Explain how that works…

So, if Rick Weiland is seeking to change laws so the majority of South Dakota’s political races becoming non partisan….

Why is he a delegate to the Democrat National Convention?

Perhaps, there’s an ulterior motive?

Perhaps.

  1. No one should vote for this. Instead we should drop party registration and just have open voter registration.

  2. The SD Dem dream: the nonpartisan primary passes. Mickelson, Jackley, Michels, Nelson and a couple more Republicans run, each garnering around 10-15% of the primary vote. SHS and Mayor Mike also run, but get about 20% each, allowing them to advance to the fall election and placing the GOP out of the governor’s mansion (in this scenario, I would predict SHS to be elected over Mayor Mike by a very large margin).

Improvements can be made to SD’s election process (such as making parties paying for closed primaries and uniform petition requirements for all candidates), but Weiland’s proposals go too far.
