  1. No. Kristi only won by a few percentage points so let’s not pretend that this was a blowout and people should be shamed or embarrassed for supporting Sutton. There are plenty of repubs that voted for him because of their dislike of Noem.

    1. Dislike? So it was personal? Seems petty.

That said, democracy works when candidates make their best case, citizens engage, we vote, we count the votes, the winners go to work doing the people’s business, and we go back to our lives.

If I lost friends every time they were on different sides in an election, I’d be lonely by now (including divorced and estranged from my children).

At the end of the day, last night was a pretty strong endorsement of what Republicans have done nationally, at the State level, and locally.

With the honor is also great responsibility so let’s just get to work. It is why they endorsed Republicans so broadly.

      1. I don’t know why they voted for Sutton but obviously a lot did.

I agree with you about not losing friends over elections but maybe you could ask Pat why he thinks these people will be ousted by the GOP and why he feels the need to stir the pot over it.

        1. I don’t read Pat suggested they be ousted. He asked a legitimate question.

Its not as though he closed strong.

    2. Great move. Sutton has just become a rock star. Should have been 23 points instead of 3 points. Check the voter Registration. He had to pick up a lot Republican votes to get that close.

  2. Doubtful. Noem was a flawed candidate from the start, and there’s still a lot of resentment from Camp Jackley.

    1. The voters are the relevent ones, and a lot of Republicans voted Sutton or stayed home. Check the numbers.

  3. Let’s keep all the “Former”s that way. I don’t know what enticed them to vote for Sutton with his love of Bernie policies and vote for Hillary, but whatever it was, they clearly weren’t seeing Sutton for what he actually is.

    1. Agreed. Did they not notice Sutton is a Democrat? So, they were also embracing the Democrat’s platform. They may not regret their choice today, but what if they choose to run for a political position in the future, this choice will come up and won’t sit well with some. And, some may have lost respect from people in their “community”.

  4. Or maybe they saw Kristi for what she really is. At any rate, can we stop bringing up Bernie and Hillary mow?

  5. It seems to me half the Republican voters would say Jackley was a flawed candidate if he had won and there would be a lot of resentment from Camp Noem. That said Mr. Hamburger probably does the most to explain Billie Sutton’s “success” which is not so much about him but simply the dynamics that resulted from the Republican primary.

    1. There is always a Republican primary with hard feelings but in the end, Republicans always have defeated the Dem candidate by very large margins. People are tired of status quo. If Billie would have voted populus candidate Trump like 12 million Democrats did that got him elected, he would be our Governor. He needs to stay Independent and represent the platform of the people’s values like he did. The ult left have to realize this is SD, not California. They will never win with pro-choice or Hillary loving candidates. It’s quite obvious. Like former democrat Reagan quoted “I didn’t leave the Democrat party, the Democrat party left me. That’s how he won.

  6. Firstly, last time Pressler ran, he ran as an Independent so not sure why he should even make the list. In that case, tons of people could’ve registered R and said they were R’s supporting Sutton. Meaningless.

Secondly, all people and candidates are flawed in one way or another. The worst is that voters are misinformed or uninformed. Billie seemed appealing to the uniformed on both sides but his inexperience would’ve shown sooner or later so thankfully, we dodged that bullet.

Thirdly, it’s widely known that many die-hard Jackley fans voted for Billie. Speaking of dodging bullets, we definitely did that by Noem defeating Jackley. He proved that by taking so long to endorse Noem. People in politics should know that personal opinions should never trump allowing the opposition to have a possibility at getting in office especially in this hugely red state.

Kristi is truly a public servant and hopefully people on all sides will give her a chance before forming an opinion but I see the poor national Dem behavior bleeding heavily into SD so that is probably unlikely. The constant name calling on Kristi’s posts was atrocious. They should be ashamed.

I do hope that Kristi and Larry study the list hard though! If for nothing else, to see right through them…

  7. On a positive note, people are finally starting to show an interest in politics thanks to President Trump.

    1. Maybe you should read the post again. Not only did these “Republicans” put their names on the list, many starred in an ad for him. Did you notice at the bottom of the press release it says ‘paid for by Sutton for South Dakota’?

  8. I did notice. It’s what makes their effort above board and legitimate. The way PP revisits the topic is malicious because it insinuates a repercussion. Lite. Can you feel the healing ?
