Oh, yippee. On the other half of the state and I’d have to pay for it. She needs open, free public meetings open to all. Period.

Let’s hope the Republican Party in our state will not participate in the embarrassing displays that have been made at public hearings in other states. We have a good brand going in South Dakota and this would muck it up very badly. In other words, Sibby stay home.

I find it interesting that the chamber doesnt know weither Herseth-Sandlin is a woman or a man. “The luncheon is informational and is not an endorsement of the candidate or any individual(s) appearing or speaking on his or her behalf.” Will we know who the candidate is at this point. In response to aHamilton, I think you must agree with the democratic leaders that people who use thier vioces to express the disapointment in thier legislators are unamerican. We must all remember how we came to be the United States of America, it wasnt by staying silent.

To all regressives who plan to attend, here are a few suggested rules for decorum.
1. Don’t drop your gun.
2. If you or your loved ones are receiving socialized Medicare or Veterans’ Health Administration medical care – don’t complain about sharing your good fortune with others, it’s bad form.
3. If you or your loved ones are receiving socialized Medicare or Veterans’ health benefits and you complain about the health bill – are you ready to walk-the-talk and do without Medicare or Veterans’ health care?
4. If you hurt yourself at the event while protesting the health care bill, don’t later accept donations to pay for your health care because you are uninsured.
5. Expect that this will be filmed. Ask yourself, how do I want my grandkids to remember me? Remember, you will die; film lives forever.

Boy Jon you are a real know it all.

Jon, your statements are ridiculous. How many people have brought a gun to a townhall meeting? People getting Medicare have paid into that system already. People getting VA health care have earned that care; in fact their sacrifice gave us the right to our freedom of speech. I would not have a problem with a system to insure the LEGAL uninsured, make private heatlh care portable state to state, and addressing tort reform. I have a huge problem with the gov’t completely taking over health care, now under the guise of insurance reform. If I get hurt at a meeting, I do have good insurance. And if I see a camera in my face, I would ask that it be turned off. Very few of the people criticizing this are doing it to get their face on TV or you tube; maybe its the libs who crave the attention and therefore think we all do. Incorrect.

We have a right to voice our concerns directly to Herseth adn all the rest of them, and to do it without paying for that right! Bring on some public meetings, please, pretty please, or pretty please with a cherry on top even. Just please acknowledge your responsibility to my right.

Dear Stephanie,

I have a series of questions for you, if you don’t mind.

First, why do you want to kill my grandma? That’s mean.

Second, how does one go about getting on one of Obama’s death panels?

I heard Obama’s health care plan is Kenyan witchcraft. Is that true?

Lastly, well this one isn’t really a question, but just make sure to keep your dirty government hands off my Medicare, ok?

Oh, uh, I dropped my 9mm, you wouldn’t happen to have it would you?

Springer, you’re right, they do have a right to voice their opinions. But if you saw someone at a war protest shouting that Bush planned 9/11 you would make fun of them wouldn’t you? The idea of government-run death panels is equally laughable.

Springer,
Here here!

Stephanie should make herself available to the general public to LISTEN to us!

Braden–no I wouldn’t make fun of someone shouting that Bush planned 9/11.

There is a big difference with shouting about something that has already happened (and your opinion of it) and having a public discussion about something that is yet to be decided if it will happen.

Braden:
You are a nut! Morons like you who think Bush planned 9/11 are just plain stupid. You are the same nut jobs who think Obama doesn’t have to show his birth certificate.

This is about Sandlin coming to SD to visit about ObamaCare and I am happy she is doing that. Hopefully the average SD citizen will have a chance to ask questions.

How many people have brought a gun to a townhall meeting?
So far that we know of: two; one in Arizona and one in New Hampshire. I’m just writing that if one has to cling to their gun, they shouldn’t drop it.

Just a question. Obviously she now has a schedule. Why won’t she put it on her website and let people know in advance so they can plan their schedules. Most all South Dakotan’s work and need to schedule these things. It does no good to call any of her ofices because all they say is it’s policy and they cannot tell, the scheduler is gone, the scheduler will call you back which never happens. Guess she really doesn’t want open meetings, just scheduled ones limited and controlled.

“You are a nut! Morons like you who think Bush planned 9/11 are just plain stupid.”

I don’t know how you got that I thought Bush planned 9/11. I don’t, obviously, but yes I would be beyond nutty if I thought that.

“You are the same nut jobs who think Obama doesn’t have to show his birth certificate.”

Haha. Birtherism is the definition of lunacy. You really couldn’t have a more one-sided argument.

Voter: “There is a big difference with shouting about something that has already happened (and your opinion of it) and having a public discussion about something that is yet to be decided if it will happen.”

Is there? I would say it is equally irrational and paranoid to believe that your government killed 3,000 of it’s citizens in a terror attack, as it is to believe your government is explicitely planning to start a death panel to kill old people. Both should land you in a room with padded walls, not a health care forum.

Springer: as you may have heard, a protester attended Obama’s rally carrying a gun and a sign, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.” The safety of Democratic legislators is becomming an issue. If she doesn’t release her schedule far in advance, I don’t think it is because she’s being conceited.

Jon: calling people “regressives” is a conversation ender. The far right is throwing enough mud, we don’t need more coming from the left.

Every citizen of the US should be protected, especially those in public office.

I couldn’t get a straight answer out of Herseth or Johnson last year either about public meetings. It has nothing to do with safety. It’s all about not wanting to have to answer tough questions and taking a public stand.

“It has nothing to do with safety. It’s all about not wanting to have to answer tough questions and taking a public stand.”

From a politician? Not giving straight answers?? NEVER….

Government-run health care is on it’s way unless we South Dakotans tell our elected officials to vote no. We don’t have to go very far to see a perfect and shameful example of government-run health care in the Indian Health Service. I invite anyone and everyone to visit an IHS facility in Rapid City, Pine Ridge, Eagle Butte, McLaughlin, Rosebud, etc… Long lines of people wait for even the most basic of care from providers who barely speak English. What a shame!

Dear Jon…where was your condescension and outrage when your radical liberal spiky-haired freak pals threw things and physically attacked conservative speakers, broke windows, crashed Masses…and when ACORN and union sympathizers took busloads of people to harrass private citizens because they worked for AIG?

Just wondering.

I called Ms. Herseth-Sandlin’s local west river office twice to find out when she would hold a public mtg. They finally reponded after the second call ( two days later) and I was told that her office doesn’t give out her schedule. We are to wait and see in the local media IF she will hold any mtg when & where etc. I hope that this luncheon with the Chamber will not count as an open public mtg. We should not have to pay $15 to hear her speak. Her duty as an elected official is to make herself available to answer questions and concerns we may have. I am waiting to see if she or Sen Johnson will do this. Could it be that the Blue Dogs have tried to cover all bases? If they appear to oppose the Health Care bill before the holiday and then never directly speak to the public– they may go back in Sept and vote for Obamacare. I hope this is not the case. I hope she will have open mtgs where citizens can voice their opinions and concerns about these very critical issues which we face. I hope she doesn’t think we are complacent — that time is over.

Voter, I agree with you that we should be promoting public discussions. But I don’t think that’s what we’re getting from all the shouters at townhalls. They don’t seem interested in discussing the pros and cons of these health care reform proposals. They only seem interested in completely shutting down the discussion.

There have been several conservatives discussing alternatives on these SDWC health reform discussions. Some of those ideas are worth looking at and discussing. I just wish we would see more of that.

“They don’t seem interested in discussing the pros and cons of these health care reform proposals”

Well, when the elected represemtatives give vague, uninformed or just talking points as answers, what do you expect? When electef representatives admit they haven’t read it and aren’t familiar with all the details, what do you expect?

Most of the elected officials don’t even know what all is contained in these bills. What has come to light has been for the most part been revealed by the people who are asking questions. And there is also a lot of double talk by the elected officials. They know that abortion will be funded — it just isn’t worded exactly like that. They know there are provisions for end of life ” counseling” — call it get ready for euthanasia or whatever you want. They know there will be rationing. They know that most will be forced onto the public plan. If people are upset– they should be. The best health care system in the world is about to be trashed. Fix the parts that need fixing but don’t screw up the rest. Of course, then you would be assuming that health care is really what this is all about. It is not. Get a clue– these people are leftists and they will push their agenda as fast as they can so while your head is spinning they can get something passed. What about the goons from the Unions that Obamacare is providing at the mtg. Go on Craigslist and see the ads for recruits.

As it turns out this event is no longer open to everyone. MEMBERS only and no one over 40! That’s right folks you have to pay to play. Anyone looking for their civil liberties? Herseth is walking all over them.

Recognize and implement components of successful, valid early intervention programs. ,
