Waayyy to much time left with my thoughts on the trip home.

For some reason this notion struck me as funny as I idled the hours away on the trip home.

We need those Stinkin’ Badges Too! (Battle of the badges 2)

I was at the REALTOR’s Chili Oyster Feed tonight, and got this little bit of intelligence. Apparently, Heidepreim’s stupidity is contagious.
If you recall yesterday, we had the tale of the battle of the badges, where Scott Heidepreim must have decided he enjoyed the look of his prior legislative badge from several years ago, and decided [...]

Line of the day

Overheard at the REALTORS Oyster/Chili feed:
“Can we vote the Argus Leader off the island?”

Tell me someone has that on film

From Today’s Rapid City Journal:

Anyone have “the Herseth Ride” on video? Pretty Please…..?

Turbak Berry tries to raise the limits on what debtors get to keep.

I’m watching as Senator Turbak Berry is trying to goose up the limits of what debtors get to keep if they go under financially.

She’s advocating for higher limits on the homestead, on personal property, etcetera.
Knudson lightly advocated against it. Hauge is strongly advacating against it, citing the possibility of “pre-petition planning” for those going to [...]

GOP Director Lays down roots in Pierre.

Just heard this one from friends around my old stomping grounds. Apparently GOP Executive Director Max Wetz and his significant other have purchased a home in Ft. Pierre.
Does this lay to rest rumors that had been floating out there about a possible change in leadership at the party? Somewhat.
Max has been at the GOP about [...]

Report: THE TAN BAN goes DOWN!

I talked to one of the House HHS Committee members after committee this morning (I was busy getting a haircut). I’m pleased to report that Representative (Nanny) Van Etten’s TAN BAN met the same fate that it’s predecessor in 2007 met.
Reportedly, it was deferred to the 36th legislative day. Where all ridiculous crap like this [...]

Mountain Lions on parade

Remember the spate of mountain lion photos in someone’s backyard that actually came from another state? Here’s a few from right here in good old South Dakota

Yes, that’s three in a backyard getting a drink during the Piedmont fire.

Those two were taken on a 150 pound Mt. Lion hit on a road about 10 miles [...]

More District 8 news - Gerry’s going I, Sutton to run for House?

Well, I got kicked off the House floor at 11am this morning. I have GOT to go talk to LRC again about press credentials. In the meantime, I have yet even more gossip on my neighbor district to the South, District 8.
I’m writing this as I’m sitting high in the Senate Chamber’s Gallery, and that’s [...]

Do you have to have a backwards seat to do that?

(Click on the article if you have trouble reading it)

Bob Mercer has an article today in several of the state’s newspapers on State Senator Frank Kloucek “hurriedly backpedaling” on his bill to create a horse slaughter plant. This one is from the Pierre Capitol Journal. It’s not online, so you’ll have to buy the dead [...]

New Book: American Indian Mafia

There’s a book that’s hot off the press that I actually can’t wait to get my hands on. My Dad, a retired FBI agent, had a copy sent to him by the author whom he knows.
And wouldn’t you know it, he won’t let me take it back to Brookings with me, so I’ll have to [...]

The Battle of the Badges

Here’s a good one.
Senator Scott Heidepreim is tired of discrimination. DAMN tired of the mistreatment of a certain class of citizens. What second class citizenry did they try to make things right for? Was it for the African Americans, who had jim crow laws and a century-long struggle for equal rights? No. Was it for [...]

Male Models in the State Senate.

“Senator Albers; Have you ever considered modeling? Your eyes make love to the camera.”
“Hey, I’m just talking on a bill! Why are you taking my picture?”

GORDO!

Will he make the jump to the Senate next year or won’t he?

You’d think there was an abortion bill being heard today, huh?

I did a momentary doubletake as I was sitting in the gallery. Planned Parenthood Lobbyist Kate Looby who laid low during the 2006 General Election abortion fight is haunting the halls of Pierre today.
I’m assuming she’s in the gallery today for HB 1193, the abortion sonogram bill which surprisingly has gotten little attention in comparison [...]

I love it!

Nothing does my heart good like seeing how many legislators are checking out my website while I’m hanging out in the Gallery.

This one is for the Madville Times

Here’s a shot of Representative Russ Olson for Cory over at the Madville Times. (Pay attention - this could be his last picture here before he’s named Senator this November).

Wireless access and the sore rump. Props to the Lobbyists!

This kind of bites..

I naievely thought that our legialture would have some public wireless access available for the plethora of wireless devices that permeate our society. You know, a simple “fire up the laptop, I’m on line with a heavily limited, but useable wireless network” thing.
Yeah, right.
To their credit, they are doing a public thing, [...]
