  1. More Government waste to feed the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned us about and many within the military are totally against. It should remain under the Air Force. Dusty not ready for prime time.

  2. I’m wondering if Dusty will issue tin foil hats for all South Dakotans as a preparedness tool. It scares me how much he agrees with Trump on everything.

  3. dusty is correct, but unfortunately didn’t go into the greatest detail in this kind of setting. our most vulnerable asset as a nation, lies in our satellite fleet in orbit on the satellite horizon, precisely placed and doing their millions of jobs for people all over the country. china has already demonstrated a capability to directly affect this fleet of satellites, by actually testing and using anti-satellite weapons since 2007. so we are long overdue with a military effort specifically designed to maintain security in orbit.

      1. space command is an advisory body, this would be a focused large-scale strategic fighting force.

  4. Ever since the USA planted a flag on the moon there should have been a military installation there. Else what was the point of claiming that piece of real estate for our nation? Isn’t that what’s supposed to happen next, the establishment of a strategic outpost? Or maybe a plantation?

    1. MC, Would you propose the “Space Guard” refuse entry based on the color of skin like your statement that a business can refuse service based on the color of their skin?

      1. If they are 3-4’ tall, gray or green, yes. We might want to quarantine them for a while at least.

  5. Yes on Space Force, and Yes to nominating Commander Hubbel to lead the moon bat battalion. Maybe we could coax Space Nelson into serving as the first representative on the moon?

    1. i’m having dick tracy comics flashbacks now with moon maids and magnetic space ships.

  6. A true conservative would not create a new branch of the military, rather they would just use the Air Force to get the job done and save money. Because last I checked, the Air Force deals in altitudes beyond the capacity to breathe air, so they probably could handle space too.

    1. Oh, I almost forgot. Menards has a sale on door moldings right now too. So you might want to take advantage of that one.

  7. The Air Force handled various International and Space Alien threats in the Stargate TV series. They can handle it in real life.

  8. “Veteran astronaut and Apollo moonwalker Buzz Aldrin applauded President Trump’s proposed Space Force on Friday, calling it “one giant leap in the right direction.”

He’s former military, deeply connected to the space industry and knows what he’s talking about. There would be benefit in having a dedicated corps focused on protecting and defending vital assets from space and how our enemies may use space in warfare.

Like atomic weapons, sooner or later, someone is going to claim the terrain in space first. Whoever seizes the high ground in space first will have both strategic and tactical advantage over other nations.

  9. Space Force sounds like it was made up by a five year old child. If you want global and interstellar credibility you name it Starfleet Command. Space Force sounds as dumb as calling early military aviators Flying Guys.

  10. Everybody needs to calm down. The Air Force used to be part of the Army. Look at the history of the Coast Guard and try to track all of the different departments it’s been under in the last 100 years. If the people closest to the matter think it’s time for a new branch, trust them.

    1. The Air Force has a lot more in common with a Space Force, than the Army ever had with the Air Force.

As far as the Coast Guard, well, no matter how many departments it has been under throughout the years, it was still the Coast Guard throughout it all.

  11. Space Force is another branch not wanted or needed by our military that has been handled just fine by the Air Force. Just another example of the government waste by the Trump administration, adding to deficit and everything that is wrong in DC. Dusty would fit right in.

  12. Democrats-those oh-so-forward-thinking people- mocked Reagan’s SDI, but I think that was only because Reagan proposed-the Democrat way.

  13. Maybe an American Space force would be focused on scenarios like this.

“A mysterious Russian satellite displaying “very abnormal behaviour” has raised alarm in the US, according to a State Department official…

Recent comments made by the commander of Russia’s Space Forces, said adopting “new prototypes of weapons” was a key objective for the force…

Space weapons may be designed to cause damage in more subtle ways than traditional weapons like guns, which could cause a lot of debris in orbit, explained Alexandra Stickings, a research analyst at the Royal United Services Institute.

“[Such weapons may include] lasers or microwave frequencies that could just stop [a satellite] working for a time, either disable it permanently without destroying it or disrupt it via jamming,” she said.
