SDPB Year in Review recap. I wasn’t too bad, was I?

I’m rested and ready to blog again after my night in Vermillion serving as one of the panelists for South Dakota Public TV’s Focus Program “Year in Review.”  And just like last year, it was a hoot.

For those of you concerned about the myth of human contribtions to global warming, I picked up Todd Epp on the way down to Vermillion and we “carpooled,” since I had some spare room in my suburban.  Stephanie Rissler, who had invited us, was as warm and vivacious as always and briefed us before the show, which included Todd, Myself, Carson Walker of the Associated Press, and Paul Guggenheim of SD Public Radio as panelists, with South Dakota Public Broadcasting’s Richard Muller as host.

Good show and interesting topics. I wasn’t half as snarky as I’d planned on being when the question on George McGovern came up, but I thought the public broadcasting guys were going to lynch me when I questioned his continued relevance. Sorry, I’m not sure why a failed presidential candidate from over 35 years ago is invoked as a demigod in gushing by liberal Democrats.   It must be because the criticisms of him which arose in the ‘72 race regarding “Amnesty, abortion, and the legalization of pot” seem to be in vogue again with that same crowd.

What else did I also got a chance to spout off about which will irk some people? The only other one that stands out would probably be how too many Republicans were “drinking the income tax Kool-aid” comment in reference to the plan approved last year to tax ag-land based on it’s income. Yes, I’m still deathly opposed to it. As I mentioned on the show, at the very least, we’re creating a tax on production which will come back to haunt our SD Manufacturers at some point in the future when ag producers start complaining about “why they have to pay a production tax, and those big guys don’t.”

Or the code of conduct being a meaningless gesture by a legislature who has too many of them.  That one might inflame some people.  But I think that’s about it.

Silly highlights? Since we were live, the drunk guy who called in and made the “Osama, Obama, and Yo Mama” comment would have to be #1, although my kids particularly enjoyed it when I stuck my tongue out at Todd Epp, in response to him complaining that “I stole his topic.”

Otherwise, I thought it was an excellent show, and I enjoyed the dickens out of myself.  Thanks again to Stephanie for the invitation, and Richard for tolerating me.

Yeah, maybe next year they will retire you two party lackeys and have Cory and I on instead so we can talk about REAL topics.

What? Like how you think Folkerts sucks? Boooring.

That’s a good one to start with.

Did Epp pitch in with some gas money?

Todd is the Democrat, remember? I’m sure he threw in gas money.

Pat, you and Todd were the stars! Ten years ago a blog was something a cat did with hairballs and now you are the top of game in politics. Any idea what the next 1o will bring?

Windsor:

Liberal Democrat that I am, I did feel guilty and offered to pay Pat some gas money. Compassionate conservative that Pat is, he helped a brother out and refused. ;)

Thanks for the nice comments. Though I think some of our readers believe we are still only on a par with cat hairballs.

And Pat really did steal my thunder about Hildebrand. Nice that I’ve helped Pat become so open minded.

rats, I missed you guys. I assume that there will be a rerun on Sunday perhaps. SDPB extra info for programs on the digital system shows only “DTV Program”, so what comes next is a surprise. Somebody somewhere must be on vacation.

Merry Christmas. Oh, and with regard to this:

It must be because the criticisms of him which arose in the ‘72 race regarding “Amnesty, abortion, and the legalization of pot” seem to be in vogue again with that same crowd.

Or perhaps after what Nixon and Bush, sub2 gave us, the idea of what McGovern might have done looks really good by comparison. Mark Felt died. Deep Throat memories of Watergate…chains rattling around the GOP Christmas tree in the middle of the night. Sleep tight.

I heard somebody today say it was a real shame that McGovern got beaten. I suspect McGovern might say that the real shame was that thousands of US soldiers, sailors, and airmen died needlessly in Vietnam only to be followed up with a needless war based on Neocon lies and fractured theory that has wasted over 4,000 US lives in Iraq.

is this on the web? I have always wondered who was cuter.

#9, which who is cuter you wonder than what? PP cuter than Epp? Not sure myself, I haven’t seen the show (yet…hope it does repeat or Pat sells DVDs) but my guess is Epp is cuter (this is MANLY admiration, mind you) but Powers is smarter.

Wait. Maybe “smarter” was too strong of a word to use and was unfair to Mr. Epp.

How about “Powers is more correct more of the time.”

For the past 7 years, I have had people across this supposedly red state ask me just how much better off we would be had McGovern been elected.
He continues to be relevant because he continues his work, along with Robnert Dole of Kansas, in tryhing to address isues of world hunger and poverty.
He continues to be relevant because of his example of public service.
He continues to be an example because he has the capacity to inspire a desire to be of public service for the betterment of the community at large.
If you can say that about the outgoing frat boy and his thug running mate in 35 years from now, YOUR frat boy snarkiness will be justified.
Didn’t see the SDPB show, but I’m sure you were just cute as a button. After all, why would you lie about such a thing?

McGovern has always been a shameless self-promoter and his irrelevance was underscored when he endorsed Hillary Clinton in Iowa and it didn’t matter a bit. Same in SD.

“is this on the web? I have always wondered who was cuter.” I would have to give that title to Todd. He is taller then Pat and has a chin.
