2010 election
ABC News: “Dems are dropping like flies”
Expanding on PP’s earlier post, a lot of news is breaking tonight regarding the 2010 elections. A number of Democrats have announced that they will not seek re-election or will seek other office. Just announcing today:
Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND): Announced that he will retire after serving 18 years in the Senate
Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT): Announced that he will [...]
The expanding Governor’s race
A belated Merry Christmas to all the SDWC readers, I hope it was a pleasant one for everyone, even with the blizzard!
As we move past Christmas and towards the first of the year, my attention turns towards the impending Governor’s race. Kevin Woster has in interesting article out on Mt. Blogmore, and that got me [...]
Knuppe raises $20k in campaign cash
Saw this on the Rapid City Journal’s website:
Buffalo Gap rancher Ken Knuppe, one of four Republican candidates for governor, said this week that he has raised $20,000 in campaign contributions.
It’s a relatively small amount to the leading candidates, Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard and state Sen. Dave Knudson, who have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. [...]
KELO profiles Gov. race
KELO did an “Eye on Keloland” bit Thursday night about the Governor’s race and their thoughts on trying to cut/contain the state budget. They profiled each candidate and gave them the opportunity to say why they would be best, a fairly typical news piece. So, I thought I’d comment and give my opinion on how [...]
Road Tax increase? Some say no, some say… maybe
Playing catchup today after a busy week… just got back from the Augie homecoming football game, where they rolled over the Upper Iowa Peacocks 41-21.
It seems the big news on the gubernatorial front this week is the candidates reacting to the proposed road tax increase that may or may not go to the Legislature once [...]
Knudson in Rapid City
Word on Dave Knudson’s Facebook page today was that he was out in Rapid City at the Republican Ambassadors luncheon… not sure of the details, but if anyone was at the event and heard him speak, please comment and give a few details!
Daugaard makes it official
Daugaard declared himself an official candidate today for Governor; he held a press conference at the family farm, with Gov. Rounds, Speaker of the House Tim Rave, Rep. Shantel Krebs, and Rep. Roger Hunt all present.
The Argus, the RC Journal, or KELO don’t have much yet, but read the preliminary stories here or here
Knudson promises secret ballot legislation in ‘10
Fresh off the wire this noon hour, Dave Knudson has come out saying that he will be introducing legislation which would send to the voters a possible constitutional amendment to protect South Dakotans right to a secret ballot while unionizing when the Legislature comes back in to session in January.
Knudson, during the news conference, states that the notion [...]
Knudson cites “Rounds/Daugaard administration”
I was browsing each respective candidates campaign Facebook pages this morning and came across an article that Dave Knudson had to linked to from the Mitchell Daily Republic. In the article, Knudson joined the fray in criticizing the Governor’s plan to close 17 drivers license exam stations throughout the state, and essentially transfer those duties from [...]
The hunt for a congressional candidate.
We’re just shy of 9 months out from the 2010 primary election. And while there’s a virtual plethora of gubernatorial hopefuls who are actively out on the campaign trail… It’s a little quieter on the GOP side in terms of making a firm commitment that they’re in the hunt for Congress against Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.

Heidepreim responds to the GOP Criticism… First by not responding. Then, by complaining in front of the country club.
In the Heidepreim “Phoniest man in SD” kerfluffle that arose yesterday, two of the local TV stations got Heidepreim’s reactions on the press release issued by Lucas Lentsch. First, from KELO:
“This is somebody who used to be Republican, or at least we thought he was, and then he switched and became a Democrat and you [...]
Regental Interviews. Three have done so to date. As to the status of the other one…..
3 of them have been interviewed by the SD Board of Regents. Three of them, as in South Dakota’s 2010 GOP Gubernatorial field.
Dennis Daugaard and Dave Knudson did it. Ken Knuppe did it too. And that leaves Scott Munsterman.
As the sole remaining candidate to be interviewed by the Board of Regents, his interview [...]
The run down of the top offices for the parties. One is conspicuously empty.
Just for the sake of illustration – here’s what we have today for candidates running for, or looking at the major 3 offices up for election in 2010:
2010
Election
Republicans
Democrats
US Senate
None.
Nada.
Zip.
Zilch.
Congress
Governor
Will our friends on the other side of the aisle leave that office untouched? Not looking too good for them at the moment…
Ken Knuppe on KSFY….. But apparently his wife doesn’t meet the Sibby Standards
2010 Gubernatorial candidate Ken Knuppe appeared on KSFY news last night to talk about the race…
(Which you can read here.) Ken noted something he and I have in common, that our spouses are both involved in public education.
Uh oh. That fact didn’t go unnoticed by the SD Blogosphere’s puffy shirt wearing, lunatic hillbilly as [...]
Picking up the baton… Thoughts on “One legislator wants the petition measure to fail”
Well, since PP decided to take a pass on commenting about Dave Knudson and his wanting the referred law to fail, and if PP doesn’t mind, I’ll go ahead and pick up on this and talk about my thoughts on the issue.
Frankly, as a future voter in this primary, I’m a little disappointed that Knudson [...]
Thoughts on the race… so far
Well, as PP mentioned in his earlier post today, it sounds like he would be rather busy, so I thought I’d make a quick post to fill in. As a young South Dakotan, I thought I’d offer some thoughts on how the race is turning out so far, especially since the serious campaigning for the [...]
So it begins
Hello everyone. PP has graciously welcomed me to the site, and I’m happy to be here. As per PP’s request a few weeks ago, I will be trying to provide the thoughtful and insightful commentary on the other three GOP gubernatorial candidates that PP said he would like now that he is working for the Munsterman campaign.
As for [...]
Knudson Fundraiser sends ripples in the GOP contest – Gov’s Race 2010 still very much in play.
I’ve contended since the onset that the 2010 Governor’s race is not going to solidify for a great deal of time. While the Lt. Governor as the current front runner has been open about his candidacy for a couple of years now, was long ago endorsed by the Governor, and has raised a pile of [...]
Scoop – The First Lady of the Secretary of State’s office
Here’s one that hadn’t entered into my stream of consciousness yet.
Word is that former First Lady Pat Miller, married to former Governor Walter Dale Miller (who held office for a short time after Governor Mickelson’s tragic death) is looking at entering the race for Secretary of State in 2010.
In fact, I heard that while not [...]
Is Scott Munsterman becoming the Conservative Alternative for Governor in 2010? Well, he is the only man with a plan.
The Lincoln Day Dinner circuit is starting to slow down for the season and I’m hearing assessments of this years’ performances by candidates seeking the Governor’s office in 2010.
Throughout the notes, reports and observations I’m getting there are a few clear trends – one of them possibly a bit unexpected but nonetheless welcome in a [...]
