What was the SDHSAA thinking putting a fox back in the hen house?
There are plenty of times I might disagree with Cory Allen Heidelberger over at the Madville Times. Cory is a bit more liberal than I am, and there’s that whole opposing political party thing.
But lately he’s been dead on the mark with his comments talking about the South Dakota High School Activities Association’s absolutely crazy [...]
RC Weekly news has an update on the late filers in the RC Mayoral Race
The Rapid City Weekly news has an update on the pokey filers in the Rapid City Mayoral Race who were facing fines of up to $200 a day. Of course, the city attorney already warned them that late filers will get a stern warning followed by other stern warnings.
(Sounds like Democrat defense policies, doesn’t it?)
Anyway, [...]
Cabela’s Referendum heats up in RC
The Cabela’s land war out west is heating up in preparation for a special election in Rapid City (didn’t we just have an election out there?) and a committee has been formed to promote the message that Cabela’s doesn’t need a subsidy, as reported by RCJ Reporter Scott Aust:
People opposed to [...]

vlcsnap-13130828.png
Senator Thune’s office just sent out their August E-Newsletter, and as part of it, they’ve included the video message that Thune delivered for Senator Johnson.
Click on the picture or *click here* to watch the message that attendees to Senator Johnson’s welcome home event saw.
Check out Folkerts’ Take on the Johnson Media Snub
Go check out the full (and funny) cartoon at Jason Folkerts website.
Good for you!
The Associated Press is reporting this morning that Julie Johnson, long involved in government in Pierre, is leaving state government for greener pastures:
Julie Johnson, a former state government official and business leader, will work to promote Aberdeen’s development in her new job as executive director of Absolutely! Aberdeen.

I had the pleasure to [...]
Time for a house party with Fred
From my inbox tonight:
Dear Friends,
On September 6, 2007, Fred Thompson will be announcing his intention to run for President of the United States with a webcast available to millions at www.imwithfred.com. The launch of the video will be followed by a five-day campaign tour through Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. On the evening of [...]
Rounds: Sometimes, those without money are the best
Governor Rounds talks a little about what he thinks makes a good candidate in reference to Huckabee’s race at todayskccr.com:
Huckabee’s presidential campaign is like Rounds’s first campaign for Governor in 2002, when the Pierre businessman was an underdog with little money, but won a three-person Republican primary and then the general election.
Rounds says Huckabee’s [...]
Dan Sutton to seek elected office again?
Denise Ross has a tidbit over at the Hoghouse blog from the Welcome Home Tim Johnson event where she posed a question to State Senator Dan Sutton:
State Sen. Dan Sutton, D-Flandreau, seen here talking to another event attendee. Sutton, known for the censure he received from the Senate this year after sharing his hotel bed [...]
*sniff* We’d better get around to acknowledge the local press as well.
Senator Tim Johnson is granting his first local television interview to KELOLAND News for the first time since his brain hemorrhage last December.
(Read it all here) Glad to see that they’re finally getting around to recognizing the little people.
Just take a breath. I haven’t gone anywhere.
One of the commenters had a few choice words for me under the prior post since *gasp* I hadn’t written anything in the past 23 hours:
Wow, so rather than have to offer positive coverage of the Johnson event, you just shut the blog down for a few days. I guess if you can’t say anything [...]
South Dakota GOP running a presidential straw poll at the fair
Just got this in my in-box:
Don’t miss your chance to vote in our first-ever Presidential Straw Poll!
The South Dakota Republican Party will hold its first-ever Republican Presidential Straw Poll at the South Dakota State Fair August 30 through September 3, 2007.
Voting will be held throughout the fair at the South Dakota Republican Building and [...]
The 2008 Ballot issue dance card.
A blogging colleague had sent me a note on one my favorite people of interest, California’s own Bonnie Russell. If you’re not familiar with her, Bonnie was involved in 2006’s goofy Amendment E, and would often refer to the SD blogosphere using a creative term such as “blieggers.”
Get it? It’s the combination of the [...]
Someone got caught with his tongue in the cookie jar, and didn’t like it.
I see David Newquist, the James Lipton of the SD Blogosphere, is preening once again about how he’s so much better than thou tonight, when I pointed out the fact that he’s endorsing dishonesty:
In the post below, my concluding paragraph is:
Ultimately, if journalism is to survive as the Fourth Estate, new rules about the privacy [...]
Thoughts on the Johnson Event.
As the Johnson media team tries to take back earlier assertions that Tim is running, once again starting a “will he or won’t he” roller coaster, similar to that of when “he would or would not” return to office, I have a few thoughts after watching all of this on TV.
Having a daughter who suffers [...]
Kevin Woster has some a few more choice words for the Johnson Press team
As David Newquist gives his endorsement to the Johnson team lying to the media (and by extension, the electorate), Kevin Woster at the Rapid City Journal has a few more words for a Johnson Media staff that has a problem telling the truth:
It’s a well-deserved celebration. Like other South Dakotans, I’m happy the senator is [...]
Glad that precedent has been set.
Over at the Northern Valley Beacon, Dr. Newquist announces to the world the new Democratic standards for communicating with your constituents:
Ultimately, if journalism is to survive as the Fourth Estate, new rules about the privacy of public figures will have to be established. Until then, savvy media consultants may have to lie a bit.
Yup. According [...]
Are you going? Those other places besides the fair.
In the next few days there’s going to be a massive festival where prospective politicians are going to have the opportunity to meet thousands of potential voters, campaign workers, and generally people who have a strong interest in what the politicians have to say.
And I’m not talking about that event in Huron.
The state fair is [...]
At the dawn of the Johnson return, Rapid City Journal gives his press people an editorial spanking
The Rapid City Journal does publicly what many in the media have already done in chastising the Johnson media team for their secrecy, and putting beltway reporters first:
We can certainly understand why Sen. Johnson decided to share that story with Woodruff, himself a medical miracle of survival following a brain injury suffered while covering the [...]
Video of the congressional hopefuls from the Clark County Lincoln Day Dinner
Here’s a video troika of State Representative Joel Dykstra who is running for Senate, Sioux Falls City Councilman Pat Costello, who is considering a run for Congress, and Larry Russell who is also considering a run for Congress on the GOP ticket.
Enjoy!
