One legislator wants the petition measure to fail….

At least one legislator is weighing in on the smoking petition flap…..

A South Dakota lawmaker who successfully pushed for a statewide smoking ban is optimistic about the latest developments. Late Thursday afternoon, ban supporters filed paperwork challenging opponent petitions to get the issue to a statewide vote.

Senate Majority Leader Dave Knudson was one of the lawmakers who introduced the ban. He’s hopeful it’ll go into effect.

Read it here.

I suppose it would be bad form to comment on someone who is in the same contest I have a candidate in…..  No matter how much I find government intervention and nanny statism distasteful.

So I’ll just keep it to myself.

PP – Why are you side-stepping it? Dave Knudson is a flaming liberal. He’s a Democrat who decided one day to put on a ill-fitting Republican cardigan.

GO read Bob Ellis:

http://www.dakotavoice.com/200512/20051208_1.html

When the South Dakota Mainstream Coalition was initially formed in June 2005, many people, especially Republicans, had lots of questions. Since then, few of those questions have been answered.

The Coalition was founded by seven South Dakota Republican senators: Ed Olson of Mitchell, Tom Dempster of Sioux Falls, Dave Knudson of Sioux Falls, Stan Adelstein of Rapid City, Royal ?Mac? McCracken of Rapid City, J.P. Duniphan of Rapid City, and Duane Sutton of Aberdeen.

The group of so-called moderates formed the Coalition because they felt their disagreement with the Republican base on a number of issues was not welcome.

The voting records of the founding members of the coalition may also provide insight into what positions the coalition is likely to take:

* HB 1166 to provide information to women seeking abortions: all founding members voted against the bill
* HB 1233 to form a task force to study the impact of abortion: Knudson voted against
* HB 1249 to automatically ban abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned: only Duniphan voted for
* HJR 1001 to amend SD constitution to protect marriage: all voted against.
* SB 193 dealing with abortions on minors: Knudson voted against
* HB 1191 abortion restriction which almost passed in 2004: opposed by Duniphan, Dempster, Knudson, McCracken, Sutton, Ed Olson and Mel Olson
* HCR 1001 to abolish death tax: opposed by Ed and Mel Olson, and Dempster
* SB 180 to repeal video lottery: opposed by Duniphan, McCracken, Ed Olson
* SB 182 prohibiting capital punishment of juvenile murderers: Dempster, Knudson, Ed Olson, Duane Sutton supported the prohibition
* SCR 3 in support of gun shows: Knudson voted against

Enough said.

I think I’ve commented on Dave’s voting record before. If anyone is interested, they can do a Google search on my opinion.

Republican Dave, speaks again…

Let’s just call them the “Red Dog Coalition”. These RINO’s have ruined the brand of the Republican party in South Dakota. Their Nanny State agenda belongs with the Democrats. I certainly hope there are some real Republicans who can challenge them in the primary and I certainly DO NOT want one of them as our Governor.

William –

I’m assuming you’re using sarcasm, since Republican isn’t any term I’d associate with Dave.

Flaming Liberal? Yes.

Social Engineer? Yes.

Pro-choice, gay marriage supporting, anti-gun legislator? Yes.

But Republican? That’s a tough association to make stick.

I suppose it would be bad form to comment on someone who is in the same contest I have a candidate in…

So you just post this and allow your comment section army to do it for you. Of course we all know you have no ulterior motive…

Go for it Dave you have my vote!

“I suppose it would be bad form to comment on someone who is in the same contest I have a candidate in…”

Bwahahahaha! PP worried about bad form!? Bwaaaaaahaha!

BW

I can’t help how people feel about candidates, including my own.

Speaking of your own PP.

Rather than just criticize the guy you don’t like.

As a Doctor and candidate tell us what is Munsterman’s position on the Smoking Ban?

(As Dave’s consultant, I’d hope you could research it yourself without my help. But if not, go to the website at munstermanforgovernor.com and send Scott a note. -PP)

yeah, what’s Munsterman’s position?
and how’s he on the absolute pro-life position? Cause if he’s not “absolutely” pro-life, he’s no different than Knudson and Daugaard.

(I’d invite you to feel free to go to munstermanforgovernor.com, where you can send him a note and ask him. -PP)

I like Rick Skorupski comment on “Red Dog Coalition”. These RINO’s have ruined the brand of the Republican party in South Dakota.

Ok bloggers, let’s start a list! Which Republicans (RINO’s) do you want to nominate for membership in the “Red Dog Coalition”? It’s obvious most of us put Dave Knudson in the Coalition. Any others?

As I look at all the chicken sh*t anonymoos with great statements and strong opinions, it looks like just more, “chicken sh*t”! Too flawed or lazy to type your first name or any name and consistently use it?

Stan Adelstein, Mike Rounds, Tom Dempster, Bob Faehn, Val Rausch and Tim Rave would be a good start.

Les, which posts are you talking about?

Since these bans are all about health, they should be required to put the Chantix and Zyban warning on all of the government issued “No smoking” signs to prevent lawsuits by forcefully coercing residents into using a dangerous product.

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/fda-orders-harsher-warnings-on-zyban-chantix-2009711538360

First things first, Bob.

Chantix and Zyban may make some people want to off themselves, but smoking and second hand smoke can actually get the job done — not just to the smoker, but to the people at the next table as well. It’s like a slow motion suicide bomber.

First nominees into Rick Skorupski Republican “Red Dog Coalition (RINO’s)”: Stan Adelstein, Mike Rounds, Tom Dempster, Bob Faehn, Val Rausch and Tim Rave

Wow….that’s some “heavy people” nominated! Does this make them “charter member”?

Do any of you want to nominate any other Republican legislator to this “Red Dog Coalition”?

Look at Les calling out people using anonymity or pseudoynms and here is is just using “Les.” Les, you should start using your full name before getting after “anonymoos” like you call them.

While questioning his Republican bona fides, let’s remember that Knudson was elected by his GOP colleagues in the Senate to be the leader of their caucus. It’s not as though he is a Lincoln Chaffee/Susan Collins/Olympia Snowe. He is the leader of the party in the state senate. He may differ from the orthodoxy on some views, but he has done the job of keeping the majority in the right hands and away from Heidepreim and Nesselhuf.

As for the main point of PP’s original post, is it at all surprising that he “is hopeful the ban goes into effect.” He voted for the ban. This really isn’t news. Moreover, I would again take issue with PP’s view that the ban is a form of nanny statism. I still believe there is a rational argument that the case for the smoking ban in enclosed spaces of public accommodation can be made through conservative principles. On this fourth of July, let us not forget the difference between simple license (ability to smoke wherever/whenever we want) and true liberty (the freedom from assault on our persons).

Read my Post Mike. Use your first name or any name consistently. Anyone who has followed this blog or state politics would know who I am. Bill I was referring to the above posts from 9:18 and 9:51 among others.

I think Les might be right on this first name thing!

I am thinking that “Comment by Mike on July 4, 2009 @ 3:35 pm” is Governor MIKE Rounds!

Mike…..Mike…..is that you! Is it really you!

Governor Rounds on DakotaWarCollege! Fantastic!

Thanks Governor Mike Rounds
