And then there was 4? Krebs might be preparing to pull the trigger.

Just had a hot tip e-mailed to me.
Word flowing around is that Shantel Krebs has possibly signed on Scott Wilks to run a US House race.  Wilks is the same person who has ran campaigns with Duane Sand North Dakota.  I don’t know that this is more than just a rumor, but it comes from [...]

A little irony for your afternoon.

Remember when I wrote on Glen “Closed Door” Brenner making excuses why he was refusing to send on an open meetings complaint to the Open Meetings Commission:
Pennington County State’s Attorney Glenn Brenner has decided not to send a Rapid City Journal complaint against the Rapid City Area School District on to the state Open Meetings [...]

Quote of the day – from Herseth’s appearance at the SF Chamber Luncheon.

“We ask there be no recordings of today’s event.”
– Announcement made before Herseth Sandlin’s appearance at the Sioux Falls Chamber Luncheon today, according to an attendee..

NOOOOOOO!!!!! Disney taking over Marvel Comics.

Sorry to depart from politics for a moment, but this seems like too much of a travesty to ignore:
The Walt Disney Co. said Monday it is buying Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4 billion in cash and stock, bringing such characters as Iron Man and Spider-Man into the family of Mickey Mouse and WALL-E.
Under the deal, [...]

The hunt for a congressional candidate.

We’re just shy of 9 months out from the 2010 primary election. And while there’s a virtual plethora of gubernatorial hopefuls who are actively out on the campaign trail…  It’s a little quieter on the GOP side in terms of making a firm commitment that they’re in the hunt for Congress against Stephanie Herseth Sandlin.

Argus Leader: Tribes looking for Obama and the Dems to give them the Black Hills

From the Argus Leader this morning, it appears that the Tribes are looking for Obama and the Dems to give them the Black Hills:
A campaign conversation with the man who would become president of the United States has some Sioux leaders thinking they might finally get part of their sacred Black Hills back. And they’re [...]

While Herseth and Johnson hide, Thune is the only one willing to give the microphone to the people.

While Senator Tim Johnson avoids most public contact during the August recess, and Congresswoman Hersetn Sandlin only accepts those engagements that are scripted to the point of being severe, South Dakota’s United States Senator John Thune seems to be the only one willing to pass off the microphone to others…
Sen. John Thune got the West [...]

A week of predation highlights the needs for using a scalpel, and not a shotgun.

This has been a weird week for those accused of being child predators.
This topic started off in Pierre with a really sketchy report, that didn’t tell the public anything at all…
Local mother Danyel Doolittle heard about the incident like many people around Pierre — a chain e-mail forwarded around the community claiming a man exposed [...]

The race is on – Johnson v. Johnson

No, this wasn’t a political race full with too many Johnson’s.
This week, PUC Commissioner Dusty Johnson took on School and Lands Commissioner Jarrod Johnson in a race at Thunder Road of Aberdeen for the Brown County GOP. And they were nice enough to send photos!

How can a public body close a budget meeting? Simple – have Glen Brenner as your State’s Attorney

How can you hide budget decisions from the public? Ask Glen Brenner!
According to Pennington County State’s Attorney Glen Brenner, all you have to do is to shuffle things off to an unelected subcommittee to do the dirty work, and in his eyes, they’re well within their rights to shutter the doors from the pesky public:
Pennington [...]

What happened at the event Herseth Sandlin excluded the public from?

Got a hot tip from someone on the Rapid City “not so public” forum with Herseth Sandlin as to what went on outside at the event:
About 50 Young Professionals attended the private Herseth meeting in Rapid City yesterday. Outside the Holiday Inn, there were about 35 Anti-ObamaCare protestors. Even though the public was [...]

As Scott Heidepreim tries to cast himself as a fiscal conservative, the Aberdeen paper is spanking his client.

As Scott Heidepreim tries to cast himself as a fiscal conservative, the Aberdeen paper is spanking his client – the coalition of schools – for suing taxpayers for nothing more than to prove a point.
Somehow, I don’t think facilitating such folly sounds like something “a fiscal conservative” would do:

I’d have to weigh in with the ones wanting to build the plant

I see my hometown is wrasslin’ over a proposal to build a water treatment plant, according to Tony Mangan at KCCR Radio:
Many city residents would like better quality water, but they don’t want to pay extra to get it.
City commissions heard about a 30-minute presentation on the pros and cons of building a water [...]

Ted Kennedy 1932-2009

Breaking news this early morning out of Hyannis Port, Massachusetts… Ted Kennedy has passed away after a battle with brain cancer.

Badlands Blue scolds Dems for not having a candidate. And acknowledges that the Jarding strategy was a poor one.

I have to hand it to Badlands Blue for now being independent of the SDDP organization.
They’re giving the Democratic party heck for the lack of a candidate. AND they’re acknowledging that last years’ strategy of Steve Jarding’s to disallow Tim Johnson from debating his opponent was not in the interest of the voting public:
So I [...]

Heidepreim goes after state budget. Wasn’t he complaining earlier tht the state WOULDN’T spend more out of reserves?

From the Vermillion Plain Talk comes a lesson in fiscal restraint from Scott Heidepreim. Of course, it’s a lesson which conveniently leaves out a few facts:
“The Rounds/Daugaard administration had six out of seven straight structural deficit budgets,” he said. “That is, we spent more than we took in.”
At one point, the Legislature was dealing with [...]

Watertown paper — Thumbs up to Thune… Not so much to the other Washington Delegates

From the Watertown Public Opinion:

thumbsup

Go read the Watertown Public Opinion online here.
“Thune seems to be the only one of the three willing to take the time to listen to what average South Dakotans have to say about the health care plan in a public setting.”
That pretty much sums up much of the discussion lately. Thune [...]
