IM 10 - Neither Clean, nor Open

Prescient, wasn’t I?

Mercer in Rapid City Weekly News on IM10. And, there ought to be a law.

AH! We’re getting a rare treat this week, with the Rapid City Weekly News putting one of Bob Mercer’s articles on-line. And this week, Bob points out where we really need to be looking at for the source of Initiated Measure 10’s funding:
The ballot committee working to pass IM 10, South Dakotans for Open and [...]

Rapid City Journal assigns a political story to someone who doesn’t know what on earth they’re writing about.

From tonight’s Rapid City Journal:
A group campaigning against Initiative Measure 10 has raised almost twice as much money as proponents of the measure, but has only one-quarter of the number of donors.
and..
The group received funds from 80 donors, compared with 22 donors for the No in 10 campaign. All but one of the Yes on 10 [...]

Where do I sign up? “Conservatives against IM10″ forms

I can’t wait to see how the propaganda wing of the SDCAC tries to spin this one. From my e-mail box:
CONSERVATIVES Against Initiative 10
For immediate release
October 20, 2008
“Conservatives Against Initiative 10” Forms
Pierre – Conservative leaders from across the state formed a group today to oppose Initiative 10, the so-called “Open and Clean Government” measure.
“We agree [...]

Another out-of-stater for IM10. What are the odds?

From the Dunderpets at IM10, they’ve announced that they’re bringing Grover to town next week to campaign for IM10:

Activist among top 25 most influential Republicans in the nation, magazine says
Grover Norquist to [...]

Yes on 10 violates their own “no tax dollars used on campaign pledge.” *UPDATED*

Remember this pledge from Dene Epenscheid at the”Yes on 10 crew”:
“The YES on 10 campaign also promises the taxpayers of our state that we will not spend one penny of their tax dollars on our campaign,” she said.
Wait a minute…. What’s this I spied on the Highway Median in Brookings on Hobo Day?

It would [...]

More IM 10 stuff - The Endorsement edition

From my mailbag, the only endorsements of recent or current South Dakota political figures that are willing to stand up and support initiated measure 10. First, unsuccessful US Senate Candidate Sam Kephart asks for money and support for IM 10:

Next, the only state legislator who was foolish enough to climb on board the SDCAC ship [...]

IM10 Great for churches… (but just ignore that domestic partnership thing)

The latest salvo from the IM10 people. (as opposed to the ones being lobbed at them)

Now, Page 2…

And finally, page 3

I have to say that I don’t think I’d even seen the Pro-life/Pro-choice groups use language as direct as this in attempting to influence the ministries around the state.
So how do you get a church [...]

Meet Mike and Susan. Initiated Measure 10 would limit their ability to donate to the candidate of their choice. Thanks to a loved one.

(Update - I had to rewrite this, as I had a critical error on one person’s employment status. I’ve fixed that, and I apologize for the error. And I would even extend thanks, because it opened up another aspect of IM10 that’s important to mention.)

The Goal of IM10 - burn down political parties to build up the SDCAC

I was writing about some topic or another the other day when it dawned upon me.
If you think about it, what would the motivation be for people to promote and support initiated measure 10? It shuts people out of the process. It limits their free speech as expressed in a donation to the candidate of [...]

A new election blog - initiatedmeasure10.com

Keep your eyes peeled - I’m starting up a new blog for the election cycle. As I did with another nutty measure last election in the form of Amendment E, initiatedmeasure10.com will serve as a central repository for all my previous posts on the topic, as well as for new exclusive content from myself and [...]

Why should I be surprised? Sibby already trying to hide under the porch.

I’m removing the bulk of this post, because it’s a moot point. Sibby, who has a history of shrinking from debates once challenged to do something in the real world (as opposed to the Internet) is running away from a real debate once again on IM10, as he did when challenged on veteran issues from [...]

SDCAC founder howling about getting caught with his pants down. The law of unintended consequences.

SDCAC’s resident scholar of alchemy, Steve Sibson is howling (figuratively) this morning about getting caught with his pants around his ankles. What am I referring to? The fact that in another state, one legal scholar pointed out that a measure identical to our Initiated Measure 10 which is being offered in Colorado, also using [...]

IM10 might be opening the door to gay marriage in SD. Seriously.

By the incredible amount of money that the SDCAC is pumping into initiated measure 10, you could say that they’re the driving force behind it.
Naturally, you wouldn’t expect the SDCAC, comprised on Lora Hubbel, Lee Breard and Steve Sibson, to be socially moderate just by virtue of the name of the organization. However, from the [...]

Now there’s one hell of a spokesman.

From the 2008 Ballot Explanations:
Pro – Initiated Measure 10
VOTE YES on 10 to bring common sense public disclosure and ethics reform to our state and local governments, the same standards we already require by law of our federal officials in Washington.
VOTE YES on 10 to stop politicians from handing out “pay to play” government contracts [...]

More on CJ IM10 Article: The Stockdale school of spokesmanship

From the Cap Journal Article on IM10:
Dena Espenscheid, the spokeswoman for South Dakotans for Open & Clean Government, declined to comment, saying the group would not respond to press inquiries until closer to the election.
Aren’t spokespeople actually supposed to be able to talk …..about things?  Or has the job  description now been modified to include [...]

IM10 smashed in the Capitol Journal today (and I helped!)

Great article on Initiated Measure 10 in the Capitol Journal today, where many of the problems with this utter disaster of a measure were highlighted for all to see. And, I even got a swat at it in there (although they didn’t hit on the more than questionable finances of the organization):
…a legion of [...]

SDCAC/Open and Clean in the field doing polling on IM 10?

While I was out moving a deep freeze for the next weekend’s auctionin Bruce, my wife called me with news that she’d just been surveyed with a push-poll regarding initiated measure 1. She didn’t know the source, but I think it’s safe to assume that it was likely the open and clean people, or the [...]

Poll getting attention. And other comments getting attention

I just caught wind that a reporter from the Argus Leader was calling around to at least a person or two as featured on my little unscientific poll.  So watch for at least a blurb on the 2010 Races.
And since I’ve started questioning IM10, how it’s going to cut out thousands of South Dakotans from [...]

How much is the SDCAC putting into IM10? Over $400,000 as of July 7th.

I was looking at the financial reports this AM, and came across a new one for the Open and Clean Government act.
I had to look at this three or four times, because it appeared that the money that the SDCAC was putting into this measure was far, far more than anyone had initially anticipated. I [...]
