This is certainly a non-story. Knudson was the prime sponsor of the bill in the Senate this year. If he’d have taken a pass on stating his beliefs, or said anything negative, he would have immediately been labeled a waffler. That would have gotten him more bad press than just re-stating what we already knew. Plus, 60-70% of the SD voters agree with him. He did the right thing…both in Pierre, and again now.

Since these bans are all about health, they should be required to put the Chantix and Zyban warning on all of the “No smoking” signs to prevent suicides and lawsuits by forcefully coercing people into using a dangerous product.

Does Scott Munsterman favor the smoking ban? Does Ken Knuppe? Dave Knudson very much favors the ban. It is very likely that Dennis Daugaard very much favors the ban, based on his record as a state senator (look at the legislation he sponsored).

TC, did you know that 70% of all smokers want to quit?

Also that most smokers are very concerned about exposing others to their second hand smoke?

Have you ever heard one smoker say that they wouldn’t vote for somebody because they smoked, or didn’t smoke, or had an opinion on smoking one way or another?

I don’t know, your argument that someone’s position on this issue could negatively effect them at election time seems kind of off the wall.

But maybe that’s just me.

His comment seems fairly innocuous as well as a restatement of his known position. I don’t see any harm in it, and don’t begrudge him (as TC does?) for commenting when asked on the matter. I also feel fairly confident that any polling would show he is on the popular side of the issue even within the SD GOP. (Granted “popular” does not necessarily mean “correct”).

I’m voting for Knudson and I believe he will win the GOP primary. He has shown huge amounts of support with his fundraising efforts and is a carismatic fellow.

Dave and De are fantastic people! (as are Daugaard and Munsterman) But Dave has the knowledge and experience to cut wasteful spending and bring south dakota back to greatness!

TC, I believe it is rather refreshing that he takes a stand on this issue. I believe it makes him look more decisive. Some people would hide, but he is taking a stand. Whether I agree with him or not, I can at least respect that.

He voted for it, so why not talk about it? He isn’t afraid of his record and neither should he. I’ve seen polls that show over 70% of South Dakotan’s support the ban.

At least Dave is honest! Most South Dakotans probably support the ban and I’d say it’s 50/50 in the GOP primary.

He can’t run from it so why not embrace it. Pol’s who are the most comfortable with there ideas and policies are definately the ones who put forth the most convincing effort.
