie and Fannie. It couldn’t be brought to a floor vote because it was opposed by EVERY Democrat, even BO. And with the help of Stanford-Republicans South Dakota sends Johnson back to Washington and you’re worried about his pimple. What a bunch of clueless losers. You reap what you sew.

Do you mean “you rip what you sew”, or “you reap what you sow”?

As far as clueless losers go, Shaky Jake, tell me who conducts the impeachment trial for impeached senators?

By the way, republicans controlled the senate in 2005 meaning they controlled every committee, including banking. If something didn’t get out of committee it’s because the majority couldn’t muster their own votes.

Your grasp of the facts is quite shaky, jake.

“Brendan Johnson isn’t getting this appointment because of his father. He’s getting it because he is close friends with Hildebrand who has a direct line to Barack Obama.”

When all has fallen out with regard to the IL gov et al, let’s see about this direct line to Obama and how many people still want to claim it!

I can’t belive all the interest in this. Rounds and his brother-in-law have done nothing wrong and Tim Johnson has done nothing wrong if Brendan gets it so what it is a appointed job by the party in power. Folks the election is over like it or not, and I don’t, Tim is my senator. Time will tell how well he does but for now he is S.D. sr. senator. We need to stop knocking people and try to work together.

Why anyone close to Johnson thought this would be appropriate is beyond me. This kind of favoritism and corruption should be stopped.

When Brendan is US Attorney, it will be easier for Tim to steal more elections.

Tim Johnson is taking lessons from Governor Blagovich. “We already fooled all those idiots in South Dakota about my health. Screw them. Now fix it so I can install my son as state’s top prosecutor.”

8:22 — when Brendan is US Attorney, will he investigate the corruption/nepotism involved in his appointment?

Anybody that thinks Tim will run again is just plain wrong.

if there was anyone in the media who had any cojones they’d call out the Johnson dynasty about this and get some answers

I love how the right wingnuts come out of the woodwork on this US Attorney slot but were silent when Karl Rove instigated the firing of 11 qualified US Attorneys around the country to install his political cronies and pure hacks. Not a word from them then.

They just have a problem with people in wheelchairs not people without morals or ethics.

I love how the liberals can go ballistic over US Attorneys when there’s some way to bash Bush but when they are caught in their own scandal they can’t say a word. More change you can believe in people.

It’s only a scandal if it is illegal, you know, like trying to get a hummer in an airport bathroom.

And none of the rightwingnuts want to talk about the governor’s nepotism. Why is the governor’s son working in state government? Why is the governor’s brother an executive in state government? Why are so many of the governor’s family members working for the state?

Brendan Johnson hasn’t been appointed to anything, but we got us a scandal going on right now in state government with Rounds nepotism. Take all of your righteous indignation and direct it at the nepotist-in-chief. Go get ‘em tigers!

12:01 or maybe selling a senate seat!

1:25 – or how distilling laws got changed so Mike’s brothers could make whiskey.

This Rove and US Attorneys thing is getting tiresome. A new administration can, and does, replace (fire) all US attys. For some reason the Bush Adm. let them keep their jobs, and when they finally did fire them, everybody went bat–it. They at least had a job for a few more years.

2:25, if you will admit that the Brendan Johnson thing is nepotism at its worst, since there certainly have to be SOME qualified Democrat lawyers in this state besides Brendan, then yeah, I’ll get on board with nitpicking Mikey to death.

It’s not like Brendan will be mining hazardous materials in our state, using taxpayer funded airplanes for personal use, making whiskey, promoting supplemental insurance for medicare as governor (while still holding stock in your own insurance agency), handing millions in no-bid contracts to campaign contributors, or wasting money on a laptop program that has failed miserably.

Maybe when you can stick a few of those things to Brendan, then we can talk.

Brenda Johnson looks foolish in that KELO thing PP put up….does anybody believe that baloney that “my Dad will have nothing to do with this”???

Yes.

4:38

I find that people who don’t take others at their word
are usually those who can’t be trusted themselves.

Oh please, Bill, then I suppose you took Blagojevich at his word last week? What a ridiculous statement.

Little TJ saying that “Dad will have nothing to do with this” is total BS. It’s either dishonesty or pure idiocy to say something like that. What does he think we’re stupid?? That’d be a YES. In that same statement, Little TJ stated that Daddy would have nothing to do with it other than submission of his name, then lobbying etc. WTH?? Which is it?

Billy 4:42 “I find that people who don’t take others at their word are usually those who can’t be trusted themselves.” That’s the same rationale and belief used by the dems that got TJ reelected in the first place. If that’s your motto, then you must be a sheep and shearing time is coming…. Yobama’s already got his clippers sharpened and TJ can’t for the life of himself remember where he put them….

Duh and Marsh,

So you guys don’t believe in the rule of reciprocity?

(The golden rule?)

Interesting.

All you sore loser Republicans are just elitists. The overwhelming majority of us stupid South Dakotans voted for Tim Johnson. Too bad we weren’t smart enough to see through Tim’s scam, right?

Billy: Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Anon 11:17. Not sore loser, citing facts, albeit things you don’t want to hear. Johnson is ineffective plain and simple. There are more qualified individuals for US Attorney, plain and simple. The way Rounds handles business is just as bad. He’s a self-absorbed idiot where nepotism is his middle name. If your not from Pierre and not one of his 1,860 relatives, you suck. The Governor’s Hunt is nothing but a Rounds family reunion. SD business as usual.

Flem – I guess when it comes to politician’s, I take about everything almost all of them say with a grain of salt. In my opinion, they are all in the “fox guarding the henhouse” category once they have been in DC for a while. That’s why I’m a firm believer in term limits.

“Johnson is ineffective plain and simple.”

Yet the candidate the SD GOP put up, not only LOST but got his ass handed to him. The only thing I find ‘ineffective’ is the SD GOP’s ability to recruit decent candidates.

Still in denial – but that is typical of the GOP, it’s everyone’s else’s fault but their own.

Duh and Mellow. I hear ya.

Detroit:

I had to take some Malox and antiseizure medicine before I typed what I’m about to, but I partially agree with your immediately preceeding statement that: “The only thing I find ‘ineffective’ is the SD GOP’s ability to recruit decent candidates.” TJ is ineffective, usually has been and always will be but the GOP’s inability to find some viable candidate, raise funds and instruct him/her to come out swinging at Johnson with a scorched earth policy attacking everything from TJ’s policies, ineffectiveness as a Senator (90 out of 100), success by association by clinging to Daschle’s accomplishments while Daschle was in office, inability to lead, connections with the banking fiasco, his hair and his dog is indeed the GOP’s fault.

They tried to simply tip-toe around the fact that TJ is a pile of goo and a waste of tax payer money. They played nice and lost. Lesson unfortunately not probably learned.

Well we have to take care of TJ’s health costs and pension until he dies anyway, whether he is in office or not, so we might as well be getting something for our money.

Detroit L – As a lifelong Christian (and die-hard Republican) I have to say that your comments are very said. You are clearly a very hateful person who has serious issues with your own self worth. That is the only explanation for your last post.

I will pray for you – but please seek some counseling.

I don’t know this Brendan Johnson but I don’t really see how this is such a big deal – especially with everything else going on in the country. If anything, these comments just seem mean, petty, personal and vindictive.

Maybe this is why we keep losing elections.

Anon- maybe you should seek counseling for your identity crisis. It’s easy for you to come on here and judge me without revealing your identity. Does that make you feel all important? I call it being ‘cynical’ not ‘hateful’ there is a difference. Sorry you don’t understand sarcasm and satire, but you did admit to being a Republican, so it does not surprise me. If this nation was more cynical we would not be in the shape we are in now.

You keep losing elections because everything you touch turns to s**t and people are tired of eating it.

Duh.

How is Detriot L. revealing your identity? For all we know you could have been on the “wheel of felons” and probably have.

Detroit L.

I’m sorry for not revealing my true name earlier. It’s me, your brother.

With Love,

Detroit M.

Clean your room and QUIT using my Ipod.

I guess you guys have trouble clicking on a link that goes directly to my website that identifies my real name, but once again, no surprise, you are Republicans who have trouble grasping the internets and how they work.

I clicked on buttheads.com, morons.org and sexuallyfrustrateddweeb.com and nothing. Guess the mystery continues….

Did your name come up instead of mine?
