Herseth’s hubby sells home at a loss.
Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth Sandlin apparently isn’t doing well in the housing market. Reports were recently filed that show she (I’m assuming actually her husband) sold property in Texas for a loss:
And Diaz-Balart is not alone among his Congressional colleagues. According to annual financial disclosure reports, a number of House lawmakers sold real estate at a loss in 2008.
The financial reports include only rental, business or other real estate that produces income and not personal homes. Under disclosure rules, Members are not required to report their primary residence or even vacation or other secondary homes, so long as no portion of those properties is rented out.
and….
Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (D-S.D.) also reported selling a Marshall, Texas, home for between $250,000 and $500,000 but did not list any income from the sale.
“I can confirm that there was not a profit on the sale of the home,” Herseth Sandlin spokesman Russ Levsen said. The home, which is owned by Herseth Sandlin’s husband, ex-Rep. Max Sandlin (D-Texas), is listed in Herseth Sandlin’s previous financial disclosure with a value of between $250,000 and $500,000, but no rental income is listed.
Although lawmakers are required to report profit from the sale of real estate that generates income, the financial reports do not require the disclosure of losses from property. Instead, lawmakers mark a box that indicates “none” in the income section and list the total amount of the sale in another section of the report.
Together with the wide ranges of values and transactions listed on the forms, the reports give almost no indication of a shortfall’s size when a Member loses money in a sale.

Your hate-crush on Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin is getting a little weird. Her and her husband sell their home at a loss, and that’s news? If she sold it at a profit, that would be news.
Braden –
I would say your spin is getting a little weird.
I write on political news. Our elected representative was mentioned in a news report. I noticed it, and so I wrote a blurb on it. I imagine we will see it mentioned in the RCJ & Argus within a week’s time. What’s the matter? I noticed it first and it makes you grumpy?
Don’t like it? Don’t visit the website. Seriously.
When it comes to politics, I live by a quote that my high school government teacher told me, “Nobody on your side is as good as you think, and nobody on the other side is as bad as you think.”
It seems to me that you feel Herseth-Sandlin represents evil incarnate. I frequent this site, and have never once seen a positive story on her. Instead, you take a shot at her because she sells her home at a loss, an all too common event in today’s market? It just seems to me that selling a home at a loss is something that occurs hundreds of times a day in this country, and not something that proves anything about a politician.
I know you disagree with most, if not all, of the things Herseth-Sandlin does, and that’s fine. I know you desperately want to see her out of office, and that’s fine too. I expect to see non-stop rantings about Obama and Stephanie’s ‘commie-fascist-socialism’ on the blogs of Sibby and the ultra-rightwingers, but you seem to be much more reasonable. It just begins to feel like the boy who cried wolf when you see how horrible Herseth-Sandlin is every day.
Maybe you meant it as just an interesting news story, but I took it as just a political cheap-shot. If that’s not how you meant it, I apologize.
I think your government teachers quote meant ‘don’t take things at face value’ not ‘everyone is equally evil.’
I think Stephanie is looking forward to running for Govenor in 2010. Most people think that, who follow politics. I haven’t seen her make a decision that hasn’t been profitable for her career and being a Representative of South Dakota, that’s not her job. I don’t see that as a good quality!
If you can’t comprehend the politicians you’ve voted for might be sellng you down the river and if they are you can fire them, you shouldn’t have the right to vote. They represent you!
Why shouldn’t a Republican blogger keep an critical eye on the Princess, Braden? your lefty bloggers friends rarely say anything nice about Thune, for instance…Go elsewhere if you don’t want to read stuff about Sfeffi that isn’t starry-eyed.
“It seems to me that you feel Herseth-Sandlin represents evil incarnate.”
AWWWWWWW. WAAAHHHHHHH. We put up with 8 years of you libs talking about the former president in much more vitriolic terms (and you STILL DO AND YOU WON FOR CHRIST’S SAKE).
It it our turn now. And guess what. We will continue to call out Obama and his radical policies that will destroy this country. And Steffi when she sides with him. Get used to it, pal.
Now, if you guys could still get Talon news with its unbiased information on house prices, you might be able to put together a REALLY IRRELEVANT story.
In any case, seems to me that Herseth-Sandlin selling a house at a loss is interesting whether or not you are a Democrat or Republican and presenting it may or may not demonstrate truly evil, sinister malice. Only the Shadow behind SDWC knows for sure.
He doesn’t qualify under Game Fish and Parks rules to get a resident hunting license. Ask Adam Vinnatari, he has lived here longer than Max and he is not a resident according to SDGFP.

If you don’t use your own money to buy a property, then you sell the property for less than you bought it for, have you sold it at a loss?
A)Yes, it’s a shame you couldn’t get more out of the seller.
B)No, You are actually creating wealth.
C)Yes, All money should be my money.
D)No, Democrat actions are not contained by the boundaries of morals, ethics or laws; and can be easily explained to the confused by the MSM.
I got this from the Washington, DC Real Estate Exam.
