Even candidates have bad Mondays. Especially in District 3.

I think there might have been a Democrat candidate in District 3 that had a bad case of the Mondays, as the SDGOP updated a postcard they’d sent against District 3 State Senate candidate Cory Heidelberger back in 2016:

Ouch.

  1. Cory Heidelberger has in the past blocked me from his blog because I stood up for Dr. Bosworth. So, I am speaking for myself. If one of our children ever disrespected their teacher, coach, sunday school teacher, or elder, I would support these people 100%. I would also ground them and make them apologize for being disrespectful for their behavior toward their elders. I am going to give Mr. Heidelberger benefit of the doubt. Politics aside, I think he his a brilliant teacher and researcher. I probably would they been a lot tougher.

    1. Tara:
2 of my 4 kids had Cory as a high school instructor. I am not saying he was not a good teacher, but he was no angle in the class room.

  2. Lol…..politics aside, he is a topnotch teacher. They need to get him back in the classroom. We need teachers that aren’t afraid to disipline.

  3. Tara, your comments are the reason you have never been elected to school board. No parent in their right mind would ever vote for a school board member that actively promotes endangering their children.

    1. It’s all about being a company man. Oh my, Heidelberger endangering children? Can you show me some proof?

      1. Tara you are defending Cory like you do Lora Hubbel. Could there be a Heidelberger/Hubbel or Hubbel/ Heidelberger gubernatorial 3rd party ticket going up against the Doctor of Destruction ticket for 2022? Be warned! The Doctor of Destruction will have a head start since he is already interviewing his campaign staff.

        1. You are turning this into a political circus. I am looking at it from an educational point of view. Do you research instead of reading political garbage.

          1. Circus? They could be the unconventional change agents for Pierre! They would turn it and South Dakota upside down or sideways.

    2. Quit exaggerating, I lost because I came out against the $15 and a half million dollar white elephant. School discipline was not an issue, but if it was, I would tend to support the teachers. I think like 6 or 8% showed up to vote.

        1. I am not asking you to believe me…..I am asking you to do your homework. I believe in a level playing field, whether you are coaching debate or coaching football, basketball or any other sport. Like you never had a coach yell at your kid. Whatever happened to respect for authority? Looks like this is starting to turn into a snowflake blog.

  4. Tara, he may be a great teacher or a horrid teacher. You’d only know which if you have evaluated him in the classroom over a period of time. Same with me.

Regarding his suspension, it may or not be indicative of whether he should forever be banned from the classroom. It requires information and knowledge and experience I think none of us have.

    1. Troy, if he was Republican, you would be idolizing him just like you did Janklow when he said he would knock a kid up against a locker. Quite playing politics.

  5. There’s countless options for Cory’s opposition to use during this campaign. May I suggest considering his youtube hits. Love the one where seniors run him out of an event because of how obnoxiously stupid he was behaving.

    1. Probably because you consort with many who are insaner than most. Perhaps you are as well.

  6. Troy, if he was Republican, you would be idolizing him just like you did Janklow when he said he would knock a kid up against a locker. Quite playing politics.

  7. I wouldn’t want Hamburglar anywhere near my kids. His worldview is so contrary to mine that I could not allow him to try to indoctrinate my kids. He is sick in his heart and sick in his soul.

    1. Agreed. It was really disgusting, while speaking on a bill in Pierre, he said men/fathers aren’t allowed to speak about women killing babies. What’s to stop him from pushing his agenda in the classroom?

    2. I would have loved to have my kids have him as their debate coach or english teacher.

      1. I guess I prefer someone with morals, but that’s just me. He is a pathetic little man who pushes a terrible world view, and I don’t think he should be in a position to influence any young minds.

  8. Cory Heidelberger is no doubt intelligent but has always had one unfortunate consistency that has been his undoing and that is his lack of people skills. He has demonstrated repeatedly he does not have the temperament to serve in any public office. Cory has been reckless with insinuating innocent people have been involved in scandals, supports an atmosphere of toxic commentary in his blog that attack people of faith especially Catholics and those who disagree, is a liability within his own political party, would be ineffective and a Pariah in Pierre. Once again it will not be only Republicans and Independents that will vote against him in District 3. Brown County Democrats please find someone else next time. There are much better potential candidates within that district that at the very least know how to get along with others.

    1. Most geniuses don’t have very good people skills. Like “A Beautiful Mind”. John Nash.

      1. Most. Any studies or actual proof to back that up? How many “geniuses” have you known personally? Does Hamburglar really fall into the category of “genius”?

        1. There are hundreds of studies and articles….Google

Do geniuses have awkward people skills

  9. Cory is undoubtedly intelligent (even when I disagree with his viewpoints, he’s still intelligent) and undoubtedly has issues with people skills (many would say I do, too (grin)).

I had an extended in-person conversation with him last summer, and he was personable, witty, curious, and well-spoken. I enjoyed our conversation and wished we had had more time. I regret that his online persona and public speaking is so snarky. Snark, regardless of who uses it, entertains oneself and a few friends while repelling both opponents and the otherwise neutral majority.

    1. Well put, Mr. Wyland.

I’ve been on both sides of such encounters referenced in the postcard. As a high school freshman, I spouted off to the superintendent, who was 6-foot-6. He shot out from behind his desk, grabbed me outside both arms, lifted me off the floor and pushed me up the wall. Before I could even breathe once he calmly asked in a remarkable Clint Eastwood impression: “Do you want to repeat what you just said?” We got along great after that.

When I taught English at a small school in eastern Oregon, two of my freshmen boys often went home at lunch, drank several adult beverages, and came back to class oiled. Whereupon they proceeded to disrupt class. What to do? I sent them down the hall to the superintendent’s office. He wasn’t mad at the boys, just at me, for not “controlling” my students. What a prince.

Anyway, I’m sympathetic to Mr. Heidelberger in this case. As for the postcard, it’s misleading and ultimately unnecessary. Attack Mr. H’s politics, fine. But don’t imply he hurts children.

      1. Doesn’t Cory advocate for abortion?

I’ve watched a video of an abortion procedure, it hurts children. In fact, it kills them. One video in particular shows a baby’s limbs being torn from it’s body and it’s head crushed so to fit through the vacuum used to suck it out of the womb. Now there’s a dead baby to be thrown out like trash.

You’re right, challenge Mr. H’s politics.

  10. Most geniuses don’t have very good people skills. Like “A Beautiful Mind”. John Nash.

  11. Tara,
I agree with your position regarding the need of teachers to have the right to discipline out of line students. Unfortunately, Cory supports the same social engineering agenda that uses the lesson of “Good touch, Bad touch”, which interferes with the parents right to discipline their own child.

For the sake of the children and an ordered society, teachers and parents need to work together, but with the mindset that parents have more authority than the teacher regarding their children. Cory’s mindset is that teachers are gods that need to rule over everyone including parents. Cory himself acts as if he thinks he is a god. He suffers from the same narcissistic social pathology that fuels tyrants. And that is how he runs his web site.

Second, if the school was out of line for suspending Cory, then why wasn’t there action by the teacher’s union?

  12. “He suffers from the same narcissistic social pathology that fuels tyrants. And that is how he runs his web site.”

Takes a narcissist to know a narcissist.

  13. As a Republican of over 40+ years, I am deeply saddened by the comments and the unfounded comments that have been made here. I have known Cory since his freshman year in high school. Here’s the rest of the story:
The reason the student and Cory got into it was because the student had been bullying a number of younger, weaker students. So he stopped it. Cory is probably one of the most intelligent educators I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

He treats people with respect and stands up for those that cannot stand up for themselves.

He researches before he talks. He produces facts and not opinions. He knows what he is talking about. where others just hide behind name calling and half truths. This is the really sad part of the New republican party.

I am deeply concerned with what the SD Republican party has turned to in the last several years. For a party that says we need less government interference in personal & business lives they don’t follow what they preach. You have Republicans bring in Right Wing nuts to scare and frighten people. You have republicans trying to pass bills about bathrooms and the schools have alreay handled it!!

You really need to get back to the Real Republican Party and not the farce we have now.

    1. Some of the comments hurt your feeeeelings… so what. Grow up.

What you should be concerned with, because I know you need someone to tell you what to think, is what’s happening with your real love – Democrats.

What does their platform support? Death and control. What do their representatives preach? Harassment and violence. Who do they care about? Certainly not white men; Democrats are racists.

Want to talk about how much Democrats care about women? Let’s kick off the dialogue with Juanita Broaddrick and Karen Monahan.

    2. PAH

Two of my kids witnessed this incident with Cory and the “bully”. They both have a completely different account of what you state. You may not know Cory as well as you think.

  14. I think PAH raises a point (there is another side to the story) I want to expand on:

Often, people rightly get dismissed from their job and rightly are suited to be hired by another employer for the same job.

When I was in H.S./Jr. High, I was more than once “touched” by a teacher. Sometimes I deserved it and other times the teacher I think over-reacted. Maybe when one of my teachers threw a kid into a car headlight and was bleeding was probably too much (I don’t even know if there was a reprimand in 1975). But, the idea teachers can’t grab jerk kids by the scruff of their neck is too snowflakey.

In my opinion, there are a myriad of reasons CAH should not be in the Senate but I think focusing on this is a distraction from the real reasons, reasons which also should preclude people who think like him from serving as well.

Frankly, I think his bigotry and open advocacy of an effective removal of most people of faith from the public square should be the main focus.

BTW, I do find it ironic he lost his job stopping a bully when he so tolerates the bullying of much of his loud, ultra progressive comrades.

    1. Troy, if Cory is truly anti-bully, then he needs to stop being one himself. It is not only his wrong policy positions, but the way he excludes, mocks and bullies those who oppose his viewpoints is what makes him a very bad choice for State Senate.

  15. Steve,

The list of reasons why Cory should not be in the Senate is long. So long, I’m kinda surprised we have to discuss them. Because of that, I don’t think what happened one day over 17 years ago should be the focus. Nor do I think this matter is justified because he and his blog’s modis operandi is personal assassination and innuendo. Pin on him his stances on the issues and let him be rejected for that as I’m not sure his positions represent more than 25% of the SD Democrats much less an entire district.
