Former State Dem candidate conceding Dems have no ideas, while he’s conducting ‘race check.’

When you’re in free fall towards rock bottom as a political party as South Dakota Democrats are, even the state’s most strident socialists are tossing out suggestions that Democrats should do what those Republican guys are doing as former Dem State Senate candidate Cory Heidelberger engages in this morning’s postings:

Of course, that was the prelude to white-bread Heidelberger scanning photos in the GOP newsletter and assigning whether people are white/non-white based on how brownish they look from photos in the same newsletter:

In his race check, Cory actually tries to assess whether people are actually “non-white?”

Yeah. It’s a safe bet that what he’s managed to do is probably the most racist thing we’re going to hear today. When you’re looking at someone’s skin color to figure out someone’s ethnic background from a long distance cell phone photo, the problem isn’t with them, it’s with you.

  1. The only prayer atheist Heidelberger has of influencing thought leaders in South Dakota is the one his pastor wife says to get him the hell out of the house and out of her hair.

  2. What a “fun” game, Cory. Count the minorities!

Let’s start with women. Hear me roar! Even w/ Uncle Sam and George Washington, 54% of the folks pictured appear female. (In fairness, this % is elevated by the fact that our lovely & photogenic governor, Kristi Noem, appears multiple times). Now, I think that’s great. Smash the glass ceiling! But is it acceptable judge gender by physical appearance? I mean, how do I know if all these gals identify as female? Should we just assume? What are their preferred pronouns? And what about the (apparent) guys? Dems lecture me endlessly that gender is “purely a social construct” and that there are hundreds of equally valid genders. So, I’m not sure how to properly classify everyone.

Gender is too tough. Let’s try race. Hmmm. Judging by skin color, as Cory does, I’d estimate 84 to 89% of the folks pictured = anglo. Less than 100 percent, certainly, but more than 80. Oh wait – tap the breaks! – I just remembered: Senator Liz Warren is Native American. I mean, she *appears* white as the driven snow. Heck, she’s paler than Tom Daschale, Tim Johnson, or Stephanie Herseth. But Warren announced to all the world that, genetically, she’s either 1/64th or 1/128 Native American, which makes it 100% okay to check the oppressed POC box when applying to teach at Harvard. Warren merely asks that we judge her by her ancestral DNA, not by the content of her character.

Given that Liz Warren is Native American, we can’t sort folks by skin tone. Only a few in the SDGOP gazette look as Anglo as Liz. Might some have “diverse” heritage to be revealed by ancestry.com?

Gosh! What a vague, confusing mess! Maybe the new york times is right and there’s no such thing as race. Maybe we should discard such pointless, superficial distinctions and consider people as INDIVIDUALS.

    Have a nice weekend!

  3. Corey is just a KKK member without the hood, a Nazi/Soviet without the mustache, and mysogonist not yet caught as a peeping Tom.

    1. I’m no fan of Corey, but this is so far over the top, Troy. He’s a political opponent, not a KKK member. Your characterization is symptomatic of the decline in political discourse that’s occurred in the several years. You should apologize — not for Corey, but for your own soul.

      1. That’s a fair point. It’s wrong to call someone a klansman, a Nazi, or a fascist – unless that person admits he is one and ESPECIALLY if that person denies being one. I don’t think Cory ever claimed to be a member. I suspect he’d deny it vociferously. Therefore, one shouldn’t go around saying he’s a member.

But I can see why someone might jump to that conclusion. The KKK was created to oppose Republican Party reconstruction efforts, so it’s tempting to assume any virulent hater of Republicans is, in his hidden heart, a KKK supporter.

Founded in 1865 by democrats, the KKK rapidly grew from a secret social fraternity to a paramilitary force bent on reversing the Radical Republicans’ Reconstruction Era-activities, especially policies that elevated the rights of African-Americans. The KKK used violence to resist Reconstruction. Democrat Nathan Bedford Forrest was the KKK’s first grand wizard. The Klan engaged in terrorist raids against African-Americans and white Republicans, employing intimidation, destruction of property, assault, and murder to achieve its aims and influence elections. In a few Southern states, Republicans organized militias to break up the Klan. In 1871, after passage of the Ku Klux Klan Act, Republican President Ulysses S. Grant placed 9 South Carolina counties under martial law & arrested thousands of klansmen. Grant imposed heavy penalties against terrorists, and he used military force to suppress the Ku Klux Klan. Yet, it survived. In the 20th century, 100,000 klansmen marched in DC to cheer the election of segregationist Democratic Woodrow Wilson.

Of course, I do NOT repeat NOT agree we should assume someone is a kkk member just because he’s a race-obsessed democrat who spews hate against Republicans. Let’s judge each person as an individual, on his or her own merits. Calling every dem a klansman is unjust & illegitimate. Likewise, we shouldn’t call anyone a Nazi unless s/he is a National Socialist. The Nazis murdered tens of millions of innocents. Screaming “Nazi” every time someone advocates building interstate highways, lowering taxes, or securing the border is inaccurate & immoral.

  4. Valid points made. I’d have written “tap the brakes,” but I suppose both homophones apply. In the autocorrect era, It’s hardly worth debating. Despite his striking obsession with skin color, Cory is correct when he says the SD-GOP is mostly (80%) caucasian (or anglo or whatever term)….just as is the population of the SD. So what? That’ll change as the years pass. Our country is racially & ethnically diverse. Unless the USA has the strength to cast aside superficial categorizations & work as one united team, we’ll become obsolete. But some don’t care if America loses, so long as their faction advances. For example, why isn’t the Democrat-led house of representatives voting to approve the USMCA trade deal? Shouldn’t that be the priority? Shouldn’t politics be subordinated to prosperity?

  5. Who would be the notable people in a current Democrat directory?

16 legislators, no statewide officials and I am sure they want to point out McGowan is a Democrat nowadays

  6. I’m sure the GOP would be glad to list McGowan and Heidelberger as Democrats in their political directory. They can also put Frank Kloucek and Stace Nelson in there too.
