Huether taking 2018 Gubernatorial campaign on the road.

Apparently Democratic Mayor Mike Huether is taking his 2018 Campaign for Governor out of Sioux Falls and dragging it to Brookings… So we need his ‘wisdom’ in person because a tributary of the Big Sioux runs through here?

Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether is taking his annual Big Sioux River Water Summit upstream.

For the past two years, Huether has brought together business and civic leaders, conservationists, environmentalists and members of the agriculture community to discuss improving the quality of water that flows in the Big Sioux. In hopes of diversifying the audience and broadening engagement, Huether plans to hold the third annual water summit in Brookings.

If we parse “In hopes of diversifying the audience and broadening engagement,” I’m guessing his true purpose for “diversification” is to campaign in front of more people outside of Sioux Falls on the City of Sioux Falls’ dime.

  1. Pat, I hope you don’t rail too hard against Huether. It seems that in the past, the harder you fought him, the greater success he had.

  2. Mentioning him will only embolden him. This post legitimizes him as a candidate and shows that he’s actively engaging people. We should not legitimize him as a candidate. Instead of posting on the positive stuff he’s doing, why not post on the negatives? He’s destroyed a park to put in an indoor pool. He allows elite private school college to ride city buses for free, but does not support public school kids to do the same. He wants to increase pool fees 400 percent – which would shut out some of the lower income individuals in Sioux Falls from accessing these publicly funded recreation sites.

Don’t underestimate Huether, but do us a favor and don’t promote the positive. Hit him on the negative.

  3. His town relies on big sioux water, which is quite polluted. It makes sense to visit with upstream neighbors.

    1. Well, is there anything in this deal he can name after himself? The tennis courts are nice but only 2%< play tennis. That's not enough exposure. How about naming the water that comes into your home after the Mayor and his family.

  4. I have to drive by one of those self-promoting billboards and see his ugly mug every day. It just reminds me of how much I can’t stand the guy.
