NRCC weighs in on Herseth avoiding her constituents

Looks like more people are chiming on on Herseth taking the public out of a public forum…..

“The only thing Stephanie Herseth Sandlin should be avoiding is the Democrats’ devastating government-run healthcare scheme that would raise costs and force many South Dakota residents out of their current plan.  If Herseth Sandlin is too afraid to face her own constituents, how can they expect her to stand up to her party leaders’ on this increasingly unpopular proposal?” – Paul Lindsay, NRCC spokesman

Yes, it is too bad that our Congressmen won’t allow themselves the opportunity to be influenced by the constituents clamoring for face to face attention in wide open forums this month. I’m sure they would be very productive meetings, with the free flow of NEW ideas, discussions based on ACTUAL proposals and not manufactured red herring issues, and real solutions exchanged courteously and with respect for each other’s opinions. We South Dakotans are better behaved than those Iowans, and just think how helpful it was for Sen. Grassley to hear he should not be talking to the Democrats who could in the end control the direction this goes, or how much Sen. Harkins’ opinions were affected by the hour of “finger-pointing, shouting, arm-waving and even a reference to Nazi Germany…” at his meeting.

I’m sure that those opposed to any type of health care reform that would lessen their currently existing share of the federal pie in favor of those who die in our emergency rooms for lack of preventive care or who go into bankruptcy trying to pay their medical bills would be able to make excellent use of the congressmen’s time, and make these wild eyed South Dakota liberals see the error of their ways by the sheer logical power of their arguments, and the world would be a better place for the congressmen having spent their precious time in such pursuits.

They ought to follow the lead of other state politicians like West River GOP legislative candidates who make themselves available at every public forum, before and after election, whether or not they have credible opposition, so they can hear what their voters are thinking. Yes, indeed. And I don’t envy Michelle Rook one bit.

If you republicans want a town hall meeting on employee free choice act I would be glad to get the union people. would love to hear John Thune in front of 300 or 400 union members talking about how bad unions are.We are his constiutents to.

Props to PP on getting some eyes on this! Looks like everyone is starting to take notice. Good job!

You be sure to let me know if her or Johnson are going to have any open meetings. I will get my crew together and get a whole lot of signs there. But I know I have to be careful of how I word them after seeing this in the news:

“There were signs comparing President Barack Obama to a Nazi and showing him with an Adolf Hitler-style mustache, but federal officials believe another sign referencing the president and his family went too far. A man who was holding a sign reading “Death to Obama” Wednesday outside a town hall meeting on health care reform in Hagerstown, Md., has been turned over to the Secret Service. Washington County Sheriff’s Capt. Peter Lazich said the sign also read, “Death to Michelle and her two stupid kids.”

Well you know, spreading fear does get results. After all obama is crashing like we have all been praying for.

Gosh, I want all of us to shout Herseth Sandlin (along with that guy obama) down when and if she ever holds a public meeting. But what if it gets out of hand and something happens to her or obama? You don’t suppose people would blame us or turn on us for spreading such fear? I mean, she supports a policy that will kill Grandma and Sarah Palin’s baby! What are we supposed to do?

…And, it’s sad to see everyone (including SHS) assuming that South Dakotans would act like idiots if given the chance to ask questions to our delegates. Pretty cynical.

I wonder if SHS reads watches KELO:

http://keloland.com/NewsDetail6162.cfm?Id=88678

But Republican, it’s not fair to say all South Dakotans would act like idiots; only the Republican South Dakotans would act like idiots. After all, the GOP is orchestrating the chaos at the town hall meetings in other states.

YPG. These guys sort of remind me of the crowd trying to beat down Lot’s door in Sodom to get at the angels. They do indeed sometimes seem stricken with blindness, you know?

Anonymous,

If Bob Gray and Co. in Pierre orchestrate “chaos” at DakotaFest or other places, I will leave the party. Safe to say I’m not leaving the party.

Now if sidestepping questions is chaotic for SHS, that’s another story…

Thune did a public union card check event in RC a couple months back. Plenty of union boys were there. Didn’t seem to scare him off.

Republican. The KELO piece fails to mention SHS was part of many, if not all of those Johnson forums/round tables.

I don’t now why you think there is no element in South Dakota that would be disruptive. All states have a few and if organized, they can look like many. I emphasize it’s a few and most people are very decent and respectful.

That said, there are groups organizing these people to show up at public forums. They may be out to get Democrats and health care now, but they are hardly any friendlier to Republicans–remember John Cornyn facing teabaggers or whatever awhile back.

Yo mo. Are you saying union members are in the same category as the disruptive types we’ve been seeing at health care town halls?

Moses seemed to imply appearing before 300-400 union members would be imposing.

And I’m sure it would be difficult to find any examples of union members resorting to violence of any kind, ever. Oh, but wait. Hmmmmm. There is that SEIU member who beat the black conservative at a town hall rally in St. Louis. That is the only example of physical violence I can think of at any town halls held this summer.

So, you’re right, they probably aren’t in the same category as the senior citizens raising their voices or carrying signs at town halls.

Wonder why thune didnt come out and talk to union people when he was meeting with chamber of commerce people .Thune do as i say not as i do.

you’re sounding awfully unAmerican and angry. I may have to report you to the Bamster and his thugs.

Hope, man! Hope! And Change! Live it.

Myleftfoot,

One question: if SHS was a part of those forums, do you think all media would knowingly disclude her from the story? Answer: NO. She was not there, or she’d be included in the write-up. Prove me wrong

*exclude

A chamber event for chamber members? Who cares? Stephie can prattle on until she’s blue in the tiara. Doesn’t mean doodlely squat. Thune’s as bad if not worse. “when session resumes, we are going to consider options that best represent the needs and interests of all people in South …” blah blah blah. Let me know when somebody actually does something other than bitch about granny being put down.

Am I welcome every time Johnny T “i’m not an obstructionsist or DC resident” takes a whiz with a fistful of thousand dollar checks? Insurance and administrators now runs the show and according to them, only they should decide when to pinch the proverbial nurses ass.

what do our gov cand’s say about the solution other than expediant BS? It’s funny and sad, that SD could’ve had one of the best ortho’s in the midwest for gov (fiscally cons. as well), but PP sends us to the Chiro instead.

I’m done for now. Gonna head to sibby’s and play rockem-sockem-robots. he dresses his like Jesus and mine like a Rabbi. I usually just let him win, to help make up for the whole killing God thing

Instead of a rational discussion of the issues, Congressmen have been hanged in effigy, protesters have held signs calling for Obama’s death, swastikas have been spray painted on Congressional offices, and some nutjob dropped his loaded pistol while at a supermarket Q&A with his Representative.

I’m sorry, but with the angry geriatric lemmings who are being stirred up by Glenn Beck & everyone else over at Fox News, I’d honestly be worried about my safety.

And really, considering that the bill does such radical things as making sure insurance companies don’t kick you off their coverage the second you get ill, that’s a sad statement.

But PP, you wanna tell me when John Thune is holding an open forum during recess? You rail against Stephanie Herseth Sandlin for keeping a secret schedule, or for only talking at paid functions, but your boy Thune is doing THE EXACT SAME THING.

Must not have read the paper this am, huh?

“Sen. John Thune’s office confirmed that the Republican is holding a public meeting on health care.

“The schedule is still being organized, but given the great public interest, there are plans in the works for a forum or town hall in coming weeks,” Thune spokeswoman Andi Fouberg said.”

Republicant 6:18 pm: Dakotafest is a farm show/fesitval, not a health care question/screaming free-for-all. If she is asked health care questions and she side steps them, then good for her.

“Screaming free-for-all”. Really?

And please try to explain to me how healthcare has nothing to do with farming. That would be entertaining to read…
