PIERRE – The South Dakota Republican Party released a new video on its website StopStephanie.com today. It is the second video the party has released as part of an ongoing effort to educate South Dakotans about the left-wing voting record of Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.
“When Stephanie Herseth Sandlin promised ‘real change’ while running for reelection in 2008, South Dakotans weren’t expecting that change to mean more out-of-control spending, borrowing and tax increases,” said South Dakota Republican Party Executive Director Lucas Lentsch. “Nor did they expect to have Herseth Sandlin helping ram through Congress a bill that would strip workers of the right to secret ballots in labor union elections and place binding arbitration requirements on businesses during labor negotiations.”
Herseth Sandlin is to the left of former Senator George McGovern on the issue of ‘card check‘ legislation. He called the measure “disturbing.”
“Herseth Sandlin’s rhetoric in South Dakota does not match her voting record in Washington where she supports liberal Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on more than nine out of every ten votes and is teaming up with Pelosi to provide a huge pay-off to their Big Labor donors,” said Lentsch. Labor unions that would benefit from ‘card check’ legislation have donated more than $1 million to Herseth Sandlin according to OpenSecrets.org.
In a sad attempt to gloss over her pitiful record on spending, Herseth Sandlin keeps touting ‘pay-as-you-go’ or ‘paygo’ rules, even appearing with Nancy Pelosi and President Obama to congratulate herself. “Paygo is a bad joke,” said Lucas Lentsch. “Herseth Sandlin wants to talk about fiscal discipline after she voted for unprecedented spending and borrowing. It’s time for South Dakotans to get to know the real Stephanie.”
Some recent coverage of Herseth Sandlin’s oft-touted ‘paygo’ plan:
“President Barack Obama On Tuesday Called For Legally Binding Measures To Enforce Government Spending Restraint, But His Congressional Allies-And His Own Actions-Threatened To Undermine His Message Of Fiscal Discipline.” (”Democrats Mix Signals On Deficit,” The Wall Street Journal, 6/10/09) <http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124455428213397897.html#printMode>
“Yet The President Has Also Signed A $787-Billion Stimulus Bill And Committed More Than $60 Billion To Bail Out Chrysler Llc And General Motors Corp. The Deficit Is Projected To Balloon To $1.8 Trillion In The Fiscal Year That Ends Sept. 30.” (”Democrats Mix Signals On Deficit,” The Wall Street Journal, 6/10/09) <http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124455428213397897.html#printMode>
“But The Administration Is Leaving Itself Sizable Loopholes. For example, the cost of extending most of former President George W. Bush’s tax cuts wouldn’t have to be offset, nor would the cost of legislation keeping the alternative minimum tax from expanding. And Congress wouldn’t have to offset the cost of legislation-passed every year-to ensure that planned cuts to physicians under Medicare don’t actually happen. Those exemptions spare lawmakers from having to find $2.5 trillion in offsetting spending cuts or tax increases over the next decade.” (”Democrats Mix Signals On Deficit,” The Wall Street Journal, 6/10/09) <http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124455428213397897.html#printMode>
“But Critics Of Paygo Say It Is Not Simple At All, Because Congress Has A Long History Of Waiving Its Requirements. And White House Officials Conceded Mr. Obama’s Proposal Would Not Put A Dent In The Federal Deficit. It Would Only Keep It From Getting Bigger.” (”Obama Aims To Revive ‘Pay As You Go’,” The New York Times, 6/10/09) <http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/10/us/politics/10obama.html?ref=todayspaper&pagewanted=print>
Obama’s PAYGO Announcement Came “Just One Day After Mr. Obama Lauded The Billions Of Dollars His Administration Was Spending To Save Or Create What The White House Estimated As 600,000 New Jobs This Summer.” “But the announcement – just one day after Mr. Obama lauded the billions of dollars his administration was spending to save or create what the White House estimated as 600,000 new jobs this summer – quickly turned into Round 2 of an escalating war between the White House and Republicans over Mr. Obama’s claims of fiscal responsibility.” (”Obama Aims To Revive ‘Pay As You Go’,” The New York Times, 6/10/09) <http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/10/us/politics/10obama.html?ref=todayspaper&pagewanted=print>
New PAYGO Rules Would Be Over A Ten Year Plan, Not Year To Year. “Critics also said Democrats had a poor track record with Paygo. The old version of the law required Congress to make across-the-board cuts in entitlement spending at the end of any year in which the Congressional Budget Office found that the law’s requirements had not been met. (Under Mr. Obama’s plan, legislation would have to be paid for over a 10-year period, not year by year.)” (”Obama Aims To Revive ‘Pay As You Go’,” The New York Times, 6/10/09) <http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/10/us/politics/10obama.html?ref=todayspaper&pagewanted=print>
“But Even As Some Democrats Applauded The Plan, Others Complained That It Would Give A Free Pass To Expensive Policies That Would Sink The Nation Trillions Of Dollars Deeper Into The Red Over The Next 10 Years.” (”Some Democrats Warn Of Loophole In Obama’s Pay-As-You-Go Rules,” The Washington Post, 6/10/09) <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/09/AR2009060901337.html>
“One Big Difference Between Obama’s Proposal And The Clinton-Era Rules, However, Is That Obama Would Exempt An Array Of Expensive Policies Currently In Effect.” (”Some Democrats Warn Of Loophole In Obama’s Pay-As-You-Go Rules,” The Washington Post, 6/10/09) <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/09/AR2009060901337.html>
Independent Analysts Say That Exceptions In The New Law Make PAYGO Rules Impractical. “Some independent analysts who support PAYGO rules objected to the loophole. “This is like quitting drinking, but making an exception for beer and hard liquor,” said Maya MacGuineas, president of the bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.” (”Some Democrats Warn Of Loophole In Obama’s Pay-As-You-Go Rules,” The Washington Post, 6/10/09) <http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/09/AR2009060901337.html>
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) Is Skeptical Of The New PAYGO Rules. “And while the proposal found favor in the House, it faced serious obstacles in the Senate, where several key senators said they would oppose it. “I’m not for waiving PAYGO for $3.5 trillion of items, much of which I think ought to be paid for,” said Senate Budget Committee chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.). “I don’t think at this point we can afford not to pay for those very large expenditures.”" (”Some Democrats Warn Of Loophole In Obama’s Pay-As-You-Go Rules,” The Washington Post, 6/10/09)

With the new media, we get to see how our elected officials vote! They can’t hide behind the: what I say here and how I vote are the same.
We get to see the Truth, not what the Argus wants us to see.
Sandlin is and always will be a Liberal. She has already forgotten where she lived. She is a DC resident.
I would really like to watch some of you boys debate Stephanie. I bet she would hand you your asses and have you believing it was strawberry shortcake.
BF,
I doubt she’ll be debating any of us from this blog, but I imagine she’ll be debating someone well versed in her record during the next election season. That’s the debate that will count.
it does not matter what Princess Stephanie says, Fleming will ALWAYS DEFEND AND PROMOTE HER. it doesn’t matter what a reasonable critic might say about Stephanie, Fleming will ALWAYS TRASH THE CRITIC.
I would pay $1,000 to watch Troy Jones take her a part piece by piece. Seriously Bill, My dad can beat up your dad is the best you can do?:)
Bill, did Sandlin debate anyone? Oh that is right she ducked the debates. Why, probably to try and keep the truth from the voters.
Why didn’t Whalen, Lien, or Wetzhisname take it to Steph like Lentsch is doing?
Keep it up Lentsch you are quickly becoming a rock star in the party!
Secondly are the only people who know about what the SD GOP says bloggers and insiders or is this stuff getting out to the public???
Braden: GOP Health Care Proposal is a Joke
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GOP Health Care Proposal is a Bad Joke.
Brookings- Braden was watching the TV yesterday and discovered that the Republican health reform ‘plan’ was 4 pages long. It contained no budget, no cost estimate, no numbers of any kind. But it did contain some fancy diagrams. Braden burst into laughter.
Minutes later, upon discovering that this was not a fake news show, and that this was indeed the Republican health care proposal, Braden’s laughter turned immediately into tears.
Braden also noticed that Rep. Boehner was looking a little more orange than usual and speculated why that might be, as human beings are usually not that color.
Like her or not, I have seen her take industry leaders to the floor just questioning them on their own business which one would think they would know better than SHS. Doesn’t mean she is using those cells for the best purpose of the USA.
Just like the dems took down Sarah Palin when she seemed poised to reach the top. We all felt the constant criticism was below the belt. Now the Good Ol’ Boys Club is out for Sandlin blood. She’s got you worried that she is going to be our next Gov. The worse thing about it is she’s very smart and she is a female! Oh, and the Noem talk, give me a break, that one is any empty vessel.
I think she is getting promoted by Obama. She can’t vote this liberal and keep getting elected in SD.
Braden, have you seen the Dem’s health bill. About a foot thick. And they want it done immediately. Remind you of something else? (in case you forget, the stimulus bill).
Mr. Epp: I can’t comment on your new site (apparently I’m google impared or something) but keep up the babes and stuff. Today’s 3 posts were OK, but not as great as yesterdays. I find your local twists interesting. Keep it up. And sorry for the OT post Mr. PP but I had no other way to let Mr. Epp know.
So more ontopic here: Any post that’s 4 page downs just to get through the cut and paste and is about steffie, even if it has a dozen replies, clearly isn’t worth my time to read.
Steffie: Bad
Epp’s Babes and Takes: Good
Sibby: eh
“Braden, have you seen the Dem’s health bill. About a foot thick.”
Springer, what sort of speed reader do you suppose they’ll hire to chatter through that? Or will they use a text-to-speech computer program?
Politicians, please take note: I do not think your recent shenanigans are one bit funny.
PP,
The more on Steffi the better. You are the lead media source in SD pointing out her record in D.C.
Keep up the good work.
I hope all of you click on SDWC paypall button, I just did. This is one of the few places we can actually get the real news and most of the time faster than the other outlets.
Thanks Pat!
“Braden, have you seen the Dem’s health bill. About a foot thick”
Right, I would expect providing health insurance for 47 million uninsured people would be a long bill. And it has numbers, estimated costs, a plan to cover uninsured Americans, etc. The Republican plan has no numbers, no cost estimate, no plan to pay for it, and no description of how it would provide coverage. Just 4 pages of diagrams.
So Republican Congress, if we shouldn’t do the Dems plan, what should we do? So far, the leading answers seem to be, “We dunno,” and “Nothing.”
Braden-Own a business, offer health insurance, receive treatment.
Now go through the VA (not in Sioux Falls, but in Chicago) get treatment or better yet, go to England. YOU man of little experience, you speak of which you know very little of. There is not one person in this country that doesnt have health care, they cannot be turned down service at and non-profit hospital (which is basically all) plus the community health centers. They may not have insurance, BUT THEY HAVE HEALTH CARE, stop saying they dont have access to to health care.
Ymous is right! Remember back in 2007 when President Bush said: “people have access to health care in America. After all, you just go to an emergency room.”
And the government then acts as payer of last resort! See! We already HAVE government sponsored health care for all! And you liberal democrats don’t even realize it!
I hope she runs for the US Senate so that John can defeat her!!! That would be the best for SD GOP!
How close do you think it will be flemming and Moses?
8:35: ‘This is one of the few places we can actually get the real news and most of the time faster than the other outlets.’
Bwaaahahaha! Now THAT is the funniest thing you’ve written in a long time, feasant. Real news on this website, ha ha ha!
Actually, I like our Republican PAYGET system better!
You know, where they pay and we get them what they want!
Certainly does a good job of keeping the money flowing in the right direction doesn’t it!
Fishing: You mean like Chris Dodd and Countrywide, Bawney Fwank saving of his favorite car dealership from the hit list and infusing his favorite financial institution with taxpayer money, William “Cold Cash” Jefferson?
Yes, 8:47, that is what I meant. My mistake….I should of said Pay/GET system of both democrats and Republicans!

Chickens comming home to roost! She is doing in a few years what Daschle took 20+ years to do. The current media allows for information to get to the people much sooner. Card check could be her downfall. It was a huge mistake and they didnt need her vote, she just got to full of herself.
