  1. Seems like that quote is out-of-context. Can we get a link to the committee hearing that it was pulled from?

    1. I was thinking the same thing. I doubt he really wanted an income tax if he wanted to run for statewide office.

    2. I think it was from the Blue Ribbon Task Force. They were discussing how to increase funding to education. It’s green-lighting; put everything on the table; discuss; and make a decision. Anyone could have said it–just to start the discussion. Billie had enough nerve to put all the ideas on the table for discussion.

      1. I’m sure you can relate, Kathy. It’s similar to when you put the idea Jesus is pro-choice on the table for discussion. Similar to you refusing to share you’re a Democrat while meeting with voters? Similar to telling voters you’re pro-life, however, your record tells a different story?

        Liars tend to stick together.

          1. I guess, if typing ‘Kathy Tyler’ in the search box, at the top of this page, is considered stalking then I’m a stalker.

  2. More sleazy tactics from the Queen of sleaziness. Noem can’t win on her accomplishments or her plan so she resorts to this. South Dakotans have never liked these sort of tactics and it’s gonna backfire for her. Republicans passed the last three tax increases and Billy can’t do it without help from the Republican majority. It will never happen but keep up with the fear tactics. It might work for a large share of your uneducated supporters.

      1. Check out the RNC ads, they’re even better.
‘The Left in 2018: Unhinged’ and ‘The Left is Crazytown’

  3. I’m glad Marty’s supporters are supporting Billie. Has Marty officially endorsed Billie yet? Kristi used sleezeball Washington DC Swamp tactics against Marty also.

    1. I gave a lot of money to Marty. I 100% support Kristi along with most that supported Marty.

      Your just wrong, again.

      1. I only gave Marty my vote, my husband too. We’re 100% supporting Kristi and many other Republicans on the ballot.

We’re not taking their bait either.

  4. Apparently the Democrat state platform includes a state income tax. Uh, doesn’t Billie support the Democrat platform? Somehow I think the Dems expect him to.

  5. Didn’t Sutton support Hillary for President? She is the ultimate swamp creature, so don’t try to pull this garbage that Billie is some sort of a hero who is above reproach. He wanted the Hillary machine to continue to decimate the country, so he couldn’t be trusted to make decisions for the state of South Dakota. He is an inexperienced liberal who wants to take South Dakota the way of California.

  6. Sutton never should have supported Hillary. That is hard to swallow. Democrats don’t even like her.

Noem should go positive. She has a great story to tell also.

    1. When she can not prove her so called accomplishment, she resorts to distorting her candidate’s record. She has done so in all her elections.

    1. Probably true. End of the day he should have known better.

Dusty will have sky high approval after this gubernatorial cycle. He has skated through without getting his hands too dirty.

  7. I love the ad (I have been critical of some of her others) because it is in context. He asked why the Legislature/Governor wasn’t pursuing an income tax to increase revenues to the the State.

  8. I have always felt that Sutton was a tax and spend liberal. It is always easier to spend other people’s money and he has proven himself more than willing to do so. I doubt he has ever seen a tax he didn’t like. So if you are anxious to pay higher taxes by all means vote for him. I certainly don’t plan to.

  9. I almost died laughing when I heard Sutton’s radio advertisement in which Sutton described himself as a “fiscal conservative”. I know that he has been trying to fool people into thinking that he is a conservative, but I did not think that he had the audacity to go so far as to actually use the word to describe himself.

  10. I’m pretty sure statewide income tax is in the SD Dem platform.
    I voted absentee for Kristi!

  11. I go back to another reason to not vote for Sutton, and that is a big one. What business experience does he have that would qualify him to run the state, which is a huge business? Answer is none!

  12. Dont worry Springer.. he would make sure to bring along his liberal buddies to help him out!

  13. We already have an income tax in South Dakota, except that it is known as inherent low wages instead….. And does Kristi really want Marty’s endorsement given her primary ads, really?….. Well, that’s interesting…..

  14. An income tax would take a two thirds vote to pass both the house and the senate. Can anyone name me the 24 votes in the senate who would vote for an income tax.

    1. That doesn’t fit in with the republican fear mongering tactics. Keep repeating the lies until they are accepted as true.

      1. He has aligned himself with a party that supports a income tax in their platform. Its an easy line to draw for most.

  15. What about a franchise tax? Does everyone more or less accept the concept of a franchise tax around here? I am not talking about a france or french tax, or a tax on french fries (Oh, I am sorry, I meant “Freedom Fries.”), rather I am talking about the bank franchise tax we have had for years on bank profits in this state, which we had even though Citibank still moved to South Dakota with it on our books.

    (“It’s a franchise tax and not an income tax…..Yeah, that’s the ticket…..”)

  16. JKC,

I think you need to get Billie to show he is a leader and man of courage by making an income tax a centerpiece of his agenda instead of it being an issue he is waiting to spring it in us after the election.

    1. I honestly do not believe that Billie is for an income tax. I do believe some Democrats are, however. I use to be, but not any more, because we already have an income tax, which is actually called low wages….

      #RaiseWages!

      1. JKC, surely you know that South Dakota is one of the most affordable states in the nation, with low taxation and less regulation and competitive prices allowing everyone’s dollar to go further. I much prefer South Dakota’s path than your magical thinking.

  17. Moderate Democrats are being exposed for who they really are. McCaskill and her staffers have been caught saying exactly the same things Sutton is saying and they do it only for votes. They stay away from speaking about certain issues because that will keep middle-of-the-road voters from supporting them.

    Project Veritas strikes again.

    1. Your absolutely right. This is exactly what the Sutton campaign is doing. He will NOT answer any direct questions and evades like crazy, cause he doesnt want to alienate his Dem supporters yet wants to come across to the Right leaning crowd that hes on their team too. Look at his website. Never says a thing about where he stands. He talks in circles and likes to deflect questions. I think he literally thinks that his cowboy persona and hat is going to do the trick. He has zero experience. And to be frank.. I wouodnt trust him with any type of financial advice. What does he know about financing? Budgets? His dad inherited a ranch, Billie never had to work for anything, neither did Kelsey.

      1. Remember the posts about Sutton refusing to say he was a Democrat? McCaskill does the same thing. It’s almost like they are trying to trick people into thinking they’re Republicans. I can’t wait for the debates, Kristi is going dominate. And, if we’re lucky, the moderator will allow for some back and forth and maybe, just maybe, ask follow=up question to get details about where they stand on the issues.

Better be ready to buck up, Sutton.

      2. This comment might be the funniest one I’ve seen for a while. I understand you are not voting for Billie, but your logic is flawed. Billie is a college diplomad fFJNANCIAL PLANNER in his real job! I think that would trump being a failed business owner and poor financial planning when Kristi inherted her farm.

        1. Anon 8:54.. I think you missed the sacrasm in my point. Just because someone is a “financial” planner doesnt make him a good one. Hence why I said I wouldnt trust him with anything financial cause I dont think he knows his job! I dont give a crap that he works at his inlaws bank. Even more so.. he probably couldnt get a job anywhere else! That was a dumb comeback on your part.

        2. Actually just cause someone is a “college diplomad Financial Planner” still does not make them a good financial planner. Heck his wife is a lawyer yet they couldnt wait to get rid of her at the law firm in Gregory cause she was awful at her job. So guess where her fall back was? Yep! Working at the bank where her dad created a job for her. Literally. Created it so she could have somewhere to tout her horn. The same with Billy.

      3. You are exactly right. Know this family personally. He’s known around here as Bait and Switch Billie.

  18. Once again can someone tell us how Billie can get an income tax passed through the Senate and the House with a two thirds vote. This is such a non issue, because it’s DOA in its first committee hearing. Then he’d have to get it smoked out of committee, then a vote to strike the word NOT, before the debate can even begin. Then if, that should all a-line, it would take a two thirds vote. This is all in the first chamber, which has to be repeated in the following chamber. We should be spending our time talking about the issues that really matter.

    1. The issue isn’t whether or not he could get it passed, its the fact that he has tried to convince the electorate that he is something he is not. He has been desperately trying to paint himself as a conservative, and now the facts are coming out. Now his supporters only recourse is to scream about “negative ads”.
Well I’m sorry Billie, but your house of cards is falling.

      1. No need to apologize, your observation is accurate and Noem’s choice to point it out is reasonable.

  19. Anon 12:19 AM you’re good. How many years did you spend in the Legislature. I’m incredibly impressed actually.

    1. Assuming you’re not 12:19, if all ‘knowledgeable legislators’ know this already, why waste the taxpayers dollars when it could be spent on other things? I think the citizens need to get more involved….

  20. AP Fact Check: Noem Lacks Proof Sutton Supports Income Tax
    (AberdeenNews.com) (StarTribune.com), by James Nord

    1. The StarTribune presents Sutton as a victim…
a state senator and former professional rodeo cowboy who was paralyzed in a 2007 rodeo accident…

The StarTribune presents SD voters as stupid…
reminding voters he’s a Democrat — Sutton has downplayed his party and cast himself as a moderate…

Pranger tells us what to think…
the laughter in the audio shows people in the room knew Sutton’s comment was “intended to bring some bipartisan levity…

The StarTribune states the concept of an income tax wouldn’t be accepted in South Dakota. Lie. Democrats who have knocked on my door, begging for my vote, support an income tax.

Sutton should be embarrassed by this article.
