From the Capitol Journal:

β€œTo unveil a fourth-floor remodel at the same time as we may be experiencing some cuts is not good timing whatsoever,” Gray said. β€œI think we all fully realize that. The reality is those decisions were made in previous years, frankly going back to 2004 or so.”

Rounds said he was the only legislator to vote against the project.

Is this referring to the already completed remodel? Or something else?

Gray might be wrong.
Look at this: http://legis.state.sd.us/sessions/2007/bills/HB1100enr.htm

In 2007, the Legislature with overwhelming support passed a bill and appropriated themselves $408K to remodel 4th floor. Now, two years later, they’ve spent $2 MILLION DOLLARS and bought BIG SCREEN TVS and GOLD DRINKING FOUNTAINS?

What’s up with that?

Here it is. Looks like they decided just last year to pull another million and change out of reserves to buy the nice TVs.

Go back to 2004 & 2005 when the DCI building was built. One of the goals back then was to take over space on the Capitol’s fourth floor. And the first bill to take that space over was in 2006.

Crud, take a look at your boss’s office.
