Janklow Speaks on Dan Scott Trial
Powers Wins!!
Woo Woo!! Powers Wins!!
Well, A Powers won. But not me.
My oldest daughter Paige did something totally out of character for her. At 15 pushing 16, she has the sullen teen thing down to a science, and at a moment’s notice can leave my wife and I checking for additional gray hairs after we’ve dealt with [...]
It’s Go time for Dan Scott
From the Defendants’ Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings
V. CONCLUSION
After reviewing the record, the parties’ arguments, and the relevant legal authority, the Court holds that the Defendants’ Motion for Judgment on the Pleadings is denied. It cannot be said, as a matter oflaw, that no reasonable reader could have interpreted Beck’s July 15, 2007 Argus [...]

Here’s a copy of the affidavit filed in support of the arrest warrant for Chad Schuldt (a.k.a. The Clean Cut Kid, a.k.a., CCK).

More to come on this tale….
I sense a couple of the Argus Blogs falling off the face of the earth.
I’ve been watching for updates on a couple of the Argus Blogs - one of which I specifically have indexed at the SDWC Blogosphere update. The last update from Dave Kranz’s Prairie Politics Blog was on 4/10 - fully 20 days ago.
I’ve really noticed this one, as it was often a good preview of what [...]
Ethanol Blender Pump Issue keeps pumping out rhetoric
The Argus Leader jumped into the fray this morning with their editorial taking aim at the Governor and the memo that went out to operators of blender pumps.
Yes, that was predictable. But aside from just disagreeing with the decision, the tone of the comments seems to be taking a darker, more personal turn :
Rounds recently [...]
Suspending the rules this summer
Both John McCain and now the president don’t think the idea we all share is such a bad one:
While fuel prices continued to rise Tuesday, President Bush chided Congress for blocking his proposals to deal with the problem. He said he is open to suspending gas taxes this summer but prefers long-term fixes, such as [...]
More on the Ethanol Blender Fuel Tax
This issue continues to burn up the blogosphere - here’s a copy of what the American Coalition of Ethanol sent out to their members on the topic of the recent memo:
Dear South Dakota ACE Members:
Last week, Governor Rounds instructed the SD Department of Revenue & Regulation to issue a memo to all SD fuel [...]
Obama wishes his pastor would just shut up.
From the associated press, it sounds as if Obama is wishing God would revoke his spiritual advisor’s authority about now:
Barack Obama angrily denounced his former pastor for “divisive and destructive” remarks on race, seeking to divorce himself from the incendiary speaker and a fury that threatens to engulf his front-running Democratic presidential campaign.
and…
On Monday, [...]
Dem’s talking points on the Ethanol Blended pump issue
Just in case you were wondering, here’s the talking points the dems are shipping to their operatives and candidates around the state on the Ethanol Blended Pump Issue:
CAMPAIGN 2008 UPDATE - From South Dakota Democratic Party
Rounds violates separation of power with double tax
At the bottom of this email is the press release issued Monday by [...]
More on Hildygate. No Hillary people involved in this?
The Argus posts more of the story on-line this AM, and it looks like the Obama train is coming to SD just in time, since two of the campaign’s people are witnesses:
Schuldt is accused of embezzling $69,298, but the total loss to Hildebrand Tewes Consulting is calculated at $198,146, including IRS penalties, professional fees and [...]
The Blended Ethanol Memo. Why, oh why?
Remember when a few years ago that the Department of Revenue decided that Churches needed to start kicking in taxes for hymnals? If you don’t recall, it was somewhat of a P.R. blunder when they sent out nastygrams to churches telling them they were being allowed a grace period before the DOR was [...]
As the Obama Campaign comes to SD, what else is coming back? HILDYGATE!
From the Argus Leader:
A Sioux Falls man fired last summer from his job at Hildebrand Tewes Consulting Inc. now faces felony grand theft charges in Minnehaha Circuit Court.
Chad Schuldt, 37, stole nearly $200,000 from his former employer by overpaying himself, misusing a company credit card and causing federal tax penalties, according to a Sioux Falls [...]
Press Conference on Ethanol Today?
One of my sources tell me that Senate Minority Leader Heidepriem will hold a news conference today to criticize Governor Rounds for how taxes are collected on gas and ethanol. Word is it’s on the blended pump issue, which he could have addressed during session.
So what is bringing it to the forefront for him now?
UPDATE [...]
Will they campaign in a small town, or will they have to find a bitter one?
Word on the street is that Obama is coming to South Dakota, and Congresswoman Herseth wants to go out and make a campaign stop with him:
Although she’d prefer that it be decided in June, Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin says she’ll do her part if the Democratic presidential nomination ends up in an August convention [...]

Minnehaha County Republican Dinner Pics coming
Good Morning Readers! I wasn’t able to make it myself because of a birthday party for my niece (daughter of my only sibling in the state), but the Minnehaha County Republican Party held their Lincoln Day Dinner last night, and I have photos. Courtesy of Tammy Weis, you’ll get a sampling of the events of [...]
Aging gracefully, or just aging?
State Senator Ryan Maher sent me this one -
Apparently, at an upcoming auction in Isabel, he and Bob Newland both have their campaign memorabilia as featured items in the sale. Ryan’s question - “Does this make me an antique or a collectible?”
Well, paired with Newland, I’d guess that would make you the collectible.
(I kid, [...]
Today’s campaign event canceled
We will reschedule, but due to weather we’re going to cancel today’s big door to door push for the Powers for Senate campaign. At least until there’s a foot less of snow, and people have a chance to shovel.
Thanks for your consideration and offer of help.
